Best Tips For Your Visit
- Go in the off-season, during the week, early in the morning to avoid the crowds
- When you get on the ship, they will steer you towards the right. We recommend turning left and heading straight to the Ships Island/Bridge. Take the guided Bridge Tour as early as possible. On busy days, last admittance might be as early as 3:30 PM.
- Talk to the volunteers. Many of them are veterans and they have incredible stories to share about their time in service. This was by far my favorite about this museum. It was fascinating to hear their personal stories and anecdotes about life as a sailor.

How Long Does It Take To Do The Uss Midway Museum
The Midway Museum is a large museum and can take several hours to explore. There are several floors of exhibits, as well as a flight deck where you can see aircraft up close. Plan on spending at least a half day at the museum if you want to see everything.
The Midway aircraft carrier, which has served in San Diego since 1991, is now retired and has completed her final tour. The old ship is brought to life as a volunteer docent, providing live talks about what happens on board an aircraft carrier. It is possible to see the majority of the Zoo in one day. However, families traveling with young children can benefit from breaking a full-day visit into two half-day visits. Or, book a Cart Tour to see the animals at a faster pace before small children become tired.
