What Day Is The Houston Art Museum Free

Its very simple to understand. All visitors to the MFAH are completely free of charge on Thursday, thanks to Shell Oil Company. Only tickets are permitted for certain exhibitions. The Museum is open until 9 p.m. on Thursdays, and it is also open late that night. After work, you can bring the entire posse for free.

The Menil Collection Houston

The Menil Collection in Neartown Houston is both a private art collection as well as the museum itself that houses thousands of paintings, prints, drawings, sculptures, photographs, rare books and more. The Quadrangle And The Ft Sam Houston Museum

The Quadrangle is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on weekends and federal holidays, its open from noon to 6:00 p.m. The Ft. Sam Museum is located inside the historic Quadrangle on Liscum Road. Museum hours are 10:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m., Tuesday thru Friday and 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays. Visitors without a valid government should use the Walters Street gate off of IH-35. Visitors must obtain a pass by stopping in the Visitor Control Center and presenting a form of identification. Admission to both is free.

As of this posting, the museum remains closed due to COVID concerns.

Cool Off At The Waterwall

The Gerald D. Hines Waterwall Park is an oasis in Uptown Houston. Truly, pictures dont do justice to this iconic fountain that pumps 11,000 gallons of water over the inner and outer semicircular walls every 3.5 hours.

Once you pass through the Scanae Frons, a limestone and brick portal, youll only hear water, no street noise. A cool mist is especially welcome.

There are benches shaded by live oak trees along the pathways leading to the fountain.

Pro Tip: The Waterwall Park opens at 8 a.m. and is free. Street parking is limited but there is a parking garage half a block away.

Local Museums Offer Free Admission To Military Families This Summer

Around 2,000 museums nationwide, including 10 in Greater Houston, will provide free admission to active-duty U.S. military personnel and their families through the Blue Star Museums program.

An initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, and the Department of Defense, the program runs through the summer this year, from Saturday, May 21 through Monday, September 5 .

Blue Star Museums is an effort to improve the quality of life for active-duty military families, especially focusing on the approximately two million children who have had at least one parent deployed since 2001.

Blue Star Museums was created to show support for military families who have faced multiple deployments and the challenges of reintegration. This program offers these families a chance to visit museums this summer when many will have limited resources and limited time to be together.

Free Museum Days In Houston: When And How To Visit

HOUSTON – Houstons museums offer a chance to explore a world of art, culture, science and history without ever leaving the city.

Some of the museums are free to visit every day, while others offer free admission a few times a month.

If you are planning a free visit, there are some things you should know.

Some museums that offer free general admission on certain days may still require paid tickets for special exhibitions. Don’t forget to factor in parking costs as well.
