Florida Byways With Jules Andr Smith And The Bok Fellows

Telephone Museum Tour

On view from January 21 August 14, 2022

While exploring the byways surrounding Maitland, such as Eatonville and Sanford, Art Center founder Jules André Smith created watercolors and drawings of parts of Florida that were typically unseen by the casual tourist. His works offer a rare glimpse of everyday life in some of Central Floridas African American communities in the 1930s. Many of the artists that stayed at the Art Center in the 1930s and 40s also created works that document the surrounding area, and will be featured in this exhibition.
