A private bus and a guide will pick you up at your hotel and take you to the Salvador Dalà Museum in Figueres. Salvador Dalà was born in Figueres and designed the museum himself, creating what is described as the worldâs biggest surrealist object. The museum holds a spectacular collection of DalÃs works of art dating from different periods of DalÃâs enormous artistic production.

The art collection contains both paintings, drawings, sculptures, installations, etc. Among the most famous works are paintings like The Smiling Venus , Girl from Figueres , Galarina , Soft Self Portrait with Grilled Bacon and Nude Gala Looking at the Sea who at 18 Metres distance looks like the President Lincoln .

You will have a guided tour in the museum but also time on your own to explore this extraordinary museum. After the visit, there will be time to have a coffee while enjoying the city life of Figueres in one of its many cafées, look at the local shops or walk the city’s rambla.

Atmospheric Sweet Books Shop

I love to visit bookshops with a character when I travel and Sweet Books is definitely one of those. The bookstore specializes in second-hand books and discontinued books. The owners combine the love for books as beautiful objects in their own right, with love that is even sweeter because at the bookstore you can also buy sweets.Address: Carrer de les Ferreries Velles 14. After enjoying the atmosphere of the Sweet Books, head to the Onyar river to be carried away by the views of colourful houses on the river bank and also admire the bridges crossing the Onyar river. Perhaps the most famous of them is Peixateries Velles Bridge, also known as

The Dal Theatre And Museum

Imagine attending a theatre as a young boy, later showing your first art exhibition there, converting the theatre into your own museum in 1974, and finally being buried in a crypt under the stage.

That was the force that was Salvador Dalí.

The theatre turned museum that youll visit was actually destroyed by fire during the Spanish Civil War. It was then that Dalí chose to house the largest collection of his works there saying:

I want my museum to be a single block, a great surrealist object where the people who come to see it will leave with the sensation of having had a theatrical dream.

Its now the largest surrealist object in the world and one of the top day trips from Barcelona.

Where Is Figueres Spain

Figueres Spain is in the province of Girona in Catalonia Spain. Its about 137 km away from Barcelona . Its also about 50 minutes passed Girona, the city, which is a must visit from Barcelona!

Figueres Spain has easy day trip potential from both Barcelona and the South of France and you dont really need to spend any longer in this Spanish city than one day. Figueres is actually closer to the South of France than it is to Barcelona. This means that it actually has a very strong French speaking community in Figueres.

Its also in the Catalonian region in Spain which means they speak primarily Catalan over Spanish.

Tailor This Tour To Your Unique Needs

This Dali Girona tour is our best-selling full day out of town . So anyone wanting to see the top sites near Barcelona should do both tours, or at least one of them.

The Dali Museum and Girona tour is perfect for those interested in museums and art , but also enjoy strolling around historical towns .

If you are traveling with kids, this day tour can child-friendly if we focus more on the exploration of the sites than the academic part. Girona offers plenty of opportunities to explore, and legends and cool stories to listen to. But take into account that many Dali works have a strong sexual component: depending on the maturity of your kids, your guide will chose to share it discreetly with the adults only, adapt it for the kids, or skip it totally. If your kids arent much into museums or art, you might want to consider skipping the Dali Museum and going to the beach after Girona instead.

If you have walking issues or use a wheelchair, please note that in the Dali Museum there are short sections of steps and no elevator, and that in Girona there are also stairs and uphill cobblestone streets . If you dont have much stamina, you might want to take a shorter tour and visit only the Dali Museum or only Girona.

If you are a Salvador Dali fan, you can check here all our Dali Museum tours from Barcelona.

La Farinera Teixidor Building

La Farinera Teixidor is one of Girona’s most representative modernist buildings. Industrialist Alfons Teixidor commissioned its construction from architect Rafael Masó, asking for it to include: a family home, a suite of offices, and industrial warehouses to be used as a flour mill and for storage. It might seem strange to find a factory right in the middle of the city, but in 1910, when it was built, it was actually located in the town of Santa Eugènia de Ter. The purpose of the building can be seen from the outside, thanks to its white roof and dome: all snowy! I want it to really be the house of flour, said Masó. The building, which has influences ranging from Gaudi and Charles Rennie Mackintosh to the Vienna Secession, is currently the headquarters of Catalan newspaper El Punt Avui.At least in winter time, trains from Girona to Figueres depart just once an hour, so its better to check departure times in advance to make sure you leave Girona before 4 p.m. and have enough time to see all that the stunning Dali Theatre Museum has to offer. In the summertime, it is very advisable to book your museum ticket in advance. So after a half an hour train trip you are in Figueres. Take a fifteen-minute well-signposted walk to the Museum.

Need A Place To Stay Figueres Hotel Recommendations

I didnt stay overnight in Figueres, we went back to Barcelona. But if youre looking to enjoy some of the nightlife, book a place to stay the night in Figueres Spain. Here are some recommendations I found in the city centre.

Apartment With Views & Location: The Museum Apartments is next door to the Dali Museum it doesnt get better than that! You can book a room with either a private terrace, patio, or balcony or a view! This is also ideal if youre travelling with family or friends, rooms can sleep up to 7 people! See room rates & availability.
