Mitch Wine is the son of Harold Wine, Chairman ofWSP International Limited. Both were directors of Brushstrokes FineArt Inc.
Mitch did a remarkably good job of rebuilding the company. Under hisleadership Brushstrokes Fine Art Inc. signed a major contract with theIKEA retail chain, and they ran a “photo to painting” process throughthe Michael’s Arts and Crafts stores throughout North America, and viathe QVC TV channel.
Unfortunately they still did not have the Brushstrokes.com domain, andwe were getting traffic that should’ve been going to them.
Rather than approaching us openly and directly, our first contact camein 2004 from Grant Weltman of WSP International,“a marketing company in Birmingham Alabama”. He offered us $5000 forthe Brushstrokes.com domain, which of course we turned down. Then in2005 we were approached by Mitch Wine “of WSP International”, tryingagain to see if we were interested in selling. Through all of this there was no mention of theirconnection to Brushstrokes Fine Art Inc. Had Mitch Wine approached usopenly from the beginning and made a realistic offer a deal would’vebeen reached.
Thus began an annual attempt for Brushstrokes Fine Art Inc. to try toget the Brushstrokes.com domain. It always came around the time oftheir Christmas sales push, usually shortly after Christmas when theyreviewed their sales figures.

The Musée national Picasso-Paris has always had a museum gift shop offering books and items with a Picasso theme, but at the end of October it opened a second boutique. Facing the museum, it is a hybrid between a concept store and a gift shop. It spans three rooms and plans to regularly rotate its stock, but will always offer a mix of Picasso-related paraphernalia, products by young designers and exclusive art and design pieces for serious collectors. Its jewellery, made by Parisian designers, is especially popular. It has a large selection of homeware, such as hand-painted mugs and bowls from Portugal, tea towels made in France and pillows embroidered with Picassos art by an atelier in the south of France. The childrens section includes everything from English-language books on Picasso and Paris to handmade paper mobiles from Denmark. Because of some confusion over domain names, and trademarks that havebeen legally registered in different countries, we receive a lot ofwebsite traffic and communications from people that are not intended forus. We do our best to respond out of courtesy, but at the end of the daythis is not something that we make any money out of.
As you will read below, we have been open to resolving this confusionmany times, but the other parties involved have either handled thesituation badly, or simply not been serious about getting it resolved,ultimately contributing to their own failure.

Just shy of a decade old, the ICA, Bostons Diller Scofidio + Renfro-designed harbourside showcase, remains one of the citys most striking architectural features and has housed exhibitions by Anish Kapoor and Shepard Fairey. The eclectic store is every bit as thoughtfully curated as the museum. Cool curios for all ages and budgets abound, making it ideal whether youre shopping for gifts for a college hipster: cheeky mugs, dorm lights and a mason jar cocktail shaker, or an eccentric aunt: a steel dinner bell triangle, maybe? Jewellery, bags and covetable home decor are all available, while less conventional items on the artfully arrayed shelves range from a Shaka Khan Percussion Recorder, which makes rhythms using anything from coins to jelly beans, to Blockitecture, a versatile set of pine blocks that can be transformed into elaborate miniature urban landscapes. Museum Der Dinge Berlin
One of my favourite German phrases is das ding, which is a bit like the English word thingy used to describe objects where the noun is unknown. One of the best places to practise using this phrase is the Museum der Dinge in Kreuzberg, which displays a beautifully arranged collection of everyday objects that show the development of product culture over the past century. Unsurprisingly, for a museum focusing on products, the shop itself also features a carefully curated selection of books and unusual gifts by contemporary designers. These range from trendy household objects, such as ceramic mugs that look like crumpled paper cups to origami Christmas decorations, with lots of small, cheaper, gifts such as notepads, posters and pop-up postcards to choose from. Demonstrating how good design can make anything seem alluring and desirable, there is a vending machine just outside the entrance to the shop, which sells goody bags for 4 stuffed with a selection of random objects, elegantly packaged in a transparent bag with information stapled to it. The Blackburn Group Inc Invests In Atelier America Inc
To finance this dramatic change the Blackburn Group Inc. of London,Ontario, Canada invested heavily in Atelier America Inc.
They paid Iguana Studios, New York, one million dollars todevelop a website for Brushstrokes. However they had one significantproblem – they didn’t own the Brushstrokes.com domain.
The first that we knew about any of this was inNovember 1999 when we received an e-mail from William Goldsteinrepresenting a “Canadian art company” interested in buying the rightsto the domain.
Unfortunately they embarked on a lot of deception in the early stagesof negotiation, which of course eroded away any trust. After negotiatingwith them over a four month period we were not able to agree on arealistic price for the Brushstrokes.com domain. They were prepared togo no higher than $150,000 and we were holding out for somewhere between$200-250,000. Had the deal gone ahead Atelier America Inc. could haverecovered this in a matter of weeks once the new business was launched.
In order to move forward with their “Plan B”, Atelier America thenregistered nearly 30 domain names, many in the form ofBrushstrokesSomething.com. The two that most people will be familiarwith were BrushstrokesArt.com and BrushstrokesDirect.com.
In November 2000 Atelier America Inc. went live with theirmillion-dollar website under BrushstrokesArt.com. This was laterswitched to BrushstrokesDirect.com.

Cinephiles should visit one of Amsterdams newest major attractions in the Noord neighbourhood. The EYE Film Institutes curving, contemporary facade directly on the waterfront is hard to miss and the museum features a wide array of interactive exhibits. Despite being almost an hour from the city centre, design aficionados flock to this two-storey museum shop to stock up on cool, contemporary Danish design. A visit here can easily take just as long as the time spent among the works of art. You will, of course, find the usual catalogues and posters for current and past exhibitions, but about 40% of the items sold are clothes and accessories scarves, shoes and handbags are especially popular. All the designs are Danish, and some items are specially created for the Louisiana, and not available elsewhere.
