Plan Your Visit To The Titanic Belfast Museum

Should you check out the Titanic Belfast museum? Absolutely! If youre even mildly intrigued in the story of the Titanic, you should make time in your busy travel schedule to check it out. In addition to the Titanic Belfast and the museum indoors, you can also visit the old Belfast shipyards outdoors.

While I dont tend to seek out museums when I have a limited amount of time in a city, Im really glad that I visited this one. The interactive exhibits present the information in an entertaining, thorough, and thought provoking manner.

While audio guides arent included with admission, you can rent them at an additional cost. I didnt find that they were necessary, but some visitors enjoy having the audio guide for more details. For those who are interested, theres also a gift shop and a gallery café. The Titanic store has lots of unique gifts and Titanic related memorabilia.

Aim to spend at least a couple of hours here. Sometimes there are special events and exhibitions. Be sure to check out the Titanic Belfast website for all the details. I recommend booking your tickets in advance. There are a limited amount of people allowed to visit per day, and you dont want to arrive to be turned away at the door.

Rare Artifacts On Temporary Display

Through April 10, two additional and rare artifacts are on display at the Pigeon Forge museum. Titanic survivor Helen Churchill Candee gave a silver brandy flask and a pendant a family heirloom to a Edward Kent as he escorted her to the lifeboats. Mrs. Candee believed Mr. Kent would survive before she would. The items were in Kents jacket pocket when his body was recovered from the cold sea.

The flask and the pendant remained in the Candee family until her granddaughter put the brandy flask up for auction at the Henry Aldridge & Son Auction House in England. Both artifacts will remain at the museum until April 10. They will then be auctioned off in London, according to a Titanic Museum press release.

Fairview Lawn Cemetery Halifax Nova Scotia Canada

Fairview Lawn Cemetery holds the remains of 121 victims of the Titanic disaster. The grey, granite markers create the shape of a ships hull. The area is a popular spot and it is marked and easy to find. Nearly one-third of the victims have never been identified.

In 2002, forensics identified the remains of The Unknown Child as 19-month-old Sidney Leslie Goodwin from England. The crew of the CS Mackay-Bennett pulled the toddler from the water and paid for his funeral. Erected to the memory of an unknown child whose remains were recovered after the disaster of the Titanic April 15th 1912 is carved on his gravestone.

Now, you will also see at the base of the stone a laminated photo of a baby boy and a stone with the name Sidney Leslie Goodwin, Sept. 9, 1910 Apr. 15, 1912. Its eery, but this will stay with you.

The Titanic Experience: Titanic Belfast Museum Exhibition

There are nine interactive galleries of the Titanic Experience at Titanic Belfast. These tell the story of the RMS Titanic, from the early 20th century at the shipyard to the discovery of her final resting place at the bottom of the ocean.

Its a self-guided tour with lots of information to learn and absorb along the way. Youll learn all about the story of Titanic, from the early 1900s to present day. I really loved the large amount of interactive exhibitions that present the tale in many engaging ways. Furthermore, if you have any questions, there are employees throughout each gallery to assist you.

How Long Does It Take To Go Through The Titanic Museum In Pigeon Forge

This isnt necessarily an entire day type of attraction. But Id say it could at least be a half-day attraction if you stretch it out.

This also depends on what type of vacationer you are. I like to stretch my dollar and take my time.

At the very least, I would say plan to spend at least 2-3 hours at the Titanic Museum.

Anything short of that, and you may not be getting your moneys worth.

Titanic Museums Of The World

The beloved Titanic has become a symbol of history and culture around the world and many institutions are interested in its preservation and sharing its beauty with the public. Since the ship was rediscovered on July 14, 1986, many have been interested in what the wreckage contains and what these artifacts can tell us about the life and death of the vessel. A variety of Titanic museums can be found around the world, each possessing unique items exhumed from the wreckage of the Titanic and each offering its unique story behind the unsinkable ship.

Titanic Museum Branson, MO

In 1987, owner of the Titanic Museum of Branson Missouri John Josyln co-led a 6 million dollar expedition to the site of the newly rediscovered Titanic shipwreck site. Diving multiple times to the wreckage in a submersible, the crew of the expedition took hundreds of images of the wreckage which became the inspiration for a variety of Titanic documentaries and shows and since have become some of the most famous images of the Titanic shipwreck. Since that journey, Josyln has dedicated his life to sharing the experience of the Titanic. This is done via a museum that is a two story replica of the ship itself and includes a grand staircase, walkable decks, various artifacts, and recorded tapes of survivor stories.

Is The Titanic Museum Worth It

The Titanic Museum Attraction and the Track Family Fun Park ...

But is it worth the price of admission? Lets dive in and find out.

You can spend many an hour contemplating why a giant replica museum of RMS Titanic exists in the Great Smoky Mountains of Pigeon Forge or in Branson, Missouri for that matter.

But ultimately that question is irrelevant for the simple fact that Titanic exists in Pigeon Forge and the whys and wherefores cease to exist once you climb aboard, so to speak.

Worth is always in the eye of the beholder, but climbing aboard the Titanic Pigeon Forge is likely to be an experience you wont regret.

Its worth it alone to see the detail that you will find throughout this attraction. The museum is inextricably linked to the blockbuster movie, though not affiliated in the least.

Its hard to imagine that even with Titanics historic legacy the museum would exist without the movie.

As such, the grand staircase which was such a central part of the movie is also the central part of the museum, serving as a perfect replica complete with elaborate railings, an intricate vaulted ceiling and a cherub statue.

But to limit the appreciation of the museum to those who wish for a King-of-the-World moment is to dismiss the history nerd that exists in so many of us.

The displays, some of which are rotating, are diverting and informative.

The rooms are exact replicas of Titanics quarters and are akin to touring Versailles, Napoleon IIIs quarters in the Louvre or the tours at Biltmore.

It Has The Worlds Largest Lego Titanic Ship

Not only does the museum have the largest collection of remaining life jackets, but it is also home to the worlds largest Titanic ship made from LEGOS. When he was 10, a boy from Iceland built a 26-x-5-foot Titanic model using 56,000 LEGO bricks. The boy has Autism and the project took him 11 months to complete. The inspiring story ended up gaining attention from news outlets, and Brynjar Karl was able to tell his story to the world. You can see how his hard work paid off in the museum!

The Grand Staircase Replicated

If everyone knows the Titanic, then everyone knows the Grand Staircase. At Titanic Museum Attraction in Pigeon Forge, TN, guests are invited to walk on the replicate staircase that they offer, the only museum to allow guests to walk on such a staircase. The staircase is built from the actual ship blueprints and is duplicated accurately. Iron and woodworkers reconstructed this staircase with the most accurate details and delicate oak wood carvings for the best experience.

In the original Titanic ship, the staircase was most famous for the area where passengers made their grand entrance and showed off their picked outfits of the day. Visitors will be surprised to know that the floor of the grand staircase was made with material considered the most expensive in the year 1912. The whole design and thought that went into carving this masterpiece at the museum cost just over $1 million.

The Museum Is Home To The Worlds Largest Lego Titanic

The Titanic Museum in Pigeon Forge Tennessee is displaying the worlds largest LEGO replica of the RMS Titanic. Made from 56,000 bricks, the LEGO ship is 26 feet long and was built completely to scale. This one-of-a-kind piece of art was the passion project of Brynjar Karl Birgisson, an Icelandic boy who was only 10 years old when he completed the LEGO ship.

Building the Titanic replica was a transformative experience for Brynjar, who has autism. When he started working on the ship he could hardly communicate with others, but now he gives interviews and presentations all around the world. Brynjar spent 700 hours over 11 months working on his LEGO ship after school.

You can see Brynjar building his Titanic replica in this video from the Discovery Channel:

Construction Launch And Fitting

Titanic Museum | Tennessee Crossroads | Episode 2514.1

The sheer size of Titanic and her sister ships posed a major engineering challenge for Harland and Wolff no shipbuilder had ever before attempted to construct vessels this size. The ships were constructed on Queen’s Island, now known as the Titanic Quarter, in Belfast Harbour. Harland and Wolff had to demolish three existing slipways and build two new ones, the largest ever constructed up to that time, to accommodate both ships. Their construction was facilitated by an enormous gantry built by Sir William Arrol & Co., a Scottish firm responsible for the building of the Forth Bridge and London’s Tower Bridge. The Arrol Gantry stood 228 feet high, was 270 feet wide and 840 feet long, and weighed more than 6,000 tons. It accommodated a number of mobile cranes. A separate floating crane, capable of lifting 200 tons, was brought in from Germany.

Among the last items to be fitted on Titanic before the ship’s launch were her two side anchors and one centre anchor. The anchors themselves were a challenge to make, with the centre anchor being the largest ever forged by hand and weighing nearly 16 tons. Twenty Clydesdale draught horses were needed to haul the centre anchor by wagon from the Noah Hingley & Sons Ltd forge shop in Netherton, near Dudley, United Kingdom to the Dudley railway station two miles away. From there it was shipped by rail to Fleetwood in Lancashire before being loaded aboard a ship and sent to Belfast.

Many Artifacts On Display Were Recovered By The Museums Owner

Believe it or not, many of the artifacts at the Titanic Museum were actually recovered by the co-owner of the attraction, John Joslyn. Way back in 1987, Joslyn co-led a $6 million expedition to the site where the Titanic sank. Joslyns team made 32 dives into the ships wreckage, an adventure that was chronicled in a special TV event called Return to TitanicLive! This 2-hour program remains the second highest rated television documentary of all time.

What Makes Pigeon Forge’s Titanic Museum So Special

It is a two-story museum shaped exactly like the RMS Titanic ship. As the name suggests, it is located in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, and has been operating since April 8, 2010. It is built to be half the size of the original ship and is built around a pool area to give the illusion of the ocean. It might be similar to other Titanic museums when looking at it from the outside, but as soon as the guest steps in they realize there is so much more in this ship than they could have anticipated.

The second voyage to the site of the wreck in 1986 was led by the co-founder of The Titanic Museum In Pigeon Forge, John Joslyn. This guarantees every artifact the guests see on the ship is real, and they are valued at more than $4 million dollars. The structure is built in a pool to create the illusion of the Titanic at sea, and the two-hour, self-guided tour is designed to give guests the sensation of being an original passenger on the Titanic’s 1912 maiden voyage.

The overall vision is to ensure the visitor enters the Titanic museum as a guest and leaves as a passenger with a more thorough understanding of the operations of Titanic. Guests are greeted by costume members with a boarding card, in the name of a real passenger whose destiny is later discovered before the end of the trip, as they board the realistic ship.
