Are Guided Tours Worth It

Hiring a guide for your tour of the Louvre Museum offers many benefits.

Your tickets will be booked and ready, so all you need to do is show up at the entrance, aka no waiting in line for ages in the long queue to enter.

Since there are thousands of artworks displayed within the Louvre Museum, unless youre an art buff it would be difficult to know which collections and pieces are the most important ones and how best to concentrate your time.

With a tour guide, you have an expert answering all of your questions whereas if youre alone, you may find yourself not knowing anything about what you are looking at.

Best Time To Visit Louvre Museum

The best time in the year to visit the Louvre museum and avoid the biggest crowds is between the low seasons of November and March. Avoid Christmas and days around New Year’s. Better days of the week and times to visit the museum will be on Wednesday and Friday during low season and Monday and Thursdays during high season. The Louvre is also open till 9:45 during night openings, this also proves to be the best to visit to avoid crowds.

Option : Visit Louvre On Wednesday Or Friday Evening

Louvre Museum Skip

This is REALLY awesome information:

Not many tourists know this, but on Wednesdays and Fridays the Louvre Museum is open to the public until late . On all the other days, the museum closes at 6:00 P.M. and on Tuesdays it is closed for the entire day. So, if you didnt manage to get your Louvre Museum skip-the-line tickets, I advise you take advantage of this and visit after 6:00 P.M. if you want to have Mona Lisa to yourself!

PRO TIP: The entrance to Louvre Museum is free for everyone under 18 years old, so just make sure you have their passport/ID with you in case they ask for proof. Many people know that if you are a European citizen younger than 26 years old, you can also have access to the Louvre for free. But not many know that you can benefit from this even if you are not from Europe . Just go to the museum on Friday after 6 P.M. and you will get into the Louvre Museum for free! The entrance to the museum is also free for everyone on the first Sunday of each month and on Bastille Day , but beware, the lines are super long on this day!

Congratulations, you have just saved yourself 9 by following my advice!

Best Times To Visit The Louvre Museum In Paris

The Louvre Museum in Paris is open Wednesday to Monday from 9:00 to 18:00, closing at 21:45 on Wednesday and Friday.

Note: 2022 the Louvre closes at 18:00 every day, which is a pity for those who enjoyed the quieter evening hours.

The Louvre is closed on Tuesdays, 1 January, 1 May, and 25 December.

The best times to visit the Louvre are Wednesday evening or weekdays after 15:00. See the Mona Lisa last rooms start to close from half an hour before closing.

Note: the Wednesday and Friday evening opening hours remain suspended but might be reintroduced during 2022.

A good time to visit the Louvre is first thing in the morning on weekdays be in queue at 8:45 rather than 9:30 and see the Mona Lisa first.

The worst time to see the Louvre Museum is any day when admission is free, most weekends , school vacations, July and August.

No one can see all of the Louvre in a day even on the busiest day, once past the security line and the scrum at the Mona Lisa, many of the rooms further away from the most famous art will be surprisingly quiet and very easy to enjoy in peace.

Option : Have Lunch Or Dinner At One Of The 2 Eiffel Tower Restaurants

I am leaving this option as the last one because it is definitely pricier, but useful nonetheless!

There are 2 Eiffel Tower restaurants: and 58 Tour Eiffel and both of them have their own private elevator that can take you up to the platforms if you wish and if you have a reservation. The elevator at Jules Verne will take you to the second floor and the one at 58 Tour Eiffel will take you to the first floor.

As you might expect, both of these restaurants are very good, but kind of expensive . If you would have dined there anyway, you might as well benefit from their elevator too!

TIP: Make sure to arrive at least 30 minutes before your reservation because, even though there is a private entrance for the restaurants, you will still have to get through security control.

NOTE: The Jules Verne restaurant is closed until spring 2019 for revamp. Check their website to see when it will open.

Who Should Get The Museum Pass

I think the Museum Pass is perfect for people who are in Paris for the first time. They havent seen any of these museums anyway, if they know they can get in free and quickly, they might as well pop in and see how they like it.

People are always asking me where the gems are in Paris. Well, most of them are inside of museums that you may have never heard of. So, get the museum pass and explore freely!

The Museum Pass is also ideal for people who visit when the weather is bad. If its cold and rainy, trust me, youll want to duck into a museum! If its super hot as it can get in Paris in the summer, guess whos going to want to spend some time inside an air-conditioned museum?

Way N : Take A Guided Tour

This is one of the best ways of visiting the Louvre. There is no shortage of companies that offer guided tours of the Louvre. Guides are generally knowledgeable about the museum, they know where to go so you wont have to worry about looking at the map, and they will answer your questions and entertain you with quizzes.

Tours are easy to book you just have to pick a preferred date and time, and the company running the tour will arrange everything else with the museum. They will even print the tickets for you all you need to do is get the mobile voucher, and show up at the meeting point on time.

Tours can last anything between 1.5 hours and 3 hours, after which you are free to stay at the museum and explore it by yourself.

When it comes to tours of the Louvre, you have the option of joining a group tour , or a small or private group tour, which are obviously more expensive. There even are family-friendly tours perfect in case you are traveling with children.

Group tour prices are in the range of â¬50 to â¬70, depending on how long they last. Private tours are more expensive and in the range of â¬100, though some are priced per group.

Option : Use The Porte Des Lions Entrance

Louvre Museum Skip

As you can see on this map , there are 3 entrances to the museum. I advise you to not choose the most obvious one, as that is the one that other tourists will choose too.

If you want to skip the line at the Louvre, you should know that there is a secret entrance called Porte des Lions that not many people know about! I advise trying that gate first because it is the best and almost nobody knows about it! If this entrance is closed because of technical reasons, I suggest you head to the Carrousel de Louvre entrance .

The main one, called the Pyramid Entrance is always crowded, so you better avoid it at any cost.

You can find more information about the entrances and the working hours here.

Architecture Of The Louvre

“Although today its collection is the most interesting part of the museum, the building itself is an important exhibit, too,” said Gudek Snajdar. The building is primarily of Renaissance and French Classical style, she said. The first medieval elements from the old fortress can still be seen underground, beneath the pyramid, around the lobby area.

“Probably its most famous part is Claude Perrault’s ‘Colonnade’ on the eastern façade of Louvre,” said Gudek Snajdar. “It was built in the 17th century and it’s a wonderful example of a French Classicism. It’s composed of paired Corinthian columns with pavilions at the corners of the facade.” She said had influenced many buildings the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., and the Metropolitan Museum in New York being just some of them.

Catacombs Skip The Line Tickets & Tours

Tips for Visiting the Louvre in Paris

Some Paris guide books describe the Catacombs, former quarries repurposed as a burial ground for millions of Parisians, as a little-known but cool Paris attraction.

But nothing could be farther than the truth, as you can attest if you get stuck for 2-3 hours or more in the slow-moving regular ticket line. Although you used to shorten your wait by arriving before opening time or late in the day, that hack no long works because everybody tries it.

The Catacombs’ tunnels can hold only 200 visitors at one time, which adds to the line’s slowness. To avoid the long wait, you should always get your priority reserved date/time slot Catacombs tickets in advance.

Another option is to get tickets for a small-group guided tour of the Catacombs. These also give you the benefit getting information, insights, and stories from your expert guide.

Louvre Skip The Line Tickets Vs Guided Tours

Purchasing Skip The Lines Louvre Tickets online allows you to choose a specific date and time slot, this ensures a super quick entry to the museum in 30 minutes or less. Visitors with these skip-the-line Louvre tickets enter via a special green line at the Glass Pyramid. However, these tickets are time-stamped and valid only for that specific time slot, on the specific date, missing either means you will have to wait.

Alternatively and far better an option, is to opt for a Louvre Skip The Line Guided Tour with a small, private group. One, you won’t have to waste time waiting in line, just skip it and enter through Porte des Lions and two, you have a well-informed tour guide to show you around and explain the marvelous art showcased at the museum. In short, with a skip-the-line guided tour, you don’t just save time, you also have a pleasurable and informative experience.

Our Tips For The Louvre
