American Association Of Museums
Founded in 1906, the American Association of Museums is dedicated to promoting excellence within the museum community. Through advocacy, professional education, information exchange, accreditation, and guidance on current professional standards of performance, AAM assists museum staff, boards and volunteers across the country to better serve the public.
AAM is the only organization representing the entire scope of museums and professionals and nonpaid staff who work for and with museums. AAM currently represents more than 16,000 members 11,500 individual museum professionals and volunteers, 3,100 institutions, and 1,700 corporate members. Individual members span the range of occupations in museums, including directors, curators, registrars, educators, exhibit designers, public relations officers, development officers, security managers, trustees and volunteers.
Every type of museum is represented by the more than 3,100 institutional members, including art, history, science, military and maritime, and youth museums, as well as aquariums, zoos, botanical gardens, arboretums, historic sites, and science and technology centers.

Alexandria County District Of Columbia
The area that now contains almost all of Arlington County was ceded to the new United States federal government by Virginia, along with most of what is now the city of Alexandria. With the passage of the in 1790, approved a new permanent capital to be located on the , the exact area to be selected by U.S. President . The Residence Act originally only allowed the President to select a location within Maryland as far east as what is now the . However, President Washington shifted the federal territory’s borders to the southeast in order to include the existing town of Alexandria at the District’s southern tip.
In 1791, Congress, at Washington’s request, amended the Residence Act to approve the new site, including the territory ceded by Virginia. However, this amendment to the Residence Act specifically prohibited the “erection of the public buildings otherwise than on the Maryland side of the River Potomac.”
As permitted by the , the initial shape of the federal district was a square, measuring 10 miles on each side, totaling 100 square miles . During 179192, and several assistants placed at every mile point. Fourteen of these markers were in Virginia and many of the stones are still standing.
In 1852, the Virginia legislature voted to incorporate a portion of Alexandria County to make the City of Alexandria, which until then had been administered only as an unincorporated town within the political boundaries of Alexandria County.

Membership Of Aamd Approves Change To Deaccessioning Rule Bringing Policy In Line With American Alliance Of Museums And Financial Accounting Standards Board
The Association of Art Museum Directors announced today that following a week of electronic voting, AAMDs members have approved a change to Professional Practices in Art Museums to narrowly change the approved use of funds from deaccessioned art. The new rule was approved with 109 votes in favor a simple majority of AAMDs 199 voting-eligible members was required for this resolution to pass. Members were given four days in which to place their vote, a total of 130 votes were cast. The new rule will allow funds generated by the sale of deaccessioned art to be used for direct care of objects in a museums collection, with a very specific definition of direct care. This change brings AAMDs policy in alignment both with the American Alliance of Museums and the Financial Accounting Standards Board and goes further than either AAM or FASB by providing a specific definition for direct care.

The electronic vote was managed by Honest Ballot for AAMD. This process ensured voting accuracy and authenticity, with each eligible member allowed one vote through a unique ID tied to their email addressand at the same time ensured anonymity for participating members. Media & Technology is a Professional Network of the American Alliance of Museums , a leading museums organization in the United States. The M& T Network is the AAM link between museums and media technologies. As such, it identifies, examines, and advocates appropriate uses of media technologies in helping museums meet the needs of their diverse publics. Membership is limited to institutions or individuals that are members of AAM. The mission of the M& T is “to identify, access, and advocate a broad variety of program uses for media and technology in helping museum professionals meet the needs of their diverse publics”.

If You Want To Support Voters With Education And Empowerment:
Throw a party for first-time voters. Legally you cant give free admission to those with an I Voted sticker. But you can celebrate voting by hosting an informal event to applaud poll workers, voters and the democratic system. Last year, Museum of the Moving Image teamed up with Cook Out the Vote. In August, First Americans Museum teamed up with Rock The Native Vote for a Battle of the Bands.
This is a chance to show off your institution! Many museums offer citizenship ceremonies you could invite new citizens back for a visit. Reach out to a local college with an event for their first-year class. If your city has a business or tech boom, new-to-the-area businesses might want to send employees over for a local history tour before casting ballots.
Invite your local college or high school sports team to visit your institution for a tour on All Vote No Play Day an initiative backed by the NCAA to give athletes Election Day off practice, to have time to vote and do civic drills. Last year, the National Center for Civil and Human Rights gave a tour to the Georgia Tech Mens Basketball Team.
Use your social media, exhibit space or newsletter to share content about voting history, the right to vote, and key moments of democracy to inspire and ignite civic participation. You can also join Voter Education Week from Oct. 37

The Best Museum Pass That No One Knows About
I’d hate myself if I wrote the words “museum hack,” but I guess I already did it.
Most tourist passes are uninspired but museum lovers should take a serious look at joining the American Alliance of Museums, a membership for museum professionals that offers free admission to some truly stellar museums around the nation. Though it is not a traditional “pass” per se, anyone can join .
Individuals are able to join for $90 per year students and retirees can join for $50 per year. Most museums are part of networks, and the American Alliance of Museums is one of the biggest around, and includes everything from the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in NYC to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library & Museum in Boston.
Museum network members are often granted access to reciprocal museums, and this is where it gets fun with free admission to all museums part of the alliance.
Is it worth it? A simple case study in NYC: Both the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Museum of Modern Art charge $25 for an adult. Tack on the Guggenheim and the Brooklyn Museum , and the price of individual admission already surpasses the cost of the membership.
Most people will break even right around the four-museum-per-year mark.

Cancellation And Substitution Policy
A $75 processing fee will be applied to all cancellations and transfers, subject to the following terms and conditions.
- All cancellation and transfer requests must be made in writing via mail, fax or e-mail by published cancellation dates. The Alliance is not responsible for cancellation or transfer requests that are incomplete or are not received.
- Cancellation requests received before April 15, 2023 will receive a 100% refund on registration and event fees, minus the processing fee. No refunds of conference registration, event fees, or daily passes will be granted after April 15, 2023.
- Registrants who are no longer able to attend the meeting may request a substitution by submitting their request in writing. The substitute must be from the same organization, and requests are subject to a $75 processing fee. Substitutions will be accepted through May 19, 2023. Upon receipt, the original registration rate and any event tickets purchased will transfer to the new attendee. Substitution requests will not be accepted after May 19, 2023.

Arlington has consistently had the lowest unemployment rate of any jurisdiction in Virginia. The unemployment rate in Arlington was 4.2% in August 2009. 60% of office space in the Rosslyn-Ballston corridor is leased to government agencies and government contractors. There were an estimated 205,300 jobs in the county in 2008.
