New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science

The City of Albuquerques Old Town Holiday Stroll is returning on Dec. 2 after a two-year hiatus, and the New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science is thrilled to be part of the festivities!

Stop by the New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science that evening between 5:00 and 9:00 p.m. for treats, live entertainment, fractals, and even a visit from Santa!

Check out popular exhibitions like Roving With Perseverance and Chocolate: The Exhibition after hours. Additionally, the Museums unique First Friday Fractals shows will be taking place in the Planetarium hourly from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. And dont miss the chance to visit and take photos with Santa Claus upstairs from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Museums Sandia Room.

The Museums gift shop, NatureWorks, will be open as well to help you shop for the science-lovers on your gift list this year. NatureWorks will have biscochitos available, and snack bags on sale for $5. Admission to the Museum that evening will be by donation.

On September 25, the museum hosted a virtual summit on the future of natural history institutions as part of the museum’s strategic planning process. Administrators from prominent institutions around the country made comments about their facilitys response to the pandemic and how that will influence programming from now on. Exploring The Art And Science Of Sound

Giving a whole new meaning to the phrase the call of the wild, youll be jamming to the art and science of sound at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science . Wild Music: Sounds & Songs of Life is a highly interactive new exhibition exploring evidence for the biological origins of music. This exhibition runs June 24 through January 7, 2018.

People everywhere sing and dance, but this exhibition reveals the musical aspects of the earth and other species: whales compose, bullfrogs chorus, and songbirds greet the dawn. Through environmental soundscapes, exhibits, and listening experiences, Wild Music visitors explore natures score and expand their understanding of what makes music.

From trumpeting swans to singing whales, nature is filled with music, says museum director Margie Marino. Wild Music allows visitors of all ages and abilities to hum, drum, and play through a magical, musical world.

The New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science is open every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. $8 Adults , $7 Seniors , $5 Children . Free Admission to NM residents with ID on the first Sunday of the month and every Wednesday to NM Seniors with ID.

The New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science is a natural history and science museum in Albuquerque, New Mexico near Old Town Albuquerque. The Museum was founded in 1986. It operates as a public revenue facility of the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs.

In addition, mission personnel will hold a short presentation in the planetarium each day at 1 p.m.

We do a lot of space sciences and participate in the ongoing missions, Crumpler said about the museum. Were trying to reach the maximum number of sciences and introduce the public and kids to more things than just ancient life and fossils.

Saturdays event at the museum gets a little sweeter as well. Visitors can partake of chocolate samples as part of Sweet Saturdays, an installment of the current Chocolate: The Exhibition traveling exhibit that has been housed at the museum since the summer.

Roving with Perseverance will be on display at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science through June 5, 2023.

Just minutes away from Albuquerques lively Old Town Plaza, the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science takes you on a journey through New Mexicos past, from the formation of the universe to the present.
