Utilities And Customers Obtaining Access To Dawn Storage
Dawn is important for natural gas buyers as each year the local utilities are increasingly accepting more gas transactions at Dawn as they reduce their reliance on gas supply from the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin and increase reliance on supply sourced at Dawn or upstream of Dawn.
As of November 2016, the Quebec gas utility, Gaz Metro, accepts gas only from Dawn as they have phased out TCPL completely. This is a huge change since previously, Gaz Metro only accepted base obligated deliveries from TCPL .
For Union Gas south, all new direct purchase customers as of January 1, 2017 will be allocated 100% Dawn as the obligated delivery point. As part of a continuing shift to move obligated deliveries from Parkway to Dawn, Union Gas is expected to offer the next shift sometime in 2017.
Union Gas north is planning to begin shifting some of the obligated delivery points from Empress to Dawn in January 2017 and will reallocate delivery points every November 1 to reflect Union Gas upstream transportation portfolio.
Enbridge implemented two phases for different customers. Phase 1 began in November 2015 allowing customers to shift their obligated deliveries to Dawn on a limited basis. Phase 2 begins in November 2017 and will allow more customers to select Dawn as a delivery point.
Collection Storage And Organization

The practice of archaeology generates a huge number of artifacts, big and small, rare and commonplace. All of these artifacts need to be stored and cared for so they are available to future generations. But when a single excavation can yield hundreds, or even thousands of artifacts, organization becomes a challenge.
Many of the archaeological collections at the Sam Nobel Museum of Natural History are from several decades ago, when the standards for curation were very different. The earliest archaeological collections were acquired through Works Progress Administration projects in the 1930s-40s. The WPA was a national program begun during the Great Depression to provide work for the many unemployed Americans. Public works projects were begun all over the country, and Oklahoma was one of the first states to use the WPA to begin archaeological excavations. These projects generated a lot of information about Oklahomas past, but they also generated a huge number of artifacts. After being boxed up, many of these collections have remained just as they were in the 1930s. Many of them even include the original field notes, now old enough to warrant their own place in a museum.

The Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History in Norman opens Drawing the Motmot: an Artists View of Tropical Nature and Darwin at the Museum Oct. 10. Overall Importance Of Dawn Storage To North America
The Dawn Hub is an underground natural gas storage and market centre near Sarnia, Ontario operated by Union Gas since the late 1950s. Ten major pipelines currently connect to the Dawn Hub making it one of the most liquid natural gas trading points in North America with trading activity increasing every year. Dawn storage is the largest underground natural gas storage facility in Canada.
Shale gas has influenced the price of natural gas everywhere, including Ontario, however, currently shale gas production from the Northeast US has limited connecting pipeline to Dawn or Ontario. The demand for gas in Ontario has decreased because supply from US shale has offset the supply from Ontario. Traditionally gas flowed from Alberta, through Ontario and onto the US northeast. This is changing as new pipelines become operational. More pipelines are connecting US shale gas to Ontario and expanding the activity at Dawn.
All North American energy marketers are active at Dawn and over 100 companies actively trade at Dawn.

Earlier posts in this series in celebration of Daniel C. Swans retirement from the Sam Noble Museum, and from the University of Oklahoma where it is based, have emphasized mentoring. To impact a more junior colleague positively and to help launch them, or to advance them, in their career is particularly noble work. Since we met one another in the spring of 1994, Dan has been an extraordinary mentor to me and an energetic advocate for me and my work. My career has followed the particularand wonderfulpathways that it has because of Dans deep influence on me and on my lifecourse. This observation could easily be the stepping off point for an essay on Dans outsized role as a mentor and supporter to me and to many others. I would love to write that essay.

Exploring The Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum Of Natural History In Norman
The Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History located at the University of Oklahoma campus in Norman, OK is a great sensory experience for kids and parents. Heres a guide for getting the most out of this wonderful museum.
Permanent Exhibits
The Museum is a research division of the University of Oklahoma, housing over seven million objects and specimens in 12 collections. Permanent exhibits include specimens of archaeology, ethnology and Native American Languages.
The Hall of Ancient Life features fossils and articulated skeletons of the worlds largest Apatosaurus and Saurophaganax maximus, a fearsome predator unique to Oklahoma. The Hall of the People of Oklahoma traces the 30,000-year history of the Native people of Oklahoma. Exhibits begin with the earliest archaeological evidence and travel through time to an examination of what it means to be Native American in Oklahoma today. The entry walls are covered in handprints made by representatives from 26 of Oklahomas 39 federally recognized tribes.

Natural Gas Storage How It Works
Underground storage facilities are depleted reservoirs in oil and/or natural gas fields, aquifers, and salt cavern formations. Dawn storage is made up of 23 individual reservoirs about 500 m underground. All reservoirs are connected by a gathering system and then connected to the utility pipeline system. Nine large compressors move natural gas to and from the reservoirs. Storage injection season typically begins April 1st and ends October 31st . On November 1st withdrawal season begins thereby allowing a constant flow of natural gas during the high demand heating season and low demand summer season.

What made the experience stand out?
Ive been to the Sam Noble Museum before but its different every time I go because I know more from what Ive read or seen on PBS. What made it stand out this time was seeing the new exhibit, The Mystery of the Mayan Medallion. I love going to this museum because it has my name in the title Noble would be a cool last name.
What was the best part?
The adventure part of the tour reminded me of Indiana Jones but set in Central America. My Dad is from there. I loved the explanations about poisonous animals that live in the jungle and getting to smell familiar scents like cacao and achiote that remind me of my grandparents kitchen.
What was the worst part?
It always takes our family a long time to get through a museum because my brother, Isaac, is 4 and he wants to stop and see every possible thing. I want to get to the point and just see the main things. He cant read yet so I have to read him all the signs. Sometimes, I just make up what they say so we can get done faster.

Transitioning And Keeping Track
My summer internship and all I had learned there at the NGMM fueled my excitement about museums, and I hoped to continue learning about them when I returned home for my junior year of college here at the University of Oklahoma. With this in mind, I applied to the NAGPRA internship program in the archaeology department at the Sam Noble Museum. As an anthropology major, I have learned so much about the history of the field of archaeology. The study of archaeology has contributed much to our understanding of the past, but also has a history of obtaining artifacts illegally. Since I first learned about the NAGPRA program and how it provides Native American tribes with a legal means to have their ancestors returned, I knew I wanted to one day work to help right, or at least reverse, these wrongdoing of the past. We have a responsibility as a museum to preserve history, but not at the expense of the tribes. Having this opportunity is extremely humbling, and Im grateful to have the chance to combine a passion for museums with a desire to help. Not only this, but this NAGPRA internship is very different than what I became used to over the summer on Capitol Hill.

Sam Noble Museum Enters Its Third Decade As Educator And Guardian Of Oklahoma’s Heritage
For two decades, priceless treasures from Oklahomas past have been protected inside the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History . Thats long enough for a generation to grow up thinking that its favorite fossils, dioramas and artifacts have always been safeguarded inside the nearly 200,000 square-foot, climate-controlled sanctuary on Timberdell and Chautauqua Ave.
And while 20 years is a milestone worth celebrating, it is a nanosecond in the lifespan of not only the museums inhabitants, but also the small army of dedicated staff, volunteers and local citizens who spent decades advocating for a building worthy of these priceless pieces of history.

The building, which fittingly resembles a giant-sized treasure chest, houses a dozen collections and five exhibit halls, as well as laboratories, classrooms, libraries, storage areas and administrative offices. The 10 million artifacts inside help tell the story of Oklahomas natural history. Gallery spaces are filled with towering dinosaur skeletons and other objects of the ancient past, the animals and ecosystems that represent the wonder of nature, and Native American and world cultures.
While the ultimate goal of safekeeping and showcasing these treasures was achieved when the doors opened in spring 2000, the museum continues to grow, evolve and educate.

When my friends Michael Jordan and Jason Jackson asked me to write this piece in honor of Dan Swan, I was surprised honored and pleased, but still surprised. Dan did not serve on my dissertation committee. We have never been work colleagues. I am not a museum anthropologist, and we have never co-authored a publication. In anthropological terms, we did not have formally-defined roles with assigned duties and reciprocal obligations. Yet it is precisely this list of nots of all the ways Dan and I are not connected that is so important here.
