Located on the Upper East Side near Central Park, the neighborhood around the Met is bustling with plenty of other things to see and doand many great places to dine. There happen to be several food options within the museum itself, but if you want to explore the area a bit, its also nice to wander to a nearby eatery before or after visiting the museum. For some tips on the best restaurants near the Met Museum, read on!

How Long Does It Take To Walk Through The Metropolitan Museum Of Art

There is no definitive answer to this question as it depends on how much time you spend looking at each individual exhibit. However, on average, it would probably take between two and three hours to walk through the entire museum.

Katie was a fantastic instructor and guide. The tour group of about eight people was a perfect size. We were able to see many items that we would not have seen, and each piece had an interesting story to tell. Her tour of California was a fantastic experience for me. We had the pleasure of visiting one of New York Citys most popular attractions. Non-flash photography can be taken at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Photography and videography cannot be carried out inside the museum. There are only a few rooftop gardens open from May to October during the summer months. Certain rooms can be rented out for events, making them unstaffed for the duration of the event.

Scott Q Campbell At The Metropolitan Opera

Whether you remember Chef Campbell from Vince & Eddies, Avenue or SQC, youll be happy to know that as the Executive Chef, employed by the Patina Group, he now oversees all the food at the Metropolitan Opera. What that means is that its time to pick your favorite opera and book a table at the Grand Tier Restaurant, head to Lincoln Center towards the end of the afternoon and get ready for a quintessential New York experience.

Climb the curved double staircase, turn towards the stunning wall of windows and sit at your table, under the watchful eye of Marc Chagalls towering 30 feet by 36 feet mural,The Source of Music. Soon, Chef Campbell appears, greeting regulars and discussing the cast of Puccinis Madama Butterfly.

A music lover and longtime New York Philharmonic subscriber, Campbell has kept the classics, beef tenderloin mignon and seared salmon on the menu, but brought some of his seasonal new-American dishes such as a delicious apple and butternut squash soup. Everything except the bread is made on the premises. On gala evenings, he lets the music theme influence the choice of dishes.

The Members Dining Room at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC was one of our NYC Restaurant Week Winter 2017 picks for where to go. See all of our posts tagged NYC.

Members Dining Room at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Location and Hours

The Members Dining Room is located on the 4th floor of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which is at 1000 5th Avenue, entrance near 82nd Street. You’ll need to be a Met member unless it’s Restaurant Week. During Restaurant Week, make your way to the Members Desk on the right hand side of the hall, mention you have a reservation at the Members Dining Room, and you’ll be given a Museum ticket sticker to wear.

Next, cross over to the other side of the hall and go towards the Greek column. When you get there, take a right and go all the way to European Sculpture and Decorative Arts, where you take an elevator up to the 4th floor.

The Members Dining Room is open for lunch Monday Friday 12noon to 2pm, Saturday 11:30am-2pm, and Sunday 11am-3pm. It’s open for dinner Fridays and Saturdays 5:30-10:30pm .

Christopher Engel At The Neue Galerie

For twenty years, Ronald Lauders Neue Galerie has offered locals and travelers an artistic time capsule dedicated to German and Austrian art and design between 1890 and 1940.

At Café Sabarsky, named for the late co-founder of the museum, the décor clearly says Vienna, turn of the century. Lunch gets very busy with lines extending outside the building, but its another quintessential New York experience to dine here, at the corner of 86th Street and Fifth Avenue, surrounded by Josef Hoffmans light fixtures and furniture by Adolf Loos.

Cafe Sabarsky’s decor is reminiscent of a Viennese cafe circa 1900.

Chef Engel was born near Frankfurt, but you may remember him from Wallsé or Aureole. He has kept the old menu but added his own touches.

A schnitzel is a schnitzel, he said, laughing, but the best ingredients can make a difference.

Ronald Lauder dines there often and remembers his mothers Central European cooking vividly. Chef and co-founder discuss new specials, often working together until both are satisfied. On a recent visit, I tasted an ethereal crêpe filled with smoked trout mousse and served with horseradish crème fraîche. Specials included seared duck breast served with red cabbage and sole dabbed in light almond cream sauce.

Bill Telepan At The Metropolitan Museum Of Art

We made a lobster roll for the American Wing, said Chef Bill Telepan, standing in front of a Roman marble statue of a wounded warrior, circa A.D. 138-181. It took me a second to understand what he meant.

When last we met, he was surrounded by pots and pans in the kitchen at Oceana, the midtown seafood mecca he helmed after the close of Telepan, his much-beloved bistro on the Upper West Side. Today, as the Culinary Director at the Metropolitan Museum of Art , he presides over several kitchens and dining rooms.

Its a new kind of adventure for Bill Telepan, who since 2008, remains the executive chef for Wellness in the Schools, fighting for schoolchildrens access to healthier meals nationwide.

Id been on museum tours before, but this recent one led me through a different route! From the staff cafeterias to the bustling Eatery and the members Balcony Lounge, we roamed the Met culinary maze.

When are we getting the eggplant sandwich back? asked a staff member, as we strolled through one of the staff cafeterias. Our food choices can support the environment, touted a large sign, while another described a recipe for pumpkin soup. In the hallway between kitchens, another sign warns Yield to art in transit, but it is unclear whether art refers to a painting or a tray of the pecan and chocolate cookies the chef adapted from his mothers recipe.

Three New York Chefs Land At Iconic Cultural Institutions

Wondering where all the chefs have gone? During the pandemic in New York City alone, thousands of restaurants closed and many employees in the industry were forced to reinvent themselves. Turns out, three of our favorite chefs are now overseeing the culinary offerings at three iconic New York cultural institutions.

The Best Dorothy Draper

Exploring world’s LARGEST MUSEUM | The Metropolitan Museum of Art
Once upon a time, tucked away in the grand halls of the Greek and Roman Wing of New York Citys Metropolitan Museum of Art, was a technicolor oasis worthy of Emperor Augustusdreamed up by none other than the legendary Dorothy Draper.
Standing in the current iteration of the Metropolitan Museum of Arts Roman Court, its hard to envision it as anything other than an impressive limestone-and-marble backdrop for the ancient art it holds. But from 1954 to 2003, the area all the way at the end of the McKim, Mead & White-designed classical wing served as the museums main watering hole, and the restaurant was designed by Dorothy Draper, just one of the many boldfaced commercial projects the self-trained decorator completed in the Big Apple over her impressive forty-year career.
Nicknamed The Dorotheum with some derision by the museums then-director and conservative all-male board of directors, the soaring sky-lit room nevertheless delighted the public, and the New York Times referred to it as one of New Yorks most beautiful dining rooms. With her signature theatrical touches and saturated palette, Draper coated the walls, ceiling and column bases in a decadent blackberry hue. Banquettes and chairs popped in vibrant coral and electric aquamarine, and oversize birdcage chandeliers hovered overhead. Every detail was chosen to reduce the rooms vast scale and make it more human.

Can You Drink Tap Water In Greece?

Greece has been experiencing a water crisis for some time. Drinking water is not safe in this country due to the heavy pollution of the River Evros. Even if the water coming from the taps is safe, its not always the best choice for the taste buds. Given Greeces geographical location, its no surprise that many visitors are curious about how they can drink tap water there. Yes, but it is not always the best option. The best way to find out about water quality is to speak with locals in specific areas. Bottled water is also reasonably priced in Greece, so its a good idea to stock up on some while youre there.

There are a variety of contraceptive methods and products available, including pills, patches, rings, and injections. The disadvantages and benefits of different methods will not be the same, so it is critical to consider both pros and cons before making a decision. Birth control pills must be used in conjunction with other medications and supplements to avoid interactions with them. Birth control pills combined with coffee may cause jitteriness, headaches, and a fast heartbeat, according to one study. Acetaminophen may also cause liver damage if taken with coffee, so it is important to be aware of this risk while taking it. Before deciding on contraceptives, you should consult with your doctor to determine whether you have any options or side effects.
