The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts is an art museum in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It is the largest art museum in Canada by gallery space. The museum is located on the historic Golden Square Mile stretch of Sherbrooke Street.

The MMFA is spread across five pavilions, and occupies a total floor area of 53,095 square metres , 13,000 of which are exhibition space. With the 2016 inauguration of the Michal and Renata Hornstein Pavilion for Peace, the museum campus was expected to become the eighteenth largest art museum in North America. The permanent collection included approximately 44,000 works in 2013. The original “reading room” of the Art Association of Montreal was the precursor of the museum’s current library, the oldest art library in Canada.

The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts is a member of the International Group of Organizers of Large-scale Exhibitions, also known as the Bizot Group, a forum which allows the leaders of the largest museums in the world to exchange works and exhibitions.

Founded in 1860, it is the oldest art museum in Canada. In 2020, it was the most visited art museum in Canada.

Applying To Exhibit In The Community Gallery

The DAmour Museum of Fine Arts Community Gallery is dedicated to showcasing the work of emerging and mid-career artists living in Western Massachusetts and Northern Connecticut. Exhibitions celebrate the rich and diverse talent of contemporary American artists living and working in our region. Artists are selected by jury and typically exhibit for a period of one year.

Founded in 1860, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts is the oldest art museum in Canada and a leading museum in North America. Its collection showcases Quebec and Canadian heritage and international art from a critical and intercultural perspective, and comprises over 45,000 paintings, sculptures, graphic art works, photographs, multimedia installations and decorative art objects dating from antiquity to the present. The MMFAs exhibitions span every discipline from archaeology to fine arts, to contemporary practices. Greenfield Commercial Credit was sold to Gibraltar Business Capital inMarch 2012.

Move To Sherbrooke Street West

Too cramped at its original location, the Art Association strongly considered the idea of moving from Phillips Square to the Golden Square Mile, where most of the city’s financial elite lived at the time. They settled on the site of the abandoned Holton House, on Sherbrooke Street West, for the construction of the new museum. Senator Robert Mackay, the owner of the property, was convinced to sell the house for a good price. A committee responsible for the construction of the museum was formed consisting of James Ross, Richard B. Angus, Vincent Meredith, Louis-Joseph Forget and David Morrice . Most members of this committee offered a considerable amount of their own money for the construction of the museum. This included a large donation by businessman James Ross. The Phillip’s Square location was demolished in 1912, and is now a Burger King.

A limited architectural design competition was conducted to select an architect among three architectural firms that were invited to apply. The museum committee selected the project proposed by brothers Edward Maxwell and William Sutherland Maxwell. Trained in the Beaux-Arts tradition, they proposed a building that catered to French taste of the time: sober and majestic. Work began in the summer of 1910 and finished in the fall of 1912.

Michele And Donald Damour Museum Of Fine Arts

The Michele and Donald DAmour Museum of Fine Arts, established in 1933 and housed in an Art Deco style building, includes a comprehensive collection of Americanand European paintings, prints, watercolors, and sculpture as well as a large collection of Japanese prints and representative examples of drawing, furniture, metalwork, textiles, glass and ceramics. The Museum houses a comprehensive collection of European Art and the Currier & Ives collection, one of the largest holdings of lithographs in the nation.

The inaugural installation in the Harriet and Warren Stephens Galleries contains more than 150 diverse works of art from the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts Foundation Collection. AMFA is the only art museum in Arkansas that collects internationally and possesses more than seven centuries of artistic production.

An intimately direct artistic expression, drawing is a defining strength of the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts Foundation Collection. In the early 1970s, AMFA made the strategic decision to focus its collecting activities to drawings and other works on paper. Among the first works purchased were those by three living American artistsAndrew Wyeths Snowflakes, Willem de Koonings Untitled and Morris Gravess Animalall of which laid the foundation for future growth and are on view in these galleries. In the time since, the drawing collection has grown considerably and now contains more than 5000 examples.

The inaugural installation fills more than 15,000 square feet across five galleries. Greeting guests is a recently conserved, nearly life-sized bull painting by Elaine de Kooning, who gave a workshop in 1972 at the Museums Art School. The first gallery introduces guests to highlights from the collection, including a dense, floor-to-ceiling installation of contemporary craftfiber, wood, ceramics, glass, and metal-based art, another focus of the collectionmirrored on the opposite wall by a monumental, assembled wood sculpture by Louise Nevelson.

Mitch Wine is the son of Harold Wine, Chairman ofWSP International Limited. Both were directors of Brushstrokes FineArt Inc.

Mitch did a remarkably good job of rebuilding the company. Under hisleadership Brushstrokes Fine Art Inc. signed a major contract with theIKEA retail chain, and they ran a “photo to painting” process throughthe Michael’s Arts and Crafts stores throughout North America, and viathe QVC TV channel.

Unfortunately they still did not have the Brushstrokes.com domain, andwe were getting traffic that should’ve been going to them.

Rather than approaching us openly and directly, our first contact camein 2004 from Grant Weltman of WSP International,“a marketing company in Birmingham Alabama”. He offered us $5000 forthe Brushstrokes.com domain, which of course we turned down. Then in2005 we were approached by Mitch Wine “of WSP International”, tryingagain to see if we were interested in selling. Through all of this there was no mention of theirconnection to Brushstrokes Fine Art Inc. Had Mitch Wine approached usopenly from the beginning and made a realistic offer a deal would’vebeen reached.

Thus began an annual attempt for Brushstrokes Fine Art Inc. to try toget the Brushstrokes.com domain. It always came around the time oftheir Christmas sales push, usually shortly after Christmas when theyreviewed their sales figures.

The Blackburn Group Inc Invests In Atelier America Inc

To finance this dramatic change the Blackburn Group Inc. of London,Ontario, Canada invested heavily in Atelier America Inc.

They paid Iguana Studios, New York, one million dollars todevelop a website for Brushstrokes. However they had one significantproblem – they didn’t own the Brushstrokes.com domain.

The first that we knew about any of this was inNovember 1999 when we received an e-mail from William Goldsteinrepresenting a “Canadian art company” interested in buying the rightsto the domain.

Unfortunately they embarked on a lot of deception in the early stagesof negotiation, which of course eroded away any trust. After negotiatingwith them over a four month period we were not able to agree on arealistic price for the Brushstrokes.com domain. They were prepared togo no higher than $150,000 and we were holding out for somewhere between$200-250,000. Had the deal gone ahead Atelier America Inc. could haverecovered this in a matter of weeks once the new business was launched.

In order to move forward with their “Plan B”, Atelier America thenregistered nearly 30 domain names, many in the form ofBrushstrokesSomething.com. The two that most people will be familiarwith were BrushstrokesArt.com and BrushstrokesDirect.com.

In November 2000 Atelier America Inc. went live with theirmillion-dollar website under BrushstrokesArt.com. This was laterswitched to BrushstrokesDirect.com.

The Montreal Museum Of Fine Arts Collections

The Museums rich collections are divided into six major sections distributed among the five pavilions of the Museum complex. Each of them focuses on a key area of the holdings. Since its founding in 1860, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts is more forward-looking than ever!

The institution, which is not a government-run museum, has relied on generous donors for the expansion of its encyclopedic heritage collection, which includes more then 45,000 works.

The Museums collections were thoroughly studied and given a major reinstallation in 2001 as well as in 2011, prior to the opening of the Claire and Marc Bourgie Pavilion of Quebec and Canadian Art, and again in 2016, with the inauguration of the Michal and Renata Hornstein Pavilion for Peace. The new pavilions have enabled visitors to enjoy enhanced views of thousands of works in spectacular exhibition spaces.

The MMFAs new Stéphan Crétier and Stéphany Maillery Wing for World Cultures and Togetherness will open in November 2019.

Socit De Transport De Montral

Public local transport is served by a network of buses, subways, and commuter trains that extend across and off the island. The subway and bus system are operated by the Société de transport de Montréal . The consists of 203 daytime and 23 night time routes. STM bus routes serve 1,347,900 passengers on an average weekday in 2010. It also provides adapted transport and wheelchair-accessible buses. The STM won the award of Outstanding Public Transit System in North America by the APTA in 2010. It was the first time a Canadian company won this prize.

The Metro was inaugurated in 1966 and has 68 stations on four lines. It is Canada’s busiest subway system in total daily passenger usage, serving 1,050,800 passengers on an average weekday . Each station was designed by different architects with individual themes and features original artwork, and the trains run on rubber tires, making the system quieter than most. The project was initiated by Montreal Mayor , who later brought the Summer Olympic Games to Montreal in 1976. The Metro system has long had a station on the South Shore in , and in 2007 was extended to the city of Laval, north of Montreal, with three new stations. The metro has recently been modernizing its trains, purchasing new Azur models with inter-connected wagons.

It is one of Air Canada’s major and operates on average approximately 2,400 flights per week between Montreal and 155 destinations, spread on five .

The Museum of Fine Arts of São Paulo is a university museum located in the neighborhood of Vila Mariana, in the city of São Paulo, Brasil. It opened on September 23, 2007 and was officially registered on April 14, 2008. The museum is connected to the Fine Arts University Center of São Paulo , a private institution of higher learning, and is sustained through the School of Fine Arts Foundation of São Paulo .

The museum aims at the conservation, documentation, study, and exhibition of the collection of art and history saved since 1925 through the university center when it was founded under the denomination of the Academy of Fine Arts of São Paulo. As a university museum, it also acts in the promotion and dissemination of the scientific production and cultural production of Fine Arts and how didactic experimentation and center of cultural diffusion, organizing temporary exhibitions and various educational activities.
