Will I Get To See Van Goghs Sunflowers

Van Gogh painted lots of sunflowers , including five versions of his best-known sunflowers painting.

One of these versions is in the collection of the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. The other versions are at the National Gallery in London, Neue Pinakothek in Munich, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Seiji Togo Memorial Sompo Japan Nipponkoa Museum of Art in Tokyo.

Van Goghs paintings of Sunflowers are among his most famous. He did them in Arles, in the south of France, in 1888 and 1889. Vincent painted a total of five large canvases with sunflowers in a vase, with three shades of yellow and nothing else. In this way, he demonstrated that it was possible to create an image with numerous variations of a single colour, without any loss of eloquence. The sunflower paintings had a special significance for Van Gogh: they communicated gratitude, he wrote. He hung the first two in the room of his friend, the painter Paul Gauguin, who came to live with him for a while in the Yellow House. Gauguin was impressed by the sunflowers, which he thought were completely Vincent. Van Gogh had already painted a new version during his friends stay and Gauguin later asked for one as a gift, which Vincent was reluctant to give him. He later produced two loose copies, however, one of which is now in the Van Gogh Museum.

Vincent Van Goghand His Self

One of Van Goghs favourite subjects? Himself, of course. Most people will have come across his self-portraits before. They are all somehow different with a common thread. You should know, though, that he wasnt just some vain narcissist. He actually didnt have enough money to be able to pay anyone else to sit for him. There were plenty of other artists in the same boat. But Van Gogh made the best of the situation and used his self-portraits to perfect his craft and express his emotions.
