The Highlights Of 9/11 Museum And Memorial
The main sight at 9/11 Memorial is the twin reflecting pools representing the footprints of the Twin Towers. These are the largest man made waterfall of North America. In the same place, youll also find the plaques with the names of those who died in the 1993 and 2001 terrorist attacks.

And when it says 9 am that doesnt mean you can do it any time on Monday. As with all things that are in short supply you should sign on right after the opening time tickets will go fast. If you come several hours later they may very well be gone.
Of course its 9:00 am, NYC time. As nytraveler mentioned, the tickets are limited. If you get on at 9:00 am, you should be fine, but dont hesitate.

A Bit Of History: 11 September 2011
It will be hard for me to forget that Tuesday in September when, having returned home from school with my brother, we turned on the television as usual to play video games, but never got round to changing the channel: we were absorbed in watching the images of the Twin Towers collapsing in a cloud of black smoke, which the news repeated over and over again.
We had not long returned to Madrid after living in New York for nearly seven years, so those images came from the place we still considered home.
Chances are, if you’re reading this, you also have a story to tell about 9/11. If you weren’t in New York, chances are you were caught at home, watching the news in complete shock like me. If you lived in New York, your story will be very different, and it is precisely this story that is told at the 9/11 Memorial and Museum in New York.

/11 Ground Zero Museum Workshop
Founder Gary Marlon Suson was the official photographer of the FDNY at Ground Zero. This allowed him to take rare photographs and obtain special objects that visitors can see and hold in the 9/11 Workshop. The museum is inspired by the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam a small museum that gives insight into an event. In this case, an insight into the lives of the people of the FDNY and the recovery teams.
In this museum, located in the Meatpacking District, you can see pictures of firefighters and the dogs searching for victims, the PATH tunnels under Ground Zero and the Honor Guard, the ceremony when a colleague was found. During this search, they found many objects from the Twin Towers, which can now be seen in the Ground Zero museum. These items include the Frozen Clock, which shows the exact time that the first tower collapsed and a calendar found in the PATH station, which has Today is September 11 on display. What makes the Ground Zero Workshop special is that you get to hold objects and that founder Gary is present to tell you more about his experience.
The museum in New York is best experienced by means of the interactive audio tour. It takes you past the photo and tells you when you can hold an item. You can also hear fragments that were recorded at Ground Zero. Think of barking dogs, trucks removing debris and prayers being recited.

Arrangement Of The Victims’ Names
The names of 2,983 victims are inscribed on 152 bronze parapets on the memorial pools: 2,977 killed in the September 11 attacks and six killed in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. The names are arranged according to an algorithm, creating “meaningful adjacencies” based on relationshipsproximity at the time of the attacks, company or organization affiliations and in response to about 1,200 requests from family members. Software made by Local Projects implemented the arrangement. All names are stylized with Optima typeface for a “balanced appearance”.
The names of the employees and visitors in the North Tower , the passengers and crew of American Airlines Flight 11 , and the employees and a visitor of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing are around the perimeter of the North Pool. The names of the employees and visitors in the South Tower , the passengers and crew of United Airlines Flight 175 , the employees, visitors, and bystanders in the immediate vicinity of the North and South Towers, the first responders who died during rescue operations, the passengers and crew of United Airlines Flight 93 and American Airlines Flight 77 , and the employees at the Pentagon are around the perimeter of the South Pool. Company names are not included, but company employees and visitors are listed together. Passengers on the four flights are listed under their flight numbers, and first responders with their units.
What Will You See
Visiting the 911 Memorial Museum is both sobering and uplifting. Youll hear stories of tragedy and heroism, leaving you both sad and hopeful. Some of the sites include:
- Historical exhibits that talk about the days before and after 911. Its not advisable for kids under 10 years, because of the potential emotional impact.
- In Memoriam, a tribute to the fallen.
- Daily feature films in Museum Pavilion L2, the museums auditorium.
- The Survivor Tree, a Callery Pear which lived through the disaster, was rehabilitated, and replanted at Ground Zero. Seedlings from this tree are annually donated to three communities that have survived tragedies of their own.
- Twin Reflecting Pools drop into the largest man-made waterfall in the US. The pools lie in what would have been the shadow of the Twin Towers, and measure nearly an acre each. At the edge of the pools, there are bronze engravings naming everyone we lost. The pools are 10m metres deep .
- The Sphere, which was originally positioned between the Twin Towers, survived the attack and now has an eternal flame as a tribute.
- The Observatory includes a pre-show, 3 floors to explore , a pod elevator ride, and See Forever Theatre.
