Unfortunately this came at a time when they were more concerned aboutselling themselves to Gibraltar Business Capital than keepingBrushstrokes Fine Art operational. As a result they allowed theBrushstrokesDirect.com and BrushstrokesArt.com domains toexpire and everything was shut down.

Greenfield Commercial Credit was sold to Gibraltar Business Capital inMarch 2012.

A Look At What Is Being Collected Among The Collections

Every museum gift shop has a merchandise category that attracts the most patrons for one reason or another. For Carissa Pfeiffer, buyer at the Asheville Museum of Science in Asheville, N.C., geology products are number one. In fact, they accounted for 26 percent of the stores profit in 2018 and included items such as rock, gem, mineral and fossil specimens. This category mirrors our museums exhibitions and collections, so perhaps budding rock enthusiasts among our visitors are inspired to start their own collections, she said.

Within the geology category, Pfeiffer said the top seller is Break Your Own Geodes from Village Originals, in which kids use a hammer to crack the geodes open. They cost $5 each, so even children on a field trip with limited spending money can afford to purchase one. Velvet bags that customers can fill with their choice of polished rocks, gem bottles and opalite glass with fluorite, which is also known as magic eggs, are also popular.

For Ellen Bragalone, director of retail operations, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the 7,500-square foot gift shops most profitable category is prints and paper. This includes prints in all formats as well as stationery items such as postcards, single notecards and boxed notecards. This is a popular category with customers because we are an art museum and our collection is represented best in our print and paper products, she said. A reproduction of an image makes for a great memento of a visit.

The Blackburn Group Inc Invests In Atelier America Inc

To finance this dramatic change the Blackburn Group Inc. of London,Ontario, Canada invested heavily in Atelier America Inc.

They paid Iguana Studios, New York, one million dollars todevelop a website for Brushstrokes. However they had one significantproblem – they didn’t own the Brushstrokes.com domain.

The first that we knew about any of this was inNovember 1999 when we received an e-mail from William Goldsteinrepresenting a “Canadian art company” interested in buying the rightsto the domain.

Unfortunately they embarked on a lot of deception in the early stagesof negotiation, which of course eroded away any trust. After negotiatingwith them over a four month period we were not able to agree on arealistic price for the Brushstrokes.com domain. They were prepared togo no higher than $150,000 and we were holding out for somewhere between$200-250,000. Had the deal gone ahead Atelier America Inc. could haverecovered this in a matter of weeks once the new business was launched.

In order to move forward with their “Plan B”, Atelier America thenregistered nearly 30 domain names, many in the form ofBrushstrokesSomething.com. The two that most people will be familiarwith were BrushstrokesArt.com and BrushstrokesDirect.com.

In November 2000 Atelier America Inc. went live with theirmillion-dollar website under BrushstrokesArt.com. This was laterswitched to BrushstrokesDirect.com.

What Ever Happened To Brushstrokes

Brushstrokes®

Because of some confusion over domain names, and trademarks that havebeen legally registered in different countries, we receive a lot ofwebsite traffic and communications from people that are not intended forus. We do our best to respond out of courtesy, but at the end of the daythis is not something that we make any money out of.

As you will read below, we have been open to resolving this confusionmany times, but the other parties involved have either handled thesituation badly, or simply not been serious about getting it resolved, ultimately contributing to their own failure.

Brushstrokes Fine Art Inc

Mitchell WineBrushstrokes Fine Art Inc.

Mitch Wine is the son of Harold Wine, Chairman ofWSP International Limited. Both were directors of Brushstrokes FineArt Inc.

Mitch did a remarkably good job of rebuilding the company. Under hisleadership Brushstrokes Fine Art Inc. signed a major contract with theIKEA retail chain, and they ran a “photo to painting” process throughthe Michael’s Arts and Crafts stores throughout North America, and viathe QVC TV channel.

Unfortunately they still did not have the Brushstrokes.com domain, andwe were getting traffic that should’ve been going to them.

Rather than approaching us openly and directly, our first contact camein 2004 from Grant Weltman of WSP International,“a marketing company in Birmingham Alabama”. He offered us $5000 forthe Brushstrokes.com domain, which of course we turned down. Then in2005 we were approached by Mitch Wine “of WSP International”, tryingagain to see if we were interested in selling. Through all of this there was no mention of theirconnection to Brushstrokes Fine Art Inc. Had Mitch Wine approached usopenly from the beginning and made a realistic offer a deal would’vebeen reached.

Thus began an annual attempt for Brushstrokes Fine Art Inc. to try toget the Brushstrokes.com domain. It always came around the time oftheir Christmas sales push, usually shortly after Christmas when theyreviewed their sales figures.

What Was Brushstrokes

Brushstrokes®

Many people know of Brushstrokes® as a method ofreproducing the three dimensional texture of a painting, showing both thecolor and the detail of the individual brushstrokes present in the original.

One such method was developed in Canada in the 1990s. In the days before3D printing it was a revolutionary method of reproducing fine art.

Where To Now

The Gift of Art

now a void for this type of product

Digital Design Ltd. is already exploring methods of art reproductionusing laser scanning and 3D printing technology.

Unlike the previous method where the 3D texture on the finalreproductions had absolutely no connection to the brushstrokesof the original artist, but rather those of an in-house artistcreating the mold, our method will be a 100% faithfulreproduction of the original artist’s work.

In addition we will solve the number one complaint from art buyersworldwide:

From within the Brushstrokes.com website customers are taken througha number of steps to:

  • choose the painting
  • select from a range of border styles and mounting options
  • select the frame
  • Once they are happy with their selections they order the product, andit is printed in one piece – painting, border, and frame by a3D printer and shipped to them.

As Digital Design Ltd. is an electronic and software engineeringcompany we are ideally placed to build the custom equipment and softwarethat runs the entire production line – from the website all the way through toshipping.

We are currently looking for investors so we can move the developmentat a faster pace. If you would like to open up a discussion with us aboutthis, you can e-mail:
