Children’s Museum Of Acadiana

The CMA is a private, non-profit corporation founded in 1990 with the mission Learning by Doing. The CMA exists to foster a creative environment through hands-on exhibits, programs, and outreach, where children and their families explore and make discoveries that demystify everyday experiences, cultures, and human differences. The CMA serves the toddler to ten years old age group, their families, and teachers.

Annually, the CMA serves over 44,591 children and their caregivers from 37 parishes in Central and South Louisiana through both our interactive exhibits and a wide range of programs including educationally based programming. The CMA works collaboratively with over 27 agencies in South Central Louisiana to promote complimentary missions that benefit children and their families.

As a first museum experience for many children, we want to enhance the lives of those from all socioeconomic backgrounds, as well as to provide an environment which inspires and promotes self-expression and self-esteem while learning respect for others. Central to our philosophy is that a child learns by doing, and the CMA wishes to serve as both a learning resource for families and educators as a development center for exploring new methods of informal education. CMAs exhibits and programs cover a broad range of subjects which challenge a childs mental analytical processes, and encourages imagination, curiosity, questioning, and realism.

What Is There To Do

The Children’s Museum of Acadiana is a hands-on museum designed FOR with kids in mind! This popular Lafayette destination promotes “learning by doing”, so not only do kids have a great time playing, creating, and exploring, but they also are learning and developing at the same time!

All of the exhibits within the Children’s Museum of Acadiana promote the concept of demystifying this “great big world” to smaller kids. Here, they will find kiddie sized versions of everyday places, whether it be the grocery store, the dentist’s office and even cafes, bringing the adult world down to them!

Kids might want to create a masterpiece as an artist, or they might create the latest menu in their own restaurant. What’s also great, is that ALL of the exhibits within the museum also allow kids to participate. They are all interactive, and all encourage experimenting, using their imaginations, and learning!

Future architects can show off their skills in Architect Alley, with toys that they can build with, whether it be an entire fortress or an entire city!

Kids can learn about their bodies and why keeping healthy is so important as they complete x-rays and become a doctor for the day. It’s not just people either! It might be the Healthy Pets Hospital that catches their eye, as they greet guests as they check in for appointments, or checking the chart to see what problems their “pets” might have
