Rare Artifacts On Temporary Display

Through April 10, two additional and rare artifacts are on display at the Pigeon Forge museum. Titanic survivor Helen Churchill Candee gave a silver brandy flask and a pendant a family heirloom to a Edward Kent as he escorted her to the lifeboats. Mrs. Candee believed Mr. Kent would survive before she would. The items were in Kents jacket pocket when his body was recovered from the cold sea.

The flask and the pendant remained in the Candee family until her granddaughter put the brandy flask up for auction at the Henry Aldridge & Son Auction House in England. Both artifacts will remain at the museum until April 10. They will then be auctioned off in London, according to a Titanic Museum press release.

What Do You Do At The Titanic In Pigeon Forge

Like with most museums, you look at the displays and learn about its history.

You can feel the cool touch of an iceberg, take a guided tour, shop at the gift shop and soak in all the interesting information.

The displays including the life jackets are authentic Titanic items and there are many.

Theres a power of being so near to those things that carry you across time and distance, so that you dont feel exactly that you are in a strangely located tourist attraction, rather a legitimate museum with a legitimate connection to our collective past.

The employees in period costume are excellent in adding to the experience of putting you aboard historys best known ship.

There is a delicacy that goes along with building a tourist attraction on the back of a great tragedy, even one that happened so long ago. Titanic, somehow, walks that line.

I think a lot of that credit goes to a fairly obvious gambit. When purchasing a ticket, the visitor is given the name of a real-life passenger Molly Brown, for example.

At the end, you find out whether your passenger lived or died.

Its a very effective way of reminding you that there were real people who sank along with Titanic, who desperately clung to that collection of life vests, mostly hoping in vain to survive the icy cold night.

How Long Does It Take To Go Through The Titanic Museum In Pigeon Forge

Titanic Museum in Pigeon Forge

This isnt necessarily an entire day type of attraction. But Id say it could at least be a half-day attraction if you stretch it out.

This also depends on what type of vacationer you are. I like to stretch my dollar and take my time. At the very least, I would say plan to spend 2-3 hours here.

Anything short of that, and you may not be getting your moneys worth.

Is The Titanic Museum In Pigeon Forge Worth It

Worth is always in the eye of the beholder, but climbing aboard the Titanic is likely to be an experience you wont regret.

Its worth it alone to see the detail that you will find throughout this attraction. The museum is inextricably linked to the blockbuster movie, though not affiliated in the least.

Its hard to imagine that even with Titanics historic legacy the museum would exist without the movie.

As such, the grand staircase which was such a central part of the movie is also the central part of the museum, serving as a perfect replica.

But to limit the appreciation of the museum to those who wish for a King-of-the-World moment, is to dismiss the history nerd that exists in so many of us.

The displays, some of which are rotating, are diverting and informative.

The rooms, exact replicas of Titanics quarters, are akin to touring Versailles, Napoleon IIIs quarters in the Louvre or the tours at Biltmore.

Titanic Museum Pigeon Forge Review

When our family visited Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, Tennessee for spring break last month – I knew that the Titanic Museum would absolutely be on our list to visit. My 17 year old was especially excited to visit the attraction, which calls itself the world’s largest museum attraction. My 13 year old was looking forward to joining us too. We ultimately decided that my husband would take our 5 year old on go-karts and play arcade games elsewhere, so that the big kids could fully enjoy the experience of the tour and we could take our time. We were all really happy with our decision. It was a nice stress-free stroll through the quiet museum and we could read what we wanted and look at we wanted without feeling rushed. The museum was located just a five minute drive from our cabin and close to all the other attractions in Pigeon Forge. We did not have enough time during our last trip to enjoy this experience.

During the last thirty minutes of our tour, we were brought to a more open space to tour some special artifacts that were “on tour” and a man was playing the piano. We were able to snag some photos of china, one of the violins played that night, some sheet music, among other things.

There were also several rooms where staff were playing roles from the ship – a captain, nun and more. They helped the experience become even more immersed.
