Frederick Douglass Maritime Museum Wedding

A Wedding To Remember

Charlene Drew Jarvis, her Father, and Family at the Beach

My cousin chose this venue for a wedding. It was perfect. The interior was awesome and the view of the harbor added to the beauty of Baltimore.

This is excellent to visit if you are interested in African-American history, Maritime History, industrial history,, or have a general interest in history. I learned a lot. It is worth the admission price.

A small but compact museum on the lives of Frederick Douglass and Isaac Myers, two African-American men who lived and worked in Baltimore . Information on slavery and African-American life and experiences during the 1800s information on the two men’s life, upbringing, and significance information on shipbuilding. Small but well-reasoned exhibits and explanation. At the intersection of Bond and Thames Streets in Fells Point. The museum is on the second floor of the building.

When he lived in Baltimore he worked on boats doing caulking. The museum focuses on this time and what the boat building industry was like at the time. A interesting look at the times and part of his life. They are refurbishing an old boat on the marine railway lift, the workers were good about answering questions. As to see the shipwright’s shop on the ground level.

Frederick Douglass Maritime Museum Wedding By Tpoz Photography

Head over heels for this classic Frederick Douglass Maritime Museum Wedding by tPoz Photography that is just dripping with chandeliers! Teri of tPoz Photography tells us, From the Vivienne Westwood gown, to the Oscar de la Renta heels, Zoey+Johns Frederick Douglass Maritime Museum Wedding was a fashionistas delight! Wedding prep began at the Baltimore Waterfront Marriott, before heading over to Frederick Douglass-Isaac Myers Maritime Park and Museum for the couples First Look, waterfront ceremony, and rockin reception. Margo from Bright Occasions kept the day running smoothly, DJ Karl Hunt brought the party to the dance floor, and Class Act Catering treated guests to a culinary masterpiece. Revolution Event Design installed a dramatic chandelier setup over the head table which was superbly glam, and matched the wedding style perfectly. Congrats Zoey+John!

Fells Point Baltimore Maritime Museum Wedding

This lovely waterfront Baltimore Maritime Museum wedding this past summer was so much fun to photograph! I was hired by Sarah of Living Radiant Photography as a second photographer to capture Caitlin and Toms day. The couple got ready at Admiral Fell Inn with a ceremony in Catonsville, and later a reception at Frederick Douglass-Isaac Myers Maritime Museum. The couple chose classic navy and maroon/burgundy for their wedding party with gold and pink accents. We enjoyed a few portraits with the couple outside St. Hildas church before driving over to the waterfront.

Part of their day was spent on the water in Baltimores Inner Harbor with guests. Copper Kitchen catering served mini burgers and crab cakes during cocktail hour, and the guests gobbled them up! Cait and Tom then hopped on an electric scooter for some action portraits with Sarah, and the party was just getting started. Before the reception began, we met the wonderful band, Whats Next, a very talented group of individuals who know how to have a good time! Enjoy my favorite images from Caitlin and Toms day below.

I said it in an Instagram post today and it bears repeating.take a gal that is already horrible about posting to social media and blogging, throw in a global pandemic, and youve got somebody that ends up not posting a single thing for half of an entire year. Its not good. Not good at all. But I wanted everyone to know that Ive still been photographing lots of awesome people and pretty things and its about time I make at least one new post. Hopefully a lot more will follow, but ya know, its still 2020 so all bets are off.Anyhoo.this goooorgeous Frederick Douglass Maritime Museum wedding was from back in 2019 . Back when weddings were normal and easier and not filled with fear. This one was filled with stops for Chick-fil-A, a post-ceremony ride around the Inner Harbor on the amazing oystering skipjack Sigsbee, a choreographed first dance around the cool industrial interior of the Frederick Douglass Maritime Museum, nighttime portraits in front of the Dominos Sugar sign, and a fun sparkler send-off. Enjoy all the pretty!

Before A Hospital A Sanitarium

Larrisa + Justin

Even before its genesis as Percy Jones, the site and its buildings had rich layers of use and history. In 1866, the Seventh Day Adventists established the Western Health Reform Institute in a cottage on the site to promote their principles of preventative medicine and healthful nutrition. In 1876, Dr. John Harvey Kellogg became its director, renaming the facility the Battle Creek Sanitarium and expanding it to include a central building, a hospital, and other cottages. In 1902, a fire destroyed the sanitarium. An elegant, six-story Italian Renaissance style building soon rose in its place, completed in 1903. In 1928, the sanitarium was enlarged with a fifteen-story tower addition containing more than 265 hotel-like guest rooms and suites, most of which had private bathrooms. This expansive health and wellness complex on 30 acres could accommodate almost 1,300 guests. After the economy crashed in 1929, business declined. By 1933, the sanitarium went into receivership, and the Great Depression that followed forced the institution to sell assets to help pay its debt. The 1903 sanitarium building. / THF620117The sanitarium with its 1928 fifteen-story tower addition. / THF620119

Essie & Tims Frederick Douglass Isaac Myers Maritime Museum wedding was truly so special watching them get married just blocks from where they live in Fells point. It was a spring day in summer making for a perfect outdoor ceremony on the Patapsco River near Bond Street Wharf! Essie & Tim got ready at the Admiral Fells Inn and then met in the middle for their first look on Bond Street Wharf. As Essie walked up to Tim it become incredibly clear their connection and how meaningful every spot they chose was to them. They run together along the Baltimore harbor right where we stood for their wedding. Everything came together so beautifully.

I love how Tim surprised Essie for their proposal From Essies viewpoint:

Preparing For The Big Day

Amanda revealed her final look to her bridesmaids and flower girls and they loved it! She was radiant with flawless hair and make up and beautiful jewelry to compliment her lookboth fun and vibrant while elegant and timeless. Amanda also took the time to sit down and read a special private letter from Kyle before their day really started to move.

Once Amandas bridesmaids and mother helped her get her dress buttoned and her lovely Badgley Mischkas on, we took Amanda to the fifth floor terrace for some bridal portraits outside. The sky was cloudy but drywhich seems to be a rare thing this year at weddings. We were grateful for such pleasant weather and Amanda was beaming with excitement! Her dress was the perfect dress for some swooshing as well. And we could see the tip top of the Inner Harbor skyline.

While Amanda was preparing for the day, Kyle was also preparing with his groomsmen. After dressing in their suits with what must be my favorite ties of the year, Kyle opened a special gift from Amanda as well. He was happy to don a new MVMT watch. Adrianne photographed his handsome portraits on the dock outside of the hotel.

The Battle of Fort Pulaski was fought April 1011, 1862, during the American Civil War. Union forces on Tybee Island and naval operations conducted a 112-day siege, then captured the Confederate-held Fort Pulaski after a 30-hour bombardment. The battle is important for innovative use of rifled guns which made existing coastal defenses obsolete. The Union initiated large scale amphibious operations under fire.

The fort’s surrender strategically closed Savannah as a port. The Union extended its blockade and aids to navigation down the Atlantic coast, then redeployed most of its 10,000 troops. The Confederate army-navy defense blocked Federal advance for over three months, secured the city, and prevented any subsequent Union advance from seaward during the war. Coastal rail connections were extended to blockaded Charleston, South Carolina.
