Museum of Fine Arts Houston’s massive expansion opens to the public Saturday

THE MUSEUM OF FINE Arts’ restaurants Le Jardinier and Cafe Leonelli are rolling out the red carpet for the Culinary Canvas series, which spotlights the connection between food and art by bringing exhibitions to life in a culinary format. Getting hungry?

The ambitious program opened March 13, with special lunch and dinner offerings at Le Jardinier inspired by Virtual Realities: The Art of M.C. Escher from the Michael S. Sachs Collection on display in the museum through Sept. 5.Throughout the year, both will offer menu creations that coincide with the museums ever-changing exhibitions.

We wanted to further explore the intersection of art and food, and truly bring the works of various renowned artists to life at our restaurants, said chef Alain Verzeroli, Culinary Director of The Bastion Collection, in a statement. With Houston being one of the most culturally-diverse cities, this concept will add another unique component to our offerings and heighten guests overall experience.

May 19th, 2021 Update: The Le Jardinier Restaurant at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston officially opened on May 18th 2021.

For those with an eager appetite, elevated palette, and general fascination with all things culinary, its time to get excited! The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston is adding 2 new restaurants bringing food by Michelin Star Chefs to Houstonians.

The hospitality group responsible for La Table, will be making these new additions to its repertoire. The restaurants will stay in the groups tradition of creating elegant, high-quality dining experiences. With that being said, both bring something different to the table.

LOS ANGELES As the Hammer Museum emerges from last years pandemic shutdown, it has assembled a lineup of big names that it hopes will draw crowds back to its campus down the street from the University of California, Los Angeles: Cézanne, Manet, Monet, Toulouse-Lautrec. And Waters.

That would be Alice Waters, the restaurateur who founded Chez Panisse in Berkeley 50 years ago and went on to help define modern California cuisine. She is lending her name and reputation to Lulu, a new restaurant she has helped open in the courtyard of the Hammer, the first time she has associated herself so closely with a restaurant since opening Chez Panisse.

It will bring people who wouldnt be museumgoers to the museum, said Ann Philbin, the executive director of the Hammer, who recruited Ms. Waters for this project. It is about cross-pollination of audiences.

The Hammer, which is affiliated with U.C.L.A., is the latest in a long line of arts institutions collaborating with big-name chefs in the hopes of expanding their audiences. And Ms. Waters is the latest in a long line of celebrity restaurateurs to lend her name to a cultural institution.

New French Restaurant With Michelin Cred Blooms In Museum Of Fine Arts Houston

A fine dining restaurant with a Michelin star pedigree arrives in Houston next month. Le Jardinier will open May 18 inside the Kinder Building at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the restaurant announced.

French for “the gardener,” Le Jardinier comes to Houston via Miami and New York, where it holds one Michelin star. The restaurant defines itself as “a refined, vegetable-forward concept rooted in French culinary technique and inspired by the seasonality of ingredients.”

While it’s not a vegetarian restaurant , vegetables take center stage in dishes such as burrata with tomatoes, stone fruit, bee pollen, and basil seeds Ora King salmon with courgettes and lemongrass emulsion and grilled bavette au jus with broccolini and eggplant mousse.

Chef Alain Verzeroli possesses an impressive resume. During his training in Paris, he worked at three star restaurants Taillevent, Guy Savoy, and l’Arpège, where he served as executive sous chef. Prior to opening Le Jardinier, he held three Michelin stars at Tokyos Château Restaurant Joël Robuchon. Still, Le Jardinier’s menu has been crafted with Houstonians in mind.

Michelin Star Restaurant Concept Coming This Spring To The Mfah

In the summer of 2019, Bastion Restaurants opened New York and Miami locations of a vegetable- and seafood-focused restaurant called Le Jardinier. In 2020, the Big Apple location won a Michelin Star. This year, Le Jardinier will open in Houston.

Bastion announced Tuesday the impending arrival of its renowned restaurant’s H-Town location at the Nancy and Rich Kinder Building at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Alain Verzeroli, executive chef of the Le Jardinier concept, will oversee the opening.

Along with Le Jardinier, Bastion is bringing the more casual Cafe Leonelli to MFAH. Where Le Jardinier will rely on a vegetable-rich menu that highlights Texas produce, Cafe Leonellirun by chef Jonathan Bennowill feature buffet-style service, with pasta, polenta, focaccia, and more. The café will also offer pastries from Salvatore Martone.

Cafe Leonelli is slated to open in March, while Le Jardinier eyes an April unveiling.

Patricia Sharpe Sampled Drinks Dinner And Desserts ‘more Dramatic Than The Outfits On Rupauls Drag Race’

One of Houston’s newest restaurants just got some high praise from Texas Monthly critic Patricia Sharpe.

Le Jardinier, the French restaurant located in Houston’s Museum of Fine Arts, impressed Sharpe enough that she noted it should be counted as the best museum restaurant in Texasand perhaps as one of the best in the country.

Over two dinners, she sampled the restaurant’s cocktails, small plates, a “remarkable chicken breast,” and desserts “more dramatic than the outfits on ‘RuPauls Drag Race.'”

“Often when I eat at a new restaurant, I wonder how it will do over the next year or two,” Sharpe writes in her review for the upcoming issue of Texas Monthly. “Im especially curious about Le Jardinier, if for no other reason than, one of these days, the Michelin Guide might come snooping around Houston.

“If and when it does, I cant imagine that its inspectors would fail to visit the sibling of a property upon which they had bestowed a star. Until that happens, though, Le Jardinier will just have to content itself with being the best museum restaurant in the state. And one of the best in the country. Come to think of it, thats saying a lot.”

Cafe Leonelli, inspired by New Yorks Leonelli Bakery, will be focusing on Italian fare with an emphasis on freshly prepared pasta and bread. Jonathan Benno, backed by Michelin star renown, will serve as head chef for this exciting new restaurant. By his side will be Salvatore Martone as the establishments esteemed pastry chef. With their skills combined, the team aims to provide accessible Italian food that reaches a top-notch standard.

Also joining Cafe Leonelli will be Le Jardinier, a French concept boasting a picturesque atmosphere as well as a highly respected team. Alain Verzeroli will serve as head chef, pouring decades of impressive experience into this new stage of his career. Also hailing from a Michelin star background, Verzeroli promises to deliver an amazing dining experience. Overlooking the Museum of Fine Art Houstons sculpture garden, guests can look forward to delicious dishes focusing on organic, locally-sourced cuisine.

Both of these restaurants are set to open in the spring, with Cafe Leonelli debuting in March and Le Jardinier following shortly behind in April. Both of these dining establishments will reside in the Museum of Fine Arts Kinder Building. The Kinder Building is one of MFAHs newest additions from its most recent renovation.
