Thanks to this new virtual exhibition, users will be able to see rarely seen Theresa Bernstein paintings, an early sculpture by Michael Heizer, delicate Yoruba textiles, and drawings, gouaches, and photographs by Amedeo Modigliani, Yasuo Kuniyoshi, and Manuel Alvarez Bravo that are light-sensitive and not always on view.

Embark on a journey through time and discover a culture that thrived in a mythic world. Explore the world premiere exhibition, Machu Picchu and the Golden Empires of Peru! Behold the marvels of engineering that sheltered a truly spiritual civilization and the ornate riches they once cherished.

This all-new, immersive museum experience will transport you to the jewel of the only cradle of civilization in the Southern Hemisphere, the Incan city of Machu Picchu. You will walk among a stunning selection of 192 artifacts from royal tombs that include spectacular objects that belonged to noble Andean lords. Here you will plunge into the Amazon rainforest and come face-to-face with one of the most impressive collections of gold treasures to ever tour the world.

This world premiere exhibition opens in a limited run at the Boca Raton Museum of Art on October 16, 2021 before embarking on a multi-country, world-wide tour.

The Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens is an absolute cultural gem in South Florida. Half park, half museum, it seems strange to find traditional Japanese gardens in the heart of north Boca Raton, only adding to the intrigue. In 1904, Japanese-born Jo Sakai founded a small agrarian community called “Yamato” with a few dozen Japanese immigrants. Growing up in Delray Beach, my elementary school field trips included educational jaunts to neighboring Boca Ratons roadside attractions, Ancient America, believed to have been built around a Native American village and burial mound, and Africa USA, promoted as the nations first cageless African wildlife habitat, both long since transformed into residential subdivisions. Then there was the lingering question surrounding the towns original name Boca de Ratones, whether it was associated with Spanish explorers, pirates in search of buried treasure, or the more likely, however mundane, an idiomatic translation describing the navigation of the inlets treacherous rocks.

Add to that legacy, Floridas legendary Ponce de Leon whose hunt for a Fountain of Youth has become the states calling card. Then, 20th-century visionary Addison Mizners bid to turn Boca Raton into Shangri-La. Alas, resort lifes ultimate cloud nine face went bust, never fully materializing the architects master plan.

Thus, where better for Machu Picchu and the Golden Empires of Peru multi-media exhibition to launch its world tour than the Boca Raton Museum of Art. Jody Harrison Grass, the museum boards chair, and Irvin Lippman, executive director, believe this extraordinary shows promise to captive, educate, and inspire viewers will place the Museum of Art at the forefront of South Floridas cultural landscape.
