Van Gogh Exhibit Exceptional
We just visited the very lovely Museum of Fine Arts in the museum district in central Houston to see the very outstanding and exceptionally curated Van Gogh exhibit. The exhibit tracks his work and relationships in chronological order presenting works from notable museums and private collections, a few even local. We took the audio guides and easily listened to great commentary about a number of pieces as we walked room to room. It took approximately 3 hours to see the works, read the postings and listen to the audio guide commentary. It was thrilling to see this very large collection. At the end of the exhibit, there was a well stocked gift shop dedicated solely to Van Gogh with many items shipped from Amsterdam. At the very end, there is a fantastic interactive exhibit where one can place themselves in some of the paintings, sketch some of the items he painted, do a self portrait or manipulate items in a scene. Adults and children alike were enjoying this experience. When you go there is a parking garage onsite and a tunnel that connects to the building with the exhibit. Tickets were $30 and parking for 4 hours was $10. Exhibit runs until the last week in June. Well worth seeing!

You might be amped up for the blockbuster Van Gogh exhibition thats coming to Houston this summer, so you might as well brush up on the iconic Dutch painters works with the exhibition: Hockney Van Gogh: The Joy of Nature, now open at MFAH.
The Joy of Nature explores the shared vision of pop-art expressionist David Hockney, and post-impressionist Vincent Van Gogh. Though the artists grew up in totally different places, geographically and in terms of artistic landscapes, both expressed a stark affinity for nature through the medium of their art.
The exposition will reveal Van Goghs undeniable inspiration in Hockneys work with 10 of his paintings and drawings, as well as nearly 50 of Hockneys sketches, paintings, and experimental videos.
Through a bold use of color and experimentation with perspective, each artist crafts a painterly world that is utterly individual and true to themselves, yet offers immense universal appeal, the museum writes on its website.
Hockney Van Gogh: The Joy of Nature premiered at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, and the Houston presentation marks the first time the two renowned artists have been paired in an American museum exhibition.

For all those Vincent van Gogh fans who once stood cheek-by-jowl at the Museum of Modern Art to get a selfie in front of The Starry Night, there are, suddenly, increasing opportunities to just about bathe in the painting.
Immersive experiences that turn the walls and floors of an exhibition space into a kind of van Gogh dream world have popped up in Chicago and St. Petersburg, Fla.
More are coming to Atlanta, Houston, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Francisco, Seattle, Philadelphia and Charlotte, N.C.
Boston, Dallas, Miami and New York are getting two experiences apiece, created separately by some of the half dozen companies that are now engaged in producing immersive van Gogh shows.
In a world of competition, of course, people will try to replicate, said Rob Kirk, the head of traveling experiences at Grande Experiences, whose Van Gogh Alive show has been exhibited since 2011. Its flattering.
Depending on where they live, fans also have a choice between Imagine Van Gogh: The Immersive Exhibition, or the Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit or Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience, or Beyond Van Gogh.

Youve heard about dueling pianos and dueling banjos, but what about dueling Vincents?
Well, Houston art lovers, youre about to, because not one, but two immersive Van Gogh-themed art exhibits are heading to the Bayou City. Not only do they both promise to bring the legendary post-impressionists works to life in a completely transformative 360-degree experience, but also they both have similar names to boota coincidence were sure.
Immersive Van Gogh, presented by Lighthouse Immersive and Impact, arrives in August with the promise of a digital exhibit that lets Vincent fans feel like theyre literally stepping inside iconic paintings like The Starry Night and those in the Sunflowers series, thanks to 500,000 cubic feet of moving projections that bring the artists individual brushstrokes to life. Combine all that with an evocative original score, and its no wonder that this particular exhibition was featured in an episode of Netflixs Emily in Paris.

The similarity in name, which has led to some confusion among art fans, has led the Better Business Bureau to issue a warning: Make sure you read everything carefully so you know which ticket youre buying.

Van Gogh Monet Degas And Their Times: The Mellon Collection Of French Art From The Virginia Museum Of Fine Arts
While its primary focus is on Impressionism, Van Gogh, Monet, Degas, and Their Times contains examples of French art created throughout the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, featuring styles ranging from Romanticism to Cubism. Among the highlights are works by seminal figures, including Edgar Degas, Eugène Delacroix, Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, and Vincent van Gogh. But the exhibition is more than an overview of art-historical achievement: it also offers a glimpse of the tastes and connoisseurship of one of the great American collecting couples of the twentieth century, Paul Mellon and his wife, Rachel Bunny Lambert Mellon. Philanthropists as well as collectors, the Mellons gave gifts of art to such distinguished institutions as the National Gallery of Art, the Yale Center for British Art, and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, where Paul Mellon served as a trustee for four decades.

Hockney Meets Van Gogh At The Museum Of Fine Arts Houston
The world is full of things that at first blush dont go together at all. Peanut butter and chocolate, anyone? And in the world of art, no less so. This week, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston brought together the illustrious late-19th-century Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh and the major contemporary British multimedia artist David Hockney. Didnt see that coming, did you?

These are trying times for Texans and Houstonians, of course, as they recover from the whims of nature and human hubris, so how apropos that the title of this new exhibitionHockney-Van Gogh: The Joy of Naturereminds us that the natural world is still to be celebrated. Mounted originally in Amsterdams Van Gogh Museum in 2019, the Houston show is made up of forty-seven works by Hockney in his usual mix of material, from sketches to iPad creations, and ten paintings and drawings from the hands of Van Gogh.
The obvious difference between the two geniuses is that Hockney paints much larger than Van Gogh ever could , and Hockney being always on the cutitng edge now prepares his studies by filming landscapes with multiple cameras on an SUV. And, of course, its Hockney who has had the benefit and great joy of studying Van Gogh over his career, as active as ever going on sixty years now.

Major Exhibition Organized By The Ago And The Muse D’orsay Breaks New Art Historical Ground By Exploring The Mystical Experience In Nature
TORONTO This fall, the Art Gallery of Ontario invites visitors to accompany some of the greatest artists of the 19th and 20th centuries on a spiritual journey of self-discovery. Organized in partnership with the renowned Musée dOrsay in Paris, Mystical Landscapes: Masterpieces from Monet, van Gogh and more breaks new ground by exploring the mystical experiences of 36 artists from 15 countries, including Emily Carr, Paul Gauguin, Vincent van Gogh, Vassily Kandinsky, Piet Mondrian, Claude Monet, Edvard Munch, Georgia OKeeffe and James McNeill Whistler. This major exhibition, which features close to 90 extraordinary paintings and 20 works on paper, debuts on and runs to , before opening at the Musée dOrsay in the spring of 2017.
The years between 1880 and 1930 were marked by rampant materialism and rapid urbanization. Disillusioned with traditional religious institutions, many artists across Europe and North America searched for an unmediated spiritual path through mystical experiences. They conveyed their feelings of unity with nature and the cosmos in some of the most famous landscape paintings ever created. Gauguin found inspiration in the faith of peasants in rural Brittany Monet sought solace from the First World War through hours of contemplation beside his waterlily pond at Giverny and van Gogh looked for consolation in the starry skies over Arles.

A year into the coronavirus pandemic, were all feeling a bit deprived of in-person entertainment. With the vaccine rollout, the world is starting to tentatively open its doorsand even concerts are on the horizon. For the arts community, the end of virtual museum visits and Zoom events is slowly inching closer.
But whats the most popular way to jumpstart the rejuvenation of arts and culture in Boston? Apparently, its mega-size versions of Vincent Van Gogh paintings.
In the coming year, not one, but two immersive Van Gogh exhibitions will be coming to the city. Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience and Imagine Van Gogh will both open in Boston in 2021, the first in September and the second in December.
Touting itself as the original immersive Van Gogh exhibition is Imagine Van Gogh . The exhibition first opened in France and has been touring around Canada to sold-out audiences for the past year. Starting December 21, around 24,000 square feet of floor-to-ceiling screens will fill the iconic SoWa Power Station in the South End. More than 200 of Van Goghs works will be displayed in Image Totale, or projected onto the screens in extreme closeup, giving viewers a new perspective on the Dutch painters most famous pieces.
While Imagine Van Gogh boasts its artistic directors backgrounds at the Cathédrale dImages in France, Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience can tout its greater access, with over a dozen iterations of the same exhibit around the world.
