The Illustrated Map Of The Metropolitan Museum Of Art

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, often referred to as The Met, is one of the largest and most important museums in the United States. Its headquarters is located on the east side of Central Park in New York City, along what is called the Museum Mile.

The Met building is about 450 meters long and occupies an area of more than 180,000 square meters, a place that oozes art and history from all sides, where you can always find something new or something that has escaped in recent visits.

Thus John Kerschbaum undertook the arduous task in 2004 of illustrating to visitors a condensed but no less detailed map of the objects on display at the MET.A feat not for everyone, the artist also had to deal with some modifications, as the museum added and removed exhibitions and pieces in the following years, but the guide is still valid for people visiting the institution.

One of the biggest challenges was keeping up with the museum itself. Every time I visited, it was different than my previous visit, says the illustrator. Taking inspiration from a 1976 poster of Manhattan by artist Tony Graham, the whimsical, colorful map that was completed in 2007 has humored visitors ever since. Starting with the Egyptian wing in the bottom right corner, and stretching to include sights like medieval armor, Renaissance portraits, and Grecian sculptures, the Wheres Waldo? compactness of the guide features a hidden scavenger hunt along its borders.

The Best Photos On Display At Phmuseum Days

Among the most interesting photography events to be announced in the coming months is definitely PhMuseumDays, the exhibition scheduled from September 23 to October 2 in DumBOs Spazio Bianco in Bologna. For the second year, the event will host an exhibition of shots taken by Italian and international artists, as well as talks, screenings and a section dedicated to independent photography publishing. The theme of PhMuseum Days 2022 is Today Is Yesterdays Tomorrow, which appears both as a reflection on time in relation to the contemporary space in which we live and as an awareness of the responsibility our actions have on a world we might not live in but which we are dramatically affecting.

In many of the series that will be presented at PhMuseum Days, the theme of the future and especially the past is central to the depiction of the subjects. Among and other themes addressed by the photographers are those related to weapons in Russia, stories of immigration to Greece, addiction to love but also a quest to reconstruct ones familys past through a small detail such as fingerprints.Tickets will be available from July 25 at phmuseumdays.it, save the date!

Los Angeles Is A Collage For Photographer Andrew Soria

If we had not started building houses and cities our eyes would have been able to see miles and miles away without any distraction. In some ways we would have felt a sense of sameness in many parts of the world, seeing a homogeneous landscape without contrasts, an opposite definition to that of a city, especially one as large as LosAngeles.Photographer AndrewSoria has captured this detail of his city, namely the layering of contrasting elements that define the landscape and different neighborhoods.

Andrew Soria in this series made with collages of different photographs wants to celebrate the identity of the city by representing the characteristic elements of each neighborhood. Store and fast food signs as well as skyscrapers thus appear as a guide to the citys different neighborhoods, but also a narrative of the condition of those who live in them, whether poverty or extreme wealth. The photographer says his Welcome to the Neighborhood series This project aids in the beautification process of the city, and helps build a sense of character amongst locals and tourists alike. It brings awareness, nostalgia, and a sense of pride to its vibrant neighborhoods.

Location

The Metropolitan Museum of Art of New York City, colloquially “the Met“, is the largest art museum in the Western Hemisphere. Its permanent collection contains over two million works, divided among 17 curatorial departments. The main building at 1000 Fifth Avenue, along the Museum Mile on the eastern edge of Central Park on Manhattan‘s Upper East Side, is by area one of the world’s largest art museums. A much smaller second location, The Cloisters at Fort Tryon Park in Upper Manhattan, contains an extensive collection of art, architecture, and artifacts from medieval Europe.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art was founded in 1870 with its mission to bring art and art education to the American people. The museum’s permanent collection consists of works of art from classical antiquity and ancient Egypt, paintings, and sculptures from nearly all the European masters, and an extensive collection of American and modern art. The Met maintains extensive holdings of African, Asian, Oceanian, , and Islamic art. The museum is home to encyclopedic collections of musical instruments, costumes, and accessories, as well as antique weapons and armor from around the world. Several notable interiors, ranging from 1st-century Rome through modern American design, are installed in its galleries.

Percent Of The Worlds Surviving Vermeer Paintings

The Vermeer Collection | Gallery 632

Only 36 paintings by Johannes Vermeer are known to survive, and the Met has five of them.

Why Its Must See: Vermeer is treasured as a master of light, and as a sensitive observer of domestic life a rare focus for a 17th-century artist.

What to Look For: Many of Vermeers works fill the canvas with evocative details that widen the scope of the paintings. In Young Woman With a Water Pitcher, look for the beautiful Turkish carpet on the table. Notice how the light streaming through the window is muted or flaring across the picture.

Nearby: A few steps away, in Galleries 634 and 637, you can dive deep into works by two other titans of Dutch painting: Rembrandt and Frans Hals.
