Amid these works contemporary art from the collection also are installed, in keeping with the spirit of our founding patron, Roy. R. Neuberger, who was committed to supporting the work of living artists, particularly during the formative years of their careers. New York Transit Museum

Dating back to 1904, New York Citys robust transportation system is one of the busiest and oldest in the world. Thankfully, visitors can take a walk down memory lane and explore vintage subway cars parked in a decommissioned subway station.

Located in Brooklyn, the New York Transit Museum is one of the best museums in NYC for kids. The museum covers a century of subway history and each car displays era-appropriate ads, which makes for some fun age-appropriate humor.

Visitors are able to explore the inside of vintage cars, some dating back to 1903, sit inside the drivers cabin and admire vintage walk signs and transit furniture. Make sure to study the impressive photographs that highlight the evolution of the subway system, youll be hooked.

Finally, swing by the gift shop before heading out, its well curated and has tons of fun transit inspired souvenirs.

Fun fact: Have you heard of the Pizza Principle? Its an economic concept that argues the price of subway ride and a slice of pizza should always remain relatively equal. The price of both subway rides and pizza has been rising in tandem in NYC for more than 50 years!

If Little Owl Was A Friends Episode It Would Probably Be The One Where You Walked Right Past The Real

friends new york city locations places for fans to visit in nyc

When David Schwimmer walked into the beloved neighborhood restaurant at the corner of Bedford Street and Grove Street and sat down in the sidewalk-facing window, he ignored warnings that this may not be the best place for him to dine. Perhaps the absence of Gunther brewing coffee behind the counter or Monica, Phoebe, and Rachel chatting on an orange couch helped the New York City-based actor, who played Ross on Friends for 10 consecutive seasons, forget he was seated at one of the city’s most famous intersections.

But when the tourists started pouring in, as they do every single day, selfie sticks and DSLR lenses in tow, to snap pictures of what might be the world’s most famous fire escape the one shown as the Friends theme song plays at the beginning of every episode the actor who spent a decade portraying America’s favorite fictional paleontologist flipped the brim of his hat down and moved to a more discreet table. It was a total Ross move.

While Central Perk exists solely on a Los Angeles soundstage, the space that would house the corner-side café below the building where Monica, Rachel, Chandler, and Joey lived is very much real.

At its essence, Little Owl embodies the spirit of Central Perk: Anyone and everyone can visit, scarf down a bowl of seafood chowder or linger over a tender lamb shank, and feel at home.

Nicols De Jess: A Mexican Artist For Global Justice

Nicolás De Jesús: A Mexican Artist for Global Justice explores the work and artistic career of contemporary Mexican artist Nicolás De Jesús. Raised in a Nahua village in Guerrero, Mexico, De Jesús is well-known for his etchings on amatea bark paper used in Pre-Columbian times to paint manuscriptsfeaturing ironical skeleton-characters celebrating, walking the streets, crossing borders, or fighting for justice. Picking up on the calavera tradition around the Day of the Dead celebrations held every November 1st and 2nd, these works enter the register of the political satire initiated by José Guadalupe Posada , a skillful etcher and caricaturist who portrayed with laughter and wit the abuses of the Porfirio regime and the Mexican aristocracy on the eve of the Mexican Revolution .

The exhibition showcases some of the artists most iconic graphic work and powerful political street banners alongside an astonishing series of recent, monumental, colorful paintings in which De Jesús addresses crises specific to the United States, including the storming of the US Capitol, the repression faced by migrants and African Americans, and the disasters of COVID 19. Covering three decades of the artists career, this exhibition offers a challenge to the conventional definition of contemporary art. The exhibition is accompanied by an illustrated catalogue published in conjunction with HIRMER publishers.
