Tourists walk near the base of the Bollinger Canopy of Peace at The National World War II Museum in New Orleans.
The first is an exhibit timed to mark the 80th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.
Infamy: Pearl Harbor Remembered, will be on view until June 7 in the museums Joe W. and Dorothy D. Brown Special Exhibit Gallery.
Visitors can see a 20-inch steel fragment from the USS Arizona and a chunk of wood from the USS Oklahoma. They can also cast eyes on the flag that was being raised aboard the USS St. Louis when the Japanese assault on Hawaii began.
There is also a poster from a concert played by Elvis Presley, who was on the island filming Blue Hawaii and agreed to play the show to raise money for a floating monument to the Arizona.
The concert, on March 25, 1961, raised $54,000, which is nearly half a million dollars in todays money.
Then there is the more exciting news from the museum about whats coming next year for Veterans Day.
In 2022, the museum plans to offer a state-of-the-art sound and light show involving music, videos and pictures of G.I.s letters home. The images will be projected onto the facades of the museum campus.
Expressions of America, has been in the works for four years, according to Stephen J. Watson, the museums president and CEO.
It will place the museum at the forefront of immersive viewer experiences, Watson said.

What Is There To Do
“The War That Changed The World” – kids, do you know what war this phrase is talking about? If you answered WWII, you’d be correct!
The National WWII Museum in New Orleans is a fascinating museum that is dedicated to this life changing war, and is filled with exhibits all about the different aspects of this time in history. There are exhibits on world leaders, as well as the every day man and women, and there of course are actual fighter jets that were used in the war! It’s a day out in history for the family in Louisiana.
The exhibits at the National WWII Museum cover an epic and global scale, and are housed in three buildings that are each arranged around the central themes of the war. Through interactive displays, oral histories and personal vignettes, kids can not only learn about the war itself, but the real people that it affected.
The museum has over 100,000 artifacts to explore, so make sure you leave enough time! There are diaries, letters, photographs, artworks, weaponry, medals, and even vehicles. It’s worth spending time listening to the oral histories that are recounted by actual war veterans too – it’s something kids can’t learn reading a history book!
There are films that run in the Malcolm Forbes Theater too, where you can get a great start on the history before you start to experience the exhibits.

While Governor and other officials wanted to keep out additional people, the French Creoles wanted to increase the French-speaking population. In addition to bolstering the territory’s French-speaking population, these refugees had a significant impact on the culture of Louisiana, including developing its sugar industry and cultural institutions.
As more refugees were allowed into the , Haitian émigrés who had first gone to also arrived. Many of the white had been deported by officials in Cuba in 1809 as retaliation for schemes. Nearly 90 percent of these immigrants settled in New Orleans. The 1809 migration brought 2,731 whites, 3,102 free people of color , and 3,226 slaves of primarily African descent, doubling the city’s population. The city became 63 percent black, a greater proportion than ‘s 53 percent at that time.

This course will focus on the experiences of United States servicemembers and citizens during the end and aftermath of World War II, studied through the lens of four ABMC sites. Built on the themes of liberation, legacy, memorials, and honoring the missing, this course will look at the ways the United States has commemorated the memory of those whose lives helped secure liberation of others. Each of the four modules is designed to explore the ways we remember and honor the dead lost during this global conflict, while developing content knowledge and pedagogical approaches to teaching about the end and aftermath of WWII.

Mounting System Keeps Maintenance Costs Down
Other benefits accrue from Planars EasyAxis Mounting System. First, the system allows for the routing of cables from the display to power supplies, controllers and other components which are remotely located, keeping unnecessary heat away from the Clarity Matrix displays. Also, because Clarity Matrix runs on a low-voltage infrastructure, we were able to handle those and the Cat6 cables ourselves, which avoided the need for and the added cost of an outside electrical sub-contractor, Foucheaux says.
Further, the EasyAxis Mounting System allows any Clarity Matrix display to be pulled out from the front and lifted up, thereby providing access to any adjacent display that may require maintenance. This means we dont have to power down the entire wall to service a single panel. Its another reason that Planars Clarity Matrix is the only video wall system that we recommend and carry, Foucheaux says.

Scitech Tuesday: The National Wwii Museums 2017 Robotics Challenge
On Saturday May 13th, 40 teams from Louisiana and Alabama gathered to compete and share their project designs in The Monuments Menthe theme for this years robotics challenge.
The robot competition involved students programming their Lego Mindstorms robots to complete 11 tasks. These tasks represented the efforts of the Monuments Men and others in Europe dedicated to saving the cultural heritage of Europe. For example, robots rescued paintings from boxcars, moved the Mona Lisa and a Nike statue from the Louvre, and cleared and posted sentries on damaged monuments.
Teams also designed bridges to carry their robots. This represented the effort to rebuild the bridges of Florence. As the German forces retreated they destroyed the bridges to slow the advancing Allies.
Awards are given annually for the best competitors in the robot competition, and for robot design, and project. In addition, judges pick a Grand Champion. The Grand Champion may or may not win at any of the individual events, but embodies the spirit of the challenge. This years Grand Champion team won, in addition to the usual trophy, copies of The Monuments Men, signed by author Robert Edsel. We thank Mr. Edsel for this generous contribution.
