On the shores of the Sea of Galilee is the Chapel of the Primacy of St. Peter, where three times Peter professed his devotion to the risen Christ From there, travel to Capernaum, where Jesus called Peter, Andrew, James, John and later Matthew to be disciples.

While docked in Ashdod, explore Bethlehem, where you will discover the cave revered as the place where Jesus was born . The Church of the Nativity constructed over the site is the oldest functioning church. Journey to Jerusalem to see Caiphas House, where Jesus was tried before the Sanhedrin. Stand upon the Mount of Olives and view the city as Jesus did. See the ancient olive trees of the Garden of Gethsemane. Even before the grand opening, CBN News got an early sneak peek of the 430,000 square foot, eight-story building. Once past the bronze Gutenberg Gates and security, the very first thing visitors will see is a 140-foot long digital LED display, which boasts a series of breathtaking colorful scenes in a pictorial canopy. It’s the first glimpse at the museum’s technological edge, which goes way beyond the latest gadgets and gizmos.
Each floor of the museum is a different experience, engaging the senses on many different levels. You can even touch a one-ton stone from Jerusalem’s Western Wall of the Temple, and see ancient relics which date back 1700 years before the birth of Christ.

Overview Or Immersive Experience
The MOTB curators designed this museum to be experienced as both an overview of the history and to show the continuing impact of the Bible on the world. So, you can move through each floor taking in the highlights: priceless artifacts, engaging with period actors, experiencing how the Bible has been delivered from ancient days to todays technological advances, checking out the latest temporary exhibit, and grabbing a bite of Israeli fare.
According to Cirmo, a visitor can make a shallow exploration of MOTB because theres something for everybody. Theres so much to see and do it can be overwhelming. However, if you want a more immersive experience, she suggests you make your first visit an overview, and then, come back to walk deeply into one or two areas. For example, one visit you might focus on art, another on living art in the theater, or reading every descriptive line of the exhibits. Eventually, youll see it allexcept for the traveling exhibitions, which are constantly rolling in and out of the MOTB.
Experiencing MOTB can be just like reading the Bible: you might hop around from scripture to scripture based on one question, or read it beginning to end, or immerse yourself in one book .

Were Open To Everyone
Purpose Driven mornings begin with a daily devotion, prayer or, if Webster and her nieces are willing, song. Meals are preceded by prayer. The movies and music on the bus are religious. Alcohol is forbidden, as it is at the Museum of the Bible .
The Christmas tour members ranged in age from 50 to 85, many of them couples or family members. Most were retired, many of them former teachers. Six hailed from California, one from Canada, two from Georgia, two from Alabama and the rest from Mississippi Almost all had Southern roots.
They were huggers, and prone to gentle humor. They readily shared their stories, many of horrible loss. Barber lost his adult son last year to a drug-related suicide. They were curious, and asked plenty of questions about family members and backgrounds. What church do you belong to? they queried a demurring reporter. They did not discuss politics, at least not with strangers.
Religion was another matter. This is a Christian tour group, said Nell Green, 76, a retired teacher from Water Valley, Miss., who was on her seventh trip with Purpose Driven. We dont say whether were Baptist or Methodist. Several of the tourists defined themselves as Christian first, followed by American, then Southern.
Theyre conservative, Barber explained. We believe in small government, and no interference in our private life from the government. Many, including Barber, were creationists.

Day 11october 5 Ephesus
Ephesus is one of the Seven Churches of Revelation and was once a bustling port town with wide, colonnade-bordered streets and a population of 250,000. Spectacular excavations have revealed much of the glory of ancient Ephesus, including the huge agora and library, but much has been lost. The ancient world once declared the Temple of Artemis to be one of the Seven Wonders of the World but today, only a single column remains to mark its site. View the terrace houses, also known as the houses of the rich, which give a true impression of the ancient lifestyle. Explore the Museum of Ephesus for an up-close look at ancient artifacts. You will have time to explore on your own and recreate some of the footsteps of Paul.
Dead Sea Scrolls Forgeries
Founder Steve Green donated Dead Sea Scrolls parchment fragments to the museum collection for its opening. When the museum catalog was released to the public, however, several outside experts expressed concern that the museum had not adequately accounted for the fragments’ provenance. Arstein Justnes, a professor of biblical studies at the University of Agder in Norway, declared they were outright forgeries. The museum subsequently enlisted the German Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing to analyze the scrolls. The museum kept the fragments prominently on display for its official opening, while testing was still incomplete. The text of display stated that “scholars continue to debate the authenticity of this fragment”. In 2018 the museum announced that expert examination had led it to conclude that five of the sixteen fragments of the Dead Sea Scrolls were forgeries and that the museum had removed them from display. According to the German researchers, those five showed “characteristics inconsistent with ancient origin”. In March 2020, the museum confirmed all sixteen fragments were forgeries.

Day 12october 6 Athens & Corinth
Disembark the Celebrity Apex and discover the rich architectural splendor of the ancient city of Athens as you explore the world-renowned Acropolis, the Propylaea, the Parthenon, and the Erectheum. Stand on Mars Hill as the Apostle Paul did when he proclaimed, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom, therefore, ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you. Also, view the House of Parliament, the Presidential Palace, and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. This afternoon, tour the city of Corinth, where the Apostle Paul met fellow tentmakers Aquila and Priscilla and received a vision from the Lord saying, I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to hurt thee: for I have much people in this city. As Paul spoke, Crispus and many others believed and were baptized, establishing the church at Corinth to whom Paul later wrote his two epistles. Is The Museum Of The Bible That Tourist
Morning began with a daily devotion on the tour bus bound from Richmond to the nations capital. Katherine Webster, 85, a retired schoolteacher from Jackson, Miss., and her three adoring nieces set their pitches and broke into song, blending their voices on O Come, All Ye Faithful and Take the Name of Jesus with You in splendid four-part harmony.
They sound like angels, tour organizer Wayne Barber said like the Lennon Sisters, referring to the quartet from the venerable Lawrence Welk TV program.
A tree surgeon by trade stumps, a specialty Barber founded Purpose Driven Tours in 2007.
His purpose is a firm belief in the biblical account of creation and the worldwide flood and, according to the company brochure, exploring the Christian heritage of the U.S.
Its sort of like a big Sunday school on a bus, said Barber, 70, who still climbs trees and grinds stumps when hes not traveling on the bus.
His nine-day December tour began in a Flowood, Miss., Holiday Inn Express parking lot and would cover seven states and 3,000 miles. It included seven Christmas spectaculars , and visits to the Billy Graham Library in Charlotte and the late Jerry Falwells Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, Va.
But the 28 travelers on this trip all white, many of them conservative Christian evangelicals who defined themselves by their faith were mostly looking forward to their upcoming visit to the new $500 million Museum of the Bible in Washington.

The 5th floor features The People of the Land of Israel a long-term exhibit from the Israel Antiquities Authority, as well as a rotating slate of special exhibits.

Hobby Lobby Smuggling Scandal
Shipments of artifacts imported by Hobby Lobby in 2010 and 2011 were seized by US customs agents. The artifacts, largely clay bullae and cuneiform tablets from ancient Iraq, had in some cases been declared as “tile samples”. Federal investigation culminated in a 2017 civil forfeiture action United States of America v. Approximately Four Hundred Fifty Ancient Cuneiform Tablets and Approximately Three Thousand Ancient Clay Bullae, after which Hobby Lobby agreed to forfeit and return more than 5500 artifacts, and to pay of a fine of $3 million. The artifacts in question had likely been looted from Iraq. Hobby Lobby was found to have used couriers that had willfully used methods to conceal the provenance of the allegedly stolen items. The museum released a statement that these artifacts were never owned by the Museum of the Bible and were never intended to be part of their collection. In 2018, the items were returned to Iraq, and the company paid a $3 million fine.
Scott Thumma, a dean and professor of sociology of religion at Hartford Seminary, defended Hobby Lobby during the smuggling controversy. Thuma stated: “Many of the collections of our great national museums and universities are full of the very objects that Hobby Lobby is being fined for smuggling and are seldom required to return or pay compensation.”
