Why Is The Walt Disney Family Museum In San Francisco

Walt Disney Family Museum Tour! | San Francisco California

Diane, the daughter of Walter Elias Disney, and her husband Ron Miller moved to San Francisco in the eighties and together they came up with the idea of building the museum. Diane wanted to pay tribute to her father, but because a book didnt seem enough, she created the Walt Disney Foundation with her family in 1995. In 2001, she rented a warehouse in the former San Francisco Presidio to create a small gallery. She soon realized that she needed a much larger space, so she transformed some buildings on Montgomery Street also within the Presidio, which has since become part of the protected parks and city areas into a museum with a beautiful view of the Golden Gate Bridge. The museum opened to the public on October 1, 2013.

How Much Time Do You Need To Visit The Walt Disney Museum In San Francisco

This will depend a lot on how much you want to see inside. Whenever there are special events or temporary exhibits, I recommend staying a little longer to see and appreciate them. If there are movie screenings, the time can be extended even more, depending on the duration of these screenings.

Generally a quick visit to the museum can take between an hour and a half and two hours, but if you want to stay a little longer to admire each of the works inside, or if you want to stop by the gift store or the museum cafe, this visit can be extended a little longer.

In any case, what I recommend is that if you expect to make an itinerary of things to see and do in San Francisco in two days, take all the time you need to know every space and every corner of the exhibition. It is really worth visiting this one, which is among the best museums in San Francisco.

My Review Of The Disney Museum In San Francisco

I’ve had the chance to visit the Walt Disney Museum in San Francisco numerous times. It’s a great experience and well worth the price.

There was so much I didn’t know about Walt Disney before stepping inside the doors of the museum. As I walked from room to room, I was amazed at the attention to detail they took in pulling it all together.

It’s a great museum for both kids and adults. The first few exhibits might be a bit boring for younger kids, but they will become more engaged as you reach the second floor as this is where you will start to see more of his cartoon creations.

The special exhibits that I’ve had the chance to see have been really amazing too. They both give you an insider’s view on what it really takes to pull a cartoon together. They offer step-by-step details on how each piece is created and, in the end, how they pull it all together.

I love seeing the early works of the cartoons we know and love today. Often, they are so different from the final product. It really shows you a lot about the creative process and the detail it takes to finish a short or a full-length film.

The Walt Disney Museum in San Francisco is the perfect stop for anyone that loves cartoons or the Disney franchise.

Tips For Visiting The Walt Disney Museum In San Francisco

One of the most useful tips I can give you when you visit this museum is that if you go with children, do not let them out of your sight at any time. It is important that before going to the museum you visit the website so that you can find out what new information the museum has to tell you before you go to the museum.

Most of the exhibitions are temporary, so every time you go to the museum you will find something different to see. This is a great advantage, but it also forces you to visit the information about the exhibitions beforehand to find out which ones are active and which ones you will like to see.

It is important that before going to the museum, you reserve your ticket. The influx of people in the place is so high that the tickets usually run out soon, that is why one of the recommendations I give you is that you book well in advance.
