Dr. Seusss birthday is March 2, and the special day often is observed as a day that places importance on learning to read.

The Childrens Discovery Museum of the Golden Crescent will celebrate the famous authors birthday with the Seussical S.T.E.A.M. Fest, sponsored by South Texas Electric Cooperative, from 10 a.m. to noon March 6.

Normally, the celebration is one of the museums largest field trips and one that is especially popular with the children. The trip is taken in downtown Victoria and typically includes second-graders exclusively. However, the pandemic has changed the plan this year.

Its all about celebrating Dr. Seusss birthday, but we cant do it the same way this year, said Doug Donaldson, educational program director for the museum.

For safety reasons, the event will take place at the museum. All ages are invited.

Families can come experience Dr. Seuss paired with S.T.E.A.M. , Donaldson said. Its science wrapped in a Dr. Seuss package.

Local scientists will share hands-on science experiments with groups of families. Local artists will share art, and local musicians will share music.

Expensive But Worth It

Walking in I thought the admission fee was a little high compared to other childrens museums we had gone to since this one was significantly smaller. However we were pleasantly surprised with how much there was to do and how much fun the kids had. We spent a full afternoon there just playing around in different areas of the museum. We would go back again.

I thought 15 dollars for a 2 year old was high. As it was the same price for me. But we spent the entire day there and I feel like we got our money’s worth. There is a lot to do! She loved the toddler class, the paint area, the piano keys, Lego area, circus area, etc. so much to do, too much to list.

This is an excellent place to take kids. They’ve got plenty to keep them interested and it’s a great place to beat the heat! They’ve got attractions to keep most kids busy and happy while learning. It’s mostly geared for kids 12 and under, so my two kids under 5 have a blast every time! The new Storyland exhibit is a great feature along with their permanent exhibits. Definitely a place to enjoy a few hours with your children!
