Museum of Latin American Art of Buenos Aires, Spanish Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires , museum in Buenos Aires dedicated to Latin American art from the early 20th century through the present day.
The Museum of Latin American Art of Buenos Aires was established as a progressive institution and cultural centre that would promote the artistic and cultural achievements of contemporary Latin Americans. Its angular, avant-garde structure was designed by three young Argentine architectsGastón Atelman, Martín Fourcade, and Alfredo Tapiaand was opened in 2001. MALBA houses a large collection of 20th-century Latin American art, much of which was donated by the museums founder, the Argentine businessman Eduardo F. Costantini. The Costantini collection features masterpieces by Latin Americas most celebrated artists. Highlights include works by Diego Rivera, Tarsila do Amaral, Wifredo Lam, and Frida Kahlo. Other significant artists represented include Antonio Berni, Lilliana Porter, Xul Solar, and Jorge de la Vega.
The Brillembourg Capriles Collection Of Latin American Art
Assembled by Venezuelan philanthropist Tanya Capriles de Brillembourg, this extraordinary collection on long-term loan to the MFAH features more than 100 works by Latin American masters of the first half of the 20th century. Concentrations of master works by Emilio Pettoruti, Diego Rivera, David Alfaro Siqueiros, Joaquín Torres-García, Armando Reverón, Wifredo Lam, and Matta showcase avant-garde achievements across the Spanish-speaking region. The collection also includes emblematic paintings by Fernando Botero, Rufino Tamayo, Armando Morales, and Antonio Segui produced at the height of their respective careers. In the last decade the collection has grown to include pioneering constructivist works by Loló de Soldevilla, Sandú Darié, Carlos Rojas, as well as contemporary Kinetic installations by Elias Crespin, many of which were featured in the 2013 MFAH exhibition Intersecting Modernities: The Brillembourg Capriles Collection.

Modern And Contemporary Art
The Modern Art collection is displayed in the Ahmanson Building, which was renovated in 2008 to have a new entrance featuring a large staircase, conceived as a gathering place similar to Rome’s Spanish Steps. Filling the atrium at the base of the staircase is Tony Smith’s massive sculpture Smoke . The plaza level galleries also house African art and a gallery highlighting the Robert Gore Rifkind Center for German Expressionist Studies.
The modern collection on the plaza level displays works from 1900 to the 1970s, largely populated by the . In December 2007, Janice and Henri Lazarof gave LACMA 130 mostly modernist works estimated to be worth more than $100 million. The collection includes 20 works by Picasso, watercolors and paintings by Paul Klee and Wassily Kandinsky and a considerable number of sculptures by Alberto Giacometti, Constantin BrâncuÈi, Henry Moore, Willem de Kooning, Joan Miró, Louise Nevelson, Archipenko, and Arp.

Interview With Eduardo Costantini
MALBA was founded in 2001 with the donation of more than 200 works of Eduardo F. Costantini’s collection. It is a museum devoted to Art from Latin America, currently holding a prestigious collection of more than 600 artworks, and offering an active program of exhibitions, workshops, film, literature, and publications.
In the interview with Gerhard Haupt & Pat Binder, Eduardo Costantini talks about his collecting passion, his focus on Latin America, and plans of establishing a second MALBA in a precarious neighborhood.

Luis Garca Hevia Uncertain
While colonial portraits aimed to show the status of the sitter rather than a physical likeness, a focus on realism and individual identity emerged in the early 1800s with the independence movement in Latin America. The Blackburn Group Inc Invests In Atelier America Inc
To finance this dramatic change the Blackburn Group Inc. of London,Ontario, Canada invested heavily in Atelier America Inc.
They paid Iguana Studios, New York, one million dollars todevelop a website for Brushstrokes. However they had one significantproblem – they didn’t own the Brushstrokes.com domain.
The first that we knew about any of this was inNovember 1999 when we received an e-mail from William Goldsteinrepresenting a “Canadian art company” interested in buying the rightsto the domain.
Unfortunately they embarked on a lot of deception in the early stagesof negotiation, which of course eroded away any trust. After negotiatingwith them over a four month period we were not able to agree on arealistic price for the Brushstrokes.com domain. They were prepared togo no higher than $150,000 and we were holding out for somewhere between$200-250,000. Had the deal gone ahead Atelier America Inc. could haverecovered this in a matter of weeks once the new business was launched.
In order to move forward with their “Plan B”, Atelier America thenregistered nearly 30 domain names, many in the form ofBrushstrokesSomething.com. The two that most people will be familiarwith were BrushstrokesArt.com and BrushstrokesDirect.com.
In November 2000 Atelier America Inc. went live with theirmillion-dollar website under BrushstrokesArt.com. This was laterswitched to BrushstrokesDirect.com.

Malba: Modern Masters Showcased In Buenos Aires
The Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires should be at the top of the museum list for art lovers visiting Argentinas capital.
The museum contains an impressive permanent collection and a continuous stream of new and exciting temporary exhibitions.
Since its founding in 2001, The Latin American Art Museum of Buenos Aires has been dedicated to the preservation, dissemination, and integration of modern and contemporary Latin American art worldwide.
Located on the tranquil and historic Avenida Figueroa Alcorta in Palermo, the MALBA building was constructed to blend in with its surroundings and encourage a natural interaction between its visitors and the art it showcases.
At MALBA, even a bench is not just a bench: museum-goers in need of a break find themselves sitting on planks of wood that curve, wind, and intertwine on the floor and climb up the walls of the sun-drenched four-story building.
Inside, the gallery space is sectional yet fluid: visitors seamlessly transition from one period of art to the next.

Mitch Wine is the son of Harold Wine, Chairman ofWSP International Limited. Both were directors of Brushstrokes FineArt Inc.
Mitch did a remarkably good job of rebuilding the company. Under hisleadership Brushstrokes Fine Art Inc. signed a major contract with theIKEA retail chain, and they ran a “photo to painting” process throughthe Michael’s Arts and Crafts stores throughout North America, and viathe QVC TV channel.
Unfortunately they still did not have the Brushstrokes.com domain, andwe were getting traffic that should’ve been going to them.
Rather than approaching us openly and directly, our first contact camein 2004 from Grant Weltman of WSP International,“a marketing company in Birmingham Alabama”. He offered us $5000 forthe Brushstrokes.com domain, which of course we turned down. Then in2005 we were approached by Mitch Wine “of WSP International”, tryingagain to see if we were interested in selling. Through all of this there was no mention of theirconnection to Brushstrokes Fine Art Inc. Had Mitch Wine approached usopenly from the beginning and made a realistic offer a deal would’vebeen reached.
Thus began an annual attempt for Brushstrokes Fine Art Inc. to try toget the Brushstrokes.com domain. It always came around the time oftheir Christmas sales push, usually shortly after Christmas when theyreviewed their sales figures.

Great Works Of Latin America
Comprised of a selection of over 700 works from the private collection of founder, Argentine businessman and collector, Eduardo Constantini.
MALBAs permanent collection spans the entirety of the 20th century, beginning with the vanguard.
The artwork moves from the social and political art of the 1930s, to the surrealism of the 1940s and 50s, the conceptual, minimalist, and pop art of the 1960s and 1970s.
The collections culminates with the contemporary, including early works from Marta Minujín, a conceptual artist who is a Buenos Aires favorite.
Painting, sculpture, photography, print, drawing, and installation are all highlighted.
Along the journey visitors come into contact with major works by:
Xu Solar, Diego Rivera, Antonio Berni, Frida Kahlo and Jorge de la Vega, and a host of other modern masters from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Uruguay, and Venezuela.The trajectory of the Argentine painter Antonio Berni is particularly noteworthy: from Manifestacion , a social realist scene of twisted faces protesting for work and bread, to the eclectic sculpture Devoración o la pesadilla de Ramona .
The later work depicts Bernis famous and fictional prostitute Ramona, thigh-high clad legs up and flailing while being devoured by a crocodile.
With the breadth of Bernis work at MALBA, the visitor gets a strong sense of the artists aesthetic and politics throughout his career.
Encuentros: Artistic Exchange Between The Us And Latin America At Smithsonian American Art Museum
The histories of the United States and Latin American art have long been viewed as largely independent of each other. Transnational narratives have instead privileged exchange with Europe. But today there is a growing desire to dissolve the rigid borders that separate the history of art of the US from that of Latin America. This symposium examines artistic exchange between Latin America and the United States from the late nineteenth century to the present. Papers consider how artists and artworks have crossed the border separating the US and Latin America , creating new artistic dialogues and influencing each others work in meaningful ways.

The Smithsonian is building the National Museum of the American Latino to recognize the accomplishments, history, and culture of the Latino communities.

Cruz Diez Foundation Collection At The Museum Of Fine Arts Houston
The Cruz-Diez Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded in Houston in 2005 in collaboration with the MFAH and committed to preserving, developing, exhibiting, and researching the artistic and conceptual legacy of Franco-Venezuelan artist Carlos Cruz-Diez, one of the 20th centurys seminal thinkers in the field of color. More than 100 key works owned by the foundation, including paintings, silk-screen prints, innovative chromatic structures, and room-size chromatic environments, are housed at the Museum, which promotes their study, exhibition, and maintenance. The MFAH/Cruz-Diez partnership has been fundamental to documenting the artists investigations into optical phenomena, Kineticism, and color theory, and strives to make accessible to the public and lending institutions its research as well as the the opportunity to experience Cruz-Diezs most pioneering accomplishments.
The Pioneering Museum In The Western Us Features Contemporary Latin American And Latinx Art
The Museum of Latin American Art was founded in 1996 in Long Beach, California and serves the greater Los Angeles area. It is the pioneering museum in the United States dedicated to modern and contemporary Latin American and Latinx art. Since its inception, MOLAA has doubled its size, adding a 15,000 sq. ft. sculpture garden, and expanded its permanent collection, ranging from works by Tamayo, Matta, Cruz Diez to Romero, Baca and Mendieta. MOLAAs focus is on strengthening its position as a multidisciplinary institution providing a cross-cultural dialogue with artists to connect to both the scholarly community and the general public.

Provocative Touring Shows At The Malba
Visiting exhibits at the MALBA tend to be jaw-dropping, moving, beautiful or outrageous. These contemporary shows, typically by Latin American artists, rotate almost monthly you can check the schedule here. MALBAs movie theatre plays some interesting, off-beat films, and as the Constantini Foundation is dedicated to education, MALBA hosts open workshops on Philosophy, Film, and the Arts and leads guided visits for the hearing, visual, and mentally impaired.
Be sure to bring some pesos with you! The museum store features some funky and truly original things including clothes, notebooks, jewelry, mates, and other do-dads that would make great gifts. Head downstairs and check out the ample collection of art books, magazines, and music. You can also grab a coffee or bite to eat at the lovely museum cafe, Cafe des Arts.

The National Museum of the American Latino increases access to Latino art, history, and culture through public programs, educational materials, career and leadership development, and financial support. Since 2010, the Latino Curatorial Initiative has funded 20 positions for Latino curators, archivists and curatorial assistants across the Institution.
