Petersen Automotive Museum Offers Free Admission Before Closing For Over A Year

WHAT IS THE FUTURE OF CAR COLLECTING? | CAR WEEK DAY 2

Los Angeles’s Petersen Automotive Museum will be closing its doors Sunday for a renovation project that will extend almost through the end of next year, the museum’s chief marketing officer Adam Langsbard told KPCC.

The museum will be offering free admission Sunday and will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Langsbard said.

There will also be one last Breakfast Club Cruise-In from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., where people can put their automobiles on display before the museum closes for renovations.

We normally hold cruise-ins and get anywhere from 75 to 150 cars, Langsbard said. Literally anything could show up.

The renovation project is being funded by an ongoing capital campaign. Its goal is $125 million, $75 million of which has already be raised, according to the museum’s website.

We sought out the finest minds in museums, entertainment, education, architecture and design to create an immersive experience, Petersen board chairman Peter Mullin said in a press release on the museums website.

The renovation comes a year after plans for a dramatic new exterior to the museum were unveiled.

The structure will not be torn down, but the exterior will be wrapped with a stainless steel body, which Langsbard said is probably some of the most striking architecture to hit the city since the Disney Concert Hall.

If all goes to plan, the museum is set to reopen in December 2015, Langsbard said.

Pel Verification: Can An Employer Ask For Proof

The employer cannot ask for medical documentation, such as a note from a physician, registered nurse or psychologist. It is permissible to request documentation from other types of health practitioners, such as a dentist, physiotherapist, Chinese medicine practitioner, or naturopath. If an employee has used more than ten PEL days, the employer can ask for medical documentation from a physician, registered nurse, or psychologist.

The employer can technically ask for proof, however, they must consider how they ask or what they ask for. The employer can reasonably ask the employee for the reason for the PEL and request certain proof. What is determined as reasonable would be contingent on each individual circumstance. For example, an employer may deem it is reasonable to request an obituary or death certificate for a PEL related to a death.

Important Notes to Consider

Employers should ask if it is really necessary to ask for certain verification in order to substantiate the information. Consider trends of punctuality, absenteeism and behaviour, the plausibility of the claims, and the ease of access to evidence .

Employers must be very cognizant of the employees right to privacy. There is nothing in the act that requires the employee to tell them the reason for their PEL.

Andy Warhol: Cars Works From The Mercedes

Commissioned on the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of the motor car, Andy Warhols uncompleted 1986/87 Cars series was to include 80 pictures intended to record the history of the motor car from the Daimler Motor Coach and Benz Patent Motor Car, both dating from 1886, to the present day.

The last series of pictures to be undertaken in his lifetime, only 36 silk-screen paintings and 13 drawings representing eight different Mercedes-Benz models were completed. Much like his previous work involving the iconography of branded consumer products and celebrities, Warhol managed to bring together the image of the automobile, and more specifically the Mercedes-Benz brand, within the context of high art.

Greater Right Or Benefit

Petersen Automotive Museum

If an employment agreement provides a greater right or benefit, in other words, it goes above and beyond the minimum standards outlined in the Employment Standards Act , then the provisions of the agreement prevail over the Employment Standards Act .

If an employee takes a PEL for the same reason that is covered by one of the provided benefits of the employment agreement, the employer can apply this personal leave for both benefits. For example, if an employee takes a PEL because of an illness and the employment agreement does provide the benefit of Sick Leave, the employer can draw from both the PEL, under the ESA, and the Sick Leave under the employment agreement.

Those who are looking to visit will be required to have a reservation in advance as the museum can only operate at 25% capacity. Admission is free for first responders and health care workers through the year.

The museum will also have several safety protocols in place, including a face mask requirement and sanitation stations throughout the venue. Guests will also be offered a stylus, which can be used on things like elevator buttons, to enhance a touchless experience.

Operations manager Lincoln Ramirez told Eyewitness News the museum is excited to be able to open its doors and show off four new exhibits.

The museum actually reopened last June, but that didn’t last long due to changing state and local COVID-19 restrictions. It had to close 14 days after its brief reopening, but Executive Director Terry Karges is confident that this time they’ll be able to stay open.

Over the past year, the public has still been able to experience the museum in a virtual capacity, which officials say has kept the museum going all this time. Through YouTube, virtual visitors could get a peek at things like the Petersen’s vault.
