Your First Museum Job: Preparator

Overview

Reporting to The Maurice Marciano Director at the Museum of Contemporary Art , The Chief of Public Engagement, Learning, & Impact is responsible for the strategic leadership and management of the museums Education Department, Visitor Engagement, Public Programs, Community Engagement, Publications, and R& D initiatives. This newly-created position organizes and supervises the teams for each of these areas, ensuring that MOCA develops and executes responsive and compelling content throughout the museum. This role will have the opportunity to build evolving areas of their teams. Dialoguing with the museums exhibitions and performing arts programs, among others, this crucial senior position will ensure unified, synchronized, and ambitious storytelling that will reflect and commemorate the institutions history and future, as well as its values and priorities.

The CPELI enables MOCA to leverage and distill its exhibitions, collections, and wide-ranging programs into accessible, academic, creative, and engaging opportunities for the public to meaningfully connect with the institution as a cultural and civic resource. As lead on public programs and partnerships, as well as on developing new initiatives around publications, research, and archival projects, the role also implements innovative structures and practices that preserve MOCAs history and expand its reach.

The Position

We are looking for friendly and outgoing people to join our team for the duration of the exhibition Edward Hoppers New York. Be a part of our dedicated Visitor and Gallery Assistants team at the premier Museum of 20th and 21st Century American Art. As the customer service representatives of the Visitor and Member Experience team, VGAs engage visitors on their journey throughout the Museum. This is a temporary assignment from September 25, 2022 through March 5, 2023.

Edward Hoppers New York will take a comprehensive look at Hoppers life and work through his city pictures, from his early impressions of New York in sketches, prints, and illustrations, to his late paintings, in which the city served as a backdrop for his evocative distillations of urban experience. This exhibition will be the first of its kind to focus on Hoppers rich and sustained relationship with New York: how the city served as the subject, setting, and inspiration for so many of the artists most celebrated and persistently vexing pictures. Art lovers are encouraged to apply.

The Museum of the City of New York is seeking a smart, hardworking, detail-oriented, energetic, and experienced Manager, Visitor and Retail Customer Relations to lead the Museums ticketing, customer service, and retail sales team. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, this position will manage the hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, and motivating the staff of approximately 15 part-time employees. Working in close collaboration with the Associate Director of Retail, this position will be focused on maximizing visitor satisfaction while assisting in achieving retail sales goals.

The museum is expanding our e-commerce product selection and refining our customer service experience online, so its an exciting time to join our team. This role will participate in weekly team meetings to streamline our online store processes and optimize work flow. The Director of Public Programs is responsible for interpretative programming that builds on exhibitions as well as for original programming initiatives in pursuit of the museums mission to promote artistic innovation, original scholarship, and community investment across the museums two physical locations, in the digital sphere, and offsite for special projects.
