Visit El Paso is responsible for destination marketing for the City of El Paso and includes Convention Development and Meeting Planning Services El Paso Film & Creative Industries Commission Tourism Development to include management of two Visitor Information Centers, as well as advertising and media relations. El Paso Live is responsible for venue and event management for City of El Paso-owned venues: Judson F. Williams Convention Center, Abraham Chavez Theatre, Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Centre, and McKelligon Canyon Amphitheatre. Each operating division is represented as a brand with its own website and social media presence.

Working To Increase Opportunities To Enjoy Engage And Access The Arts In El Paso
The Museum and Cultural Affairs Division is tasked to assist in developing a world-class arts community in El Paso, Texas. To accomplish this, the department established the Museums Division and the Cultural Affairs Division. The Museums Division is comprised of the El Paso Museum of Art, the El Paso Museum of Archaeology and the El Paso Museum of History, each dedicated to providing exhibitions and educational activities that recognize the region’s mutli-cultural heritage. The Cultural Affairs Division implements funding programs, public art programs, cultural tourism initiatives and performing/visual arts events that provide a variety of opportunities to engage in arts and cultural activities.
El Paso Museum Of Art
Located in El Pasos historic Turney Mansion, the International Museum of Art has a permanent collection of art from the region, Europe, and Africa, along with two changing galleries. The Red Room Galleries on the lower level are devoted solely to the work of artists living in the greater El Paso/Southwest Region, and other collections include the Western Art Gallery, the Kolliker Gallery , the African Art Gallery, and the Mexican Revolution Gallery, which highlights the revolution and its impact on regional culture.

Chicano Power A Force For Change & Progress In El Paso

This exhibition focuses on the rise of the Chicano Civil Rights Movement in El Paso, Texas. From anti-discrimination activism encompassing farmworkers and labor rights, to anti-war movements wrapped in cultura, the Chicano Civil Rights Movement in El Paso, Texas is the story of how youth along with neighborhood mentors and families fought to transform social and systemic inequities into improved conditions. Chicano Power! retraces collective and individual memories rooted in El Paso but also reinforced in acts of solidarity with other Chicano and global communities who fought for the equity all.
This program is made possible in part by a grant from Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Centennial Museum And Chihuahuan Desert Gardens

The first museum in El Paso, the Centennial Museum was created during the 1936 Texas Centennial. Located on the University of Texas at El Paso campus , this historic museum houses permanent exhibits that focus on the natural and cultural history of the Chihuahuan Desert, the largest desert in North America. Temporary exhibits are related to border life and culture. The Chihuahuan Desert Gardens were established in 1999 and are certified as a Texas Wildscape sitevisitors can see more than 800 species of plants here.
El Paso Holocaust Museum & Study Center

The El Paso Holocaust Museum & Study Center is the only fully bilingual Holocaust museum in the U.S. and its mission is to teach the history of the Holocaust, in order to combat prejudice and intolerance everywhere. Holocaust survivor and El Paso resident Henry Kellen decided to open the museum in 1984 to share his experiences, following a surge of Holocaust denial in the mainstream media during the 1980s. Exhibits trace the rise of the Third Reich, the mass deportation of millions of Germans and European citizens to concentration camps and ghettos, and the liberation of the camps by Allied forces. The museum also hosts events throughout the year to engage with the community, like film screenings, the annual Tour de Tolerance bike race, and more.

The El Paso Museum of History is a museum located in downtown El Paso, Texas which presents information about past 400 years of history in the United States/Mexico border region. The museum has over 16,000 feet of exhibition space. Galleries in the museum feature traveling exhibitions as well as several permanent exhibitions. The museum also presents special programs and has a permanent digital touchscreen wall and a traveling wall. The museum is run by the City of El Paso.
Stanlee & Gerald Rubin Center For The Visual Arts

Another gem on the University of Texas campus, the Rubin Center presents exhibitions of internationally recognized contemporary art to the geographically isolated region of El Paso, all of which are meant to inspire dialogue and critical thinking and deepen public appreciation of contemporary art. Past exhibitions include the Border Tuner, an interactive public art installation across the U.S.-Mexico border Iconográfica Oaxaca, an exhibition of contemporary art from Oaxaca and, Not-So-Lone Star Studio, which connected 37 Texas artists working in contemporary jewelry and metalsmithing. The Rubin also serves as a learning site for students of the university and local emerging artists.

Los Portales Museum And Information Center
Housed in an 1850s-era territorial style building in El Pasos Mission Valley, the Los Portales Museum and Information Center has exhibits that focus on the historical legacies of San Elizario. The city was the landing spot of Spanish conquistador Juan de Onate and was the original county seat of El Paso. This museum documents the city’s history of Spanish colonization and the early days of El Paso.
Pasos Urbanos: A Photographic Narrative Of Borderlands Sunrise And Sunset

There is nothing more pleasing and rewarding than witnessing the sunrise in the morning and sunset inthe evening behind the desert landscape or urban city life. Sunrises and sunsets are magical, invigorating, and give us a unique sense of belonging all under the same sky. They represent awakenings, beginnings, and end of journeys through pearly pinks, oranges, and vibrant violet colors in the skies. Pasos Urbanos: A Photographic Narrative of Borderlands Sunrise And Sunset exemplifies and captures photographic stories of people and places through the familiar illuminatinggolden hour.

Museum Of History Honors El Paso Entrepreneurs
Ernesto and Nora Herrera release the banner at the unveiling Thursday.
The El Paso Museum of History recognized longtime supporters Nora and Ernesto Herrera with the unveiling of the Nora and Ernesto Herrera Lobby on Thursday.
Liz Uribe Sinclair, chair of the El Paso Museum of History Foundation, and Erica Marin, El Paso Museum of History director and foundation board member, presented the honor to the husband-and-wife duo.
The couple has pledged $100,000 to the museum as part of a campaign to name spaces throughout the facility.
The Herreras have previously supported the Polo Real, a signature fundraiser for the El Paso Museum of History Foundation. The Herreras also have a personal interest in history, said Rick Isaias, lead public affairs coordinator for the city of El Paso.
Ernesto is president of financial management servicer the Herrera Group, and Nora owns The Manor at Ten Eleven, a historic Trost & Trost mansion she transformed into a private event venue.

Our installation highlights the development of the Manhattan Heights community through Crockett Elementary School, St. Albans Episcopal Church, Memorial Park, and more.

Away From Home: American Indian Boarding School Stories
Beginning in the 1870s, the US government attempted to educate and assimilate American Indians into civilized society by placing childrenof all ages, from thousands of homes and hundreds of diverse tribesin distant, residential boarding schools. Many were forcibly taken from their families and communities and stripped of all signs of Indianness, even forbidden to speak their own language amongst themselves. Up until the 1930s, students were trained for domestic work and trade in a highly regimented environment. Many children went years without familial contact, and these events had a lasting, generational impact. “Away from Home: American Indian Boarding School Stories” explores off-reservation boarding schools in a kaleidoscope of voices.
NOTE: “Away from Home” contains stories of resilience and revitalization, agency and honor. Please be aware that it also contains descriptions of human indignities and hardships and terms that reflect historically racist perspectives and language from past eras. In speaking the truth about acts of seemingly unfathomable violence and suffering in the lives of Native peoples, this exhibition is advised for more mature audience members, grades eight to adult.

Visit The El Paso Museum Of History
The El Paso Museum of History was established in 1974 as the Cavalry Museum, but quickly filled a scope and purpose beyond its title by functioning as a local history museum. In 1980 the name of the museum was officially changed to the El Paso Museum of History. In 2000, El Paso citizens, poised to explore and celebrate its place in Texas history, passed a bond election approving $6.5 million to construct a new two-story 44,000 sq. ft. Museum of History located in downtowns El Pasos Arts District.
Staff and collections moved into the new building in early 2007 with a public dedication on June 16, 2007. The El Paso Museum of History serves the largest continuous border metroplex in North America.

What Is Digie
DIGIE stands for Digital Information Gateway In El Paso.
DIGIE is a vast collection of images and videos exploring El Pasos past and present. It examines its people and its many cultures on giant 3-D touch-sensitive TV screens at the Museum of History and on a mobile Mini-Digie as well. Our Mini-Digie will be transported to classrooms, malls, community centers and other locations where citizens gather so everyone has the opportunity to experience and be included in El Pasos digital history.
The collection of images that powers DIGIE can also be browsed on this website. Most importantly, you can upload your own collection of images telling your own life story or your family history for all to share.
