Fort Worth Museum Of Science And History
Dedicated to lifelong learning and anchored by rich collections, the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History engages the community through creative, vibrant programs and interactive exhibits. The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History houses a variety of traveling and permanent exhibitions. Permanent exhibits include DinoLabs & DinoDig, Energy Blast, the Fort Worth Childrens Museum and the Cattle Raisers Museum. Innovation Studios a five glass-walled studio that houses Inventor, Doodler, Designer, Imaginer and Exploreris where imagination, curiosity and creativity are encouraged and nurtured. The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History is also home to the Noble Planetarium and the Omni Theater, which is currently under renovation.

The Sixth Floor Museum At Dealey Plaza
Located in the former Texas School Book Depository, the museum features a permanent historical exhibition that chronicles the life, death, and legacy of President John F. Kennedy. On display are over 400 photographs, videos, artifacts, and preserved areas, including the snipers perch where evidence showed that shots were fired at President Kennedy from the sixth floor. Temporary exhibits are offered in the seventh floor gallery. Explore history through one of the worlds most significant repositories of visual, audio, documentary, and artifactual documentation related to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The museum is a continually growing, multifaceted collection of more than 40,000 items. Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge
The Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge is a 3,621 acre Refuge comprised of forests, prairies, and wetlands. Over 20 miles of trails guide you through these habitats and allow you to see native wildlife and plants. The West Fork of the Trinity River winds through the Refuge offering scenic paddling opportunities. Outdoor recreation and education programs are offered year round. Best practices in land management are performed in order to maintain and improve the health of the land. The FWNC& R is a registered National Landmark through the Department of the Interior and a recipient of the Outstanding Lone Star Land Steward Award from the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department.

Fort Worth Aviation Museum
The FortWorth Aviation Museum is home to the most touchable warbirds in Texas. Our collection of thirty-one aircraft surround our museum building and are available for close inspection by our visitors. Some are open for even closer inspection. Our museum houses not only exhibits telling the stories of aviation history in North Texas but also has interactive activities, including flight simulators and a T-38 Talon cockpit. Families can enjoy guided tours by our knowledgeable docents who might even share their personal experiences with the aircraft. Guests can watch our restoration crews work on planes while they are having fun in our picnic area. Our museum store is always a fun place for youngsters too. We also offer free wifi to our visitors during their stay. With the airplanes, flight simulators, and interactive activities, we are always a fun place for families to visit and learn about the role of aviation history in North Texas.
National Cowgirl Museum & Hall Of Fame
Women of the American West are honored here. Not only those who have lived and worked on ranches or who have sat on a horse in a rodeo arena, but also the women who led an expedition to the Pacific Ocean, stood on a stage, sat at an easel, stood before a classroom, sat to put words on paper, aimed a rifle and hit the bulls eye, and sat on the highest court in the land. All of these women are celebrated for their spirit and determination at the museum.
With more than 5,000 artifacts and information on over 400 women, the museum is located in Fort Worths Cultural District next to the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. The Marty Leonard Community Chapel
E. Fay Jones design draws the eye and heart upward in this interfaith chapel. It is an architecturally significant building that reflects the influence of Jones study with Frank Lloyd Wright and Bruce Goff. It is constructed mainly from Philippine mahogany stained a lighter color, glass, and brick. It is used by the youths and families served by Lena Pope Home, as well as for weddings, musical and cultural events, meetings, etc. Tours are available by appointment only. FORT WORTH, Texas Fun is always in season in Dallas-Fort Worth, even when the weather doesnt cooperate. If its too chilly or rainy to be outside, families can find plenty of North Texas options for indoor fun particularly if they want to learn something, too.
From museums and aquariums to play places and an indoor water park, here are more than a dozen places to entertain children inside.
Cavanaugh Flight Museum
Families can tour displays of historic and military aircraft on their own or through a guided tour. The museum has planes and other vehicles, including a Sherman tank, from World Wars I and II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

Childrens Aquarium
Designed with kids in mind, this aquarium offers eye-level interactive zones and six exhibit areas of aquatic life. Kids can enjoy feeding the stingrays food is available for $2 per two pieces. Built in 1936 for the Texas Centennial in Fair Park, the aquarium received an $8 million renovation in 2010.

Fort Worth Water Gardens
Built in 1974, Philip Johnson and John Burgees design for the Fort Worth Water Garden was to be a cooling oasis in the concrete jungle. The main elements of the design are three pools of water: the meditation pool the aerating pool and the active pool where water runs over layers of rocks and steps to a small pool 38 feet below. Special lighting makes the night sparkle.
Numerous plants and trees also decorate the Water Gardens. The site was used as the backdrop for some scenes from the film Logans Run in 1976. National Multicultural Western Heritage Museum
Filling in the gaps of history is easy to do at the National Multicultural Western Heritage Museum. Through artifacts, artwork, historical records, and current events, this collection offers a true perspective and a fuller, richer cultural view of the people and activities that contributed to the building of the historical American West. The mission of the National Multicultural Western Heritage Museum is to offer the visitor a complete recognition of this historical process.
The museum has been committed to its vision of giving recognition to the outstanding pioneers who played a role in settling the early American western frontier since its founding in 2001 by Jim and Gloria Austin. The museums Hall of Fame also acknowledges individuals that have contributed to the western culture and the tradition who still play a part in keeping this important piece of American history alive. What Is There To Do
There is SO much to see and do in the Forth Worth Museum of Science and History, we almost don’t know where to start!
Did you know that there are museums WITHIN a museum!
You see, the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History actually began as a small children’s museum all the way back in 1941 . So, within the museum itself is a whole other museum – the Fort Worth Children’s Museum! This area is JUST for those kids aged up to 8 years, where they can play with activities perfectly suited for them!
THEN there is the Cattle Raisers Museum – another “museum within a museum”! This 10,000 square foot exhibition is all about preserving and celebrating that vital Texas industry of cattle. Kids can look back all the way to the 1850s and begin the journey of the cattle industry right to the present day. It’s pretty eye opening!
Then, of course, there is everything else to see in the main museum. There are permanent exhibits which you can keep going back to – such as the DinoLabs and Energy Blast. DinoLabs bring kids the amazing story of the North Texas dinosaurs, with full dinosaur skeletons and a dig site which replicates an actual field site where dinosaurs are found!
Then kids can blast their way through Energy Blast – where interactive exhibits and learning stations allow them to explore the world of energy. It’s pretty amazing what they will learn!

John Wayne: An American Experience
Fort Worth was deemed the perfect place to honor Waynes iconic marriage of rugged western sensibility to the glamour of the silver screen. Fort Worth Childrens Museum

In 1945, two rooms at De Zavala Elementary School in the Fairmount neighborhood of Fort Worth welcomed the collections of the Fort Worth Childrens Museum. Although the museum had been established in 1939 by the local council of the League of Administrative Women in Education, these two classrooms were the institutions very first home.
Two years later, the museum moved into a larger space on Summit Avenue: the R. E. Harding House. The museum flourished at this location, and the The Ladies Auxiliary of the Fort Worth Childrens Museum and the Frisky and Blossom Club, which was the predecessor of the renowned Museum School. The institution saw so much success that much more space was needed if it wanted to keep up with demand: in 1952, ground broke at the museums current location on Montgomery Street.

Education is at the backbone of the Museum of Science and History. Classes for preschoolers, elementary age children, and homeschool children are offered year-round, and have been a part of the museums services since its early years. Today, the institution provides over 200,000 hours of education in areas of science and social studies to Texas students each year. A brochure for the 1973-1974 museum school year is pictured.
