The Body Electric Will Be On View From Nov 5 2020 Through May 30 2021
Museum of Art and Design at Miami Dade College presents The Body Electric, a major exhibition that looks at our fraught relationship to technology, particularly the increasingly inescapable interface between our bodies and screens. The remarkably varied art in the exhibition examines the last 50 years of artists addressing the way technological mediation has come to dominate our interactions with the world, with each other, and with ourselves. The Body Electric will be on view from Nov. 5, 2020, through May 30, 2021.
In an age dominated by digital technology, The Body Electric explores themes of the real and the virtual, the organic and the artificial, moving from the world into the screen and back again. Looking across the past 50 years, the exhibition presents an intergenerational and international group of 55 artists and collectives that have seized upon the screen as a place to rethink the body and identity, with a particular emphasis on questions of gender, sexuality, class, and race. The exhibition contextualizes contemporary artists who today engage with digital technology and the influence of the Internet within a broader art historical narrative to reveal shared interests that emerge across generations, despite differing technological means.

Superflex: We Are All In The Same Boat
SUPERFLEX: We Are All in the Same Boat, the first large-scale exhibition of the critically acclaimed Danish collective SUPERFLEX in the United States, focuses on the groups playfully subversive installations and films that deal with the economy, financial crisis, corruption, migration, and the possible consequences of global warming.
The title of the exhibition, We Are All in the Same Boat, sets its tone and theme. The figure of speech envisions passengers together in a ship at sea, and a set of shared risks that may put them in danger. It is an idiom that suggests that if our boat sinks, we all sink with it but if it stays afloat, we might reach the shore. Our collective danger implies a collective responsibility and a need to collaborate, so that our ship does not capsize. It obviously refers to the simple importance of sharing and working together collaboratively, but also to problems that we now face and the current global situation.
SUPERFLEX: We Are All in the Same Boat is organized by MOAD and curated by Jacob Fabricius, Artistic Director of Kunsthal Aarhus. Support for SUPERFLEX: We Are All in the Same Boat is provided by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, Funding Arts Network, the Danish Arts Foundation, and the Florida Department of State Division of Cultural Affairs.

Museum Of Art And Design At Mdc Opens New Education Lab
Miami, Jan. 27, 2022 Museum of Art and Design at Miami Dade College launches a new multipurpose Education Lab on the third floor of the Colleges National Historic Landmark Freedom Tower. Adjacent to the Museums galleries and conceived and executed by the Miami studio AMLgMATD, the lab will host education programs for all ages, from children to adults. The Education Lab opens in late February 2022.
In a project several years in the making, MOAD commissioned the designers of AMLgMATD to reimagine its existing education room and make it adaptable to the variety of education programs the Museum offers, from lectures and workshops for adults and college students to hands-on artmaking activities with kids. They created a dynamic ensemble of custom-built cabinetry, furniture, and wall and floor treatments that can be reconfigured for multiple uses. Monochrome wooden surfaces alternate with strategically deployed moments of strong and vivid color. AMLgMATD employed sustainable, healthy, and recycled materials, and invented a unique and engaging hybrid style called Tropical Cubism.
The redesign of the Education Lab is made possible by support of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners and the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Arts and Culture, and the Florida Council on Arts and Culture.
