Join us this summer as we celebrate the lasting legacy of Northeast Airlines, New Englands original hometown airline. Fifty years ago, on Aug. 1, 1972, Northeast merged with Delta Airlines. Today, a half-century later, the spirit of the Yellowbirds endures in its people, their families, its many friends and fans, and all who played a part in its remarkable history.

LONDONDERRY, NH Its a holiday exhibit designed to make your imagination take flight. And its now been extended to Sunday, Jan. 30.

Its the Festival of Planes, a display of more than 1,500 vintage aviation toys and model aircraft at the Aviation Museum of New Hampshire.

Due to sustained popularity, the museum will keep the exhibit open all the way through the end of January.

The holiday season is past, but the Festival of Planes has proven popular enough for us to keep it in place until Sunday, Jan. 30, said Jeff Rapsis, the Aviation Museums executive director.

The Aviation Museum is open to the public on Fridays and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m.

The walk-through exhibit features aviation-themed toys, models, puzzles, and promotional items from the past 100 years. Themes range from the Wright Brothers to sci-fi favorites as Star Trek, Star Wars, and more.

Also on display are vintage toy aircraft piloted by celebrities including Bugs Bunny, Mickey Mouse, Elmo, and Barbie.

Youll find everyone from Charles Lindbergh to Buzz Lightyear in our display, Rapsis said.

New this season for kids is the Aviation Museums Find Santa interactive challenge.

Young visitors are tasked with navigating the maze-like toy exhibit to locate Santa, who was last seen flying the red biplane he favors when not piloting a reindeer-powered sleigh full of presents.

Facilities And Special Events

The museum can comfortably accommodate groups of up to 50 people for tours and programs. Dining facilities are not generally available for group visits, although catering may be arranged with prior planning. For information regarding accommodations and catering for special events .

LONDONDERRY Jacob C. Hutchinson. Alexander Burwell. Jimmy Stinson. Who are these men, and what do they have in common?

They were all Black men who served their country during World War II, and they were all stationed at the U.S. Armys Grenier Air Base in Manchester now known as Manchester-Boston Regional Airport.

For Black History Month, the Aviation Museum of New Hampshires Assistant Director Leah Dearborn will share details about these men in a program at 7 p.m. tonight at the museum, 27 Navigator Road.

LONDONDERRY The Aviation Museum of New Hampshire is looking for volunteers who love aviation and flying.

The museum, located at 27 Navigator Road, will host an open house for potential volunteers on Tuesday, Oct., 19, 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Those interested in learning more will hear all about how the museum carries out its mission to keep the states flying history alive.

The museum is based in a 1937 art deco-style passenger terminal near Manchester-Boston Regional Airport and is dedicated to preserving the states rich aviation past while also inspiring todays students to become aerospace pioneers of tomorrow.

Volunteers greet guests, lead tours, staff the gift shop and also get involved in the museums historical archive by evaluating donations, cataloging items and helping with research.

The Aviation Museum of New Hampshires first annual Run the Rail Trail 5-Miler is designed to get runners up close and personal with the takeoffs and landings at Manchester-Boston Regional Airport. The race will start at the Aviation Museum of N.H.s historic 1937 terminal building on Navigator Road, wind through lightly-trafficked roads, and finish along the recently opened 1.2-mile section of the Londonderry Rail Trail which passes through the remote Little Cohas Brook Reservoir area. All race proceeds will benefit the Aviation Museum of N.H., a non-profit with a mission to preserve aviation history, and also inspire todays youth to become tomorrows aerospace pioneers.

Race registration will open January 15, 2022 with an early bird price of $25. Children 12 and under and 62 and over $20. The regular registration period will commence April 1, 2022 thru Friday, April 29, 2022 12:00 P.M. when online registration will close You will be able to register on-site until 30 minutes before the beginning of the race . The first 100 registrants will also receive a race shirt. Please note: While we love all pets we do ask that you do not bring yours to the race. Also, please note that this is not a stroller friendly course as portions of the route travel over unpaved terrain.

Aviation Museum Of New Hampshire

The Aviation Museum of New Hampshire is a historical museum operated by the New Hampshire Aviation Historical Society, a non-profit group that preserves the history of flight in the U.S. state of New Hampshire. The organization’s goal is to preserve New Hampshire aviation history through a series of dynamic and hands-on exhibits and programs, as the museum’s website states. The museum operates in the 1937 Manchester Airport terminal building. The museum expanded in 2011.

The museum offers an accredited aviation education class for New Hampshire high school students. The course has two goals, to help prepare students for college, and to offer a career-based program to enlighten young people about the many and diverse career paths available in aviation today. The course offers six modules, and is based on the “Virtual Skies” NASA curriculum. This course is currently entirely funded by the museum through grants and donations.

The museum also offers a school outreach program geared towards NH and MA students in grades K-8. The presentation is one hour, and includes video, interactive demonstrations, and hands-on paper airplane building and flying.

Hours of operation are Friday and Saturday, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and Sundays 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Come For The Food Stay For The Warbirds

The Aviation Museum of New Hampshire has lined up a barbecue buffet, vintage aircraft, and other interactive experiences to celebrate Father’s Day weekend at the local airport.

Visitors at the June 18 event at Boire Field in Nashua, New Hampshire, are invited to walk the flight-line of vintage, homebuilt, and general aviation aircraft while mingling with local aviators and aviation enthusiasts. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Ramp tickets cost $10 for adults, with free admission for children 12 and under. An airport-style hangar barbecue buffet with all the fixings will be served for an additional cost.

This years event will feature a historic Consolidated PBY-5A Catalina flying boat, operated by Historic Air Tours. This vintage World War II-era aircraft is nicknamed the Flying Turtle, and is one of only a handful of Catalina amphibious aircraft still flying. This type of aircraft is credited with playing a major role in World War II.

The Flying Turtle will be on display from 10 a.m. to noon and then will offer 30-minute rides for $350 per person for 30-minute rides, the museum announced. Proceeds from the flights are used for aircraft fuel, restoration, and maintenance. Rides may be booked in advance online.

“This popular exhibit has been in storage during the recent Covid-19 pandemic, but it’s now time to get it out again to give visitors a chance to fly along with Rob Holland, Nashua’s hometown aviation hero,” said Jeff Rapsis, the museums executive director.

The Aviation Museum of New Hampshire, located in the original 1937 passenger terminal at Manchester/Boston Regional Airport, is a year-round organization with a two-fold mission. To preserve and celebrate the past achievements of New Hampshire’ aviation pioneers, we curate a growing collection of artifacts, create compelling exhibits, and stage innovative programs that bring history to life for the public. Also, to inspire the next generation of aviation innovators, we run an ambitious education outreach program to augment science, math, and engineering curriculum at public and private schools throughout the region, most notably a partnership with the Manchester School of Technology in which students and museum volunteers are working together to build an airplane: a two-seat all-metal Van’s RV-12iS light sport aircraft.
