Available exclusively at The National WWII Museum in New Orleans starting on Veterans Day 2022, Expressions of America will immerse audiences in written words, songs and personal reflections of the everyday men and women who served our country in every way imaginable during World War II. Generously presented by the Bob & Dolores Hope Foundation, Expressions of America will uniquely combine the latest outdoor projection technology with wartime letters and oral histories from the Museums collection to allow audiences to experience the stories of the WWII generation like never before.

Do You Have To Wear A Mask In The Wwii Museum
Children under the age of three must wear masks while in the museum. Visitors, staff, and volunteers who do not have a vaccination are not permitted to enter the premises. There will be either free paper masks or masks made by visitors. There will also be a selection of cloth masks for purchase in the Museum Store.
The World War Ii Museum: Keeping History Safe
Visitors to the World War II Museum are subject to metal detectors in order to avoid lifting items from Kenneth Rendells massive collection. Rendell, the museums owner, gives me a tour of D-Day plans, maps, communications, and photographs from the Allied invasion. Beyond the boundary, there are two films, one before entering the IMAX screen room and one after it.

Anne Frank Museum Amsterdam
Whenever visiting Amsterdam, I would definitely recommend going to the Anne Frank House. Walk through the house in Amsterdam where the Jewish-Dutch young girl wrote her famous diary while hiding for more than two years during WW2. The house gives an idea under which claustrophobic circumstances Jews lived during WW2. Before they got caught and deported to concentration camps like Auschwitz.
Tickets for the Anne Frank House normally sell out quickly after they get released about 3 months in advance. Due to this high demand, resulting into hours long waiting lines outside and crowds inside. Since COVID-19 it is mandatory to book a time slot online, which should solve the waiting lines and give people more space inside.

Topography Of Terror Berlin
When walking around a museum portraying the perpetrators of World War 2, it is quite a shock when you encounter a sign that mentions your family name as being one of them. Not me, but a person I visited Topography of Terror with, had this. Certainly not something to be proud of, but definitely a reality check. Many German families will have to live with the fact that a lot of their ancestors were those cruel men and women responsible for so much loss and sorrow. Never forget.
Like ad Yad Vashem, at Topography of Terror in Berlin the perpetrators of World War 2 are given a name and a face. I feel this is an essential part of what the society today owes to the victims of back then not stashing away those who caused so much misery. Although many fled to South America or went into hiding by taking another name at the end of World War 2, still denying in prosecution cases.
Topography of Terror is located on the site where the headquarters of the Secret State Police, SS and Security Services of the Nazi regime used to be. The permanent exhibition Topography of Terror opened in 2005 and is nowadays one of the most frequently visited places of remembrance in Berlin. It also shows the propaganda and terror in Berlin 1933-1945 and has special WW2 exhibitions, for example about the Neurenberg trials.

On June 6, 2019, Allied forces will commemorate the 75th anniversary of their D-Day invasion of Normandy. On June 6, 2000, the National World War II Museum opened its doors as the National D-Day Museum. The museums location in New Orleans is natural for a couple of reasons. Higgins boats played an important role in the operations success in Louisianas swamps and bayous. The National World War II Museum is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year. A master plan for the official WWII museum of the United States was released in 2005. Hurricane Katrina, a few months later, put a halt to that vision.
Why Was The National Wwii Museum Built In New Orleans
The National World War II Museum opened its doors on June 6, 2000, as a pioneer in revitalizing the Warehouse district of San Francisco, in honor of D-Day. There are two reasons why the museum is in New Orleans the first, it isnt obvious why it is in the city, and the second, it is natural for it to land there.
In 2000, the National WWII Museum was renamed the National D-Day Museum. The museum has been transformed into a showcase for all 1,300+ days of WWII, without opposition. Visitors begin their experience at the museums Victory Theater, where they can watch a 4-D multimedia show called Beyond All Boundaries. There are video screens, oral history stations, and animated maps everywhere you look. The National WWII Museums mission is to shine a light on World War II veterans and their families for generations to come. While the museums elaborate six-acre campus is still being built, vets will still be able to see it. This was our favorite spot in the Boeing Center, and we could see WWII aircraft from the ceiling.

Getting To The Museum
The museum is located at 945 Magazine Street, nine blocks from Canal St. and the French Quarter
One of the easiest ways to get here is by using the streetcar. The closest stops are served by line 12 on St Charles Street at Lee Circle.

Hellfire Pass Memorial Museum
My grandmother and her sister were born and raised in the Dutch Indies, now Indonesia. When the Japanese Empire occupied the Dutch East Indies during World War 2 they ended up in multiple terrible Japanese prison camps in Indonesia. My maternal uncle, serving in the KNIL, was captured and became a Prisoner of War in Thailand. When I visited Thailand earlier this year, I was determined to visit Kanchanaburi with its famous Bridge on the River Kwai, Death Railway Museum, Kanchanaburi War Cemetery and Hellfire Pass.
Especially the audio tour at the Hellfire Pass Memorial Museum made a great impression on me. Walking around there in the heat, surrounded by bamboo and mountains, listening to the stories of the actual survivors You get a glimpse of the horrible, extreme circumstances of these prisoners were in while digging out the rocks by hand, to build the 415km railway for the Japanese to get access to Myanmar . My maternal uncle survived but got killed a few years later on Bali. I would like to explore my familys history further in Indonesia.
The cruelties, the grief, the suffering, the losses and the courage. Very sad but very interesting to learn more about it.
Relation To New Orleans
The museum closed for three months after Hurricane Katrina ravaged New Orleans on August 29, 2005, re-opening on December 3 of that year. A museum banner promoted the re-opening by proclaiming “We Have Returned,” a phrase made famous by General Douglas MacArthur regarding his eventual return to the Philippines in 1944.
As of 2015, the museum is in the midst of a $400 million capital expansion campaign called The Road to Victory: A Vision for Future Generations. The expansion has resulted in significant increases in attendance. The Solomon Victory Theater, Stage Door Canteen, and American Sector restaurant opened in November 2009. The John E. Kushner Restoration Pavilion opened in June 2011. The US Freedom Pavilion: The Boeing Center opened to the public in 2013, followed by the opening of the first phase of the Campaigns of Courage pavilion in 2014. The second phase of the Campaigns of Courage Pavilion, Road to Tokyo, opened in 2015. The final project in the expansion will be the Liberation Pavilion. Initially, the intended date of completion of the expansion project was 2015, but has since been pushed back due to a series of delays causing it to be set to finish in 2022.
Visitation at the museum continues to grow, with 406,251 in 2010 having grown to nearly 700,000 in fiscal year 2016.
