What is Day Out With Thomas?Day Out With Thomas is family fun in an outdoor environment! Thomas the Tank Engine is chugging into the Colorado Railroad Museum this September for the annual Day Out With Thomas event. All Thomas fans are invited to come spend the day with the favorite No. 1 Engine. This year, we are celebrating Thomas with a giant outdoor partyjoin us for Trains, Games and Miles of Smiles!
Day Out With Thomas is an exciting way for children and grown-ups to enter the world of Thomas and Friends. The event provides an opportunity for kids to ride on-board a train led by Thomas himself, and to take a photo with him, too! Other hands-free activities include live entertainment, scavenger hunt, hay bale maze, stage shows, sing-a-longs and much more! Its full steam ahead to an unforgettable day with a host of train-related activities, Thomas, and a special appearance from Sir Topham Hatt, the Railway Controller from the Island of Sodor.
Who is Thomas the Tank Engine?Since Thomas the Tank Engine left the depot more than 75 years ago, this Really Useful Engine and his Island of Sodor friends have chugged their way into the hearts of preschoolers and grownups worldwide. Based on The Railway Series of classic stories authored by a father who loved trains and wanted a shared experience with his son, Thomas & Friends is a rite of passage that inspires the imagination while teaching life lessons of friendship, exploration and cooperation.

Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum : The Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum has been telling the Alabama’s railroad history since 1963 and today offers a wide range of exhibits to see.

Virginia & Truckee Railroad : The Virginia and Truckee Railway began when it was chartered in 1869 and meant to provide transportation services to the Reno and Carson City areas.
The railroad ceased to exist as a freight line by 1950 but slowly made a comeback as a tourist line over the years.
Today, about 15 miles of the line are operable although rebuilding of the route is not yet complete along with additional restorations of locomotives and equipment.

Whitewater Valley Railroad : The Whitewater Valley Railroad based Connersville operates a 19-mile line connecting to Metamora and they use one of several diesel locomotives on the property to power their trains.

Thomas The Train, also affectionately known as Thomas the Tank Engine, has been a pop culture icon since the late 1970s with the TV series Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends.
The television series, written and produced by Britt Allcroft, is actually based off the The Railway Series of books written by Englishmen Wilbert Awdry and his son in the 1940s.
Interestingly, the show even drew some interest from adults due to the superb craftsmanship of the models and layouts depicted. Today, this has largely been replaced by CGI and computer animation.
Thomas himself is based from a real steam locomotive design, the E2 Class, an 0-6-0T wheel arrangement conceived by Lawson Billinton of the early 20th century. Listed below is the 2022 schedule and dates regarding where Thomas The Tank Engine will be appearing.
While the history of Thomas the train is interesting, this section looks to highlight the “real life” tank engine which is featured at tourist railroads and museums as special events all across the United States, and other countries, during the operating season.
Thomas the tank engine is also travels around the world to allow visitors, kids especially, to view and sometimes ride behind replica versions of the locomotive.

Day Out With Thomas The Train
We went on a family outing for my nephews birthday and it was a blast! Off peak tickets were $20 included free parking and free shuttle. The trains were great and you can climb on them and explore! The best of course was the train ride with Thomas pulling the train! They had food vendors with wonderful food and very well priced, I was pleasantly surprised! There are lots of things to do very well worth the drive and ticket price, this is a must do!! They do a polar express train day make sure to check out the website.

I had researched this museum for many years. Finally got the opportunity to go to it. I’m so glad I did. There is so much more to this place than I even knew. They had the largest collection of older wooden cars than I had ever seen. It was so cool to be standing in train cars that were over 100 years old. The maintenance roundhouse was pretty awesome as well. We accidentally wandered down to it, not knowing if we were allowed, but it is accessible to the guests from the back and you are able to view from the front. If you love trains, you need to see this place.

Strasburg Railroad : The Strasburg Railroad, located in the heart of Pennsylvanias Amish community in Lancaster, is the countrys oldest railroad still in operation dating back to 1832.
