Closure And Virtual Visits

The Ayala Museum is a privately owned institution devoted to the art, culture and history of the Philippines. Located in Makati, part of the metropolitan conurbation of Manila, the museum contains numerous examples of Filipino cultural legacy. The museum is housed in a six-storey modernist building that remains closed due to the coronavirus response in the Philippines as well as some renovation work going on there. Consequently, the museums board wanted to offer a virtual tour that visitors could enjoy online as a part of International Museum Day 2021. What was different about their approach was a question of style. The 8-bit tour may seem old-fashioned at first glance but it manages to engage visitors with the museums collection surprisingly well.

Firstly, the interactive tour takes visitors around the museum in any way they choose. Visitors can explore Filipino culture as they see fit, encountering indigenous and ethnographic exhibits that catch their eye and ignoring ones that dont. Neither is this a video presentation of a museums galleries where visitors are expected to simply sit and listen. Instead, the tour takes place on a two-dimensional platform known as Gather.Town. In effect, this is an online social platform that allows visitors not just to find their own way but to interact with one another. By controlling their avatar, visitors can explore the museum or stick around in one place and chat with others.

See The Breadth Of Breaking And Entering In Video Games

Fullerton Museum Center’s Virtual Tour of Golden Legacy: 75 Years of Golden Books

Video games have tackled certain mechanics in wildly different ways over the years. From the jump and run to archery, flight, and dialogue choices, studios all put their own spin on the world. And with the Museum of Mechanics: Lockpicking, Dim Bulb Games explores the vast legacy of breaking into places NPCs dont want you to be.

The Museum of Mechanics: Lockpicking is essentially a virtual exhibit, housing basic simulations of different lockpicking minigames across the years. Its out on Steam today . One plaque, at the beginning of the exhibit, remarks that this is intended for game developers seeking a deeper understanding of how others have tackled the lockpicking problem.

The result, though, is a fascinating look at exactly that: how do you make picking a lock engaging? What makes some work, and others not work as well? How can picking a lock feel right for your world?

It wouldnt make much sense for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim to have the same lockpicking game as Mass Effect, for example. And where rolling a die works for tabletop games like Dungeons & Dragons, more action-oriented games might opt for a sort-of Simon Says approach.

If any of this sounds interesting, you can pick up Museum of Mechanics: Lockpicking on Steam or Itch.

The Ayala Museum Asks Where Is The Filipino With An Interactive 8

The Anne Frank Center USA

While many museums offer 360-degree virtual tours nowadays with often varying degrees of success, few often go deliberately old school. Nevertheless, this is exactly what the Ayala Museum in the Philippines has done with a creative 8-bit version of the museum it has made to provide online visitors with a virtual touring experience. Named Where is the Filipino?, the virtual tour looks like an old-fashioned computer game from the 1980s with brightly coloured graphics and characters. The tour seeks to gamify the experience of a museum visit to make it as much fun as possible.

The Nebraska Panhandle offers some of the most spectacular scenery in the state, especially in what could be called Nebraskas Landmark Country, stretching from Courthouse and Jail Rocks at Bridgeport, past Chimney Rock at Bayard, and on to Mitchell Pass and Scotts Bluff National Monument at Scottsbluff and Gering.

These historic natural monuments were the same monuments that thousands of Oregon Trail and California Trail emigrants heading west passed from the 1840s to the 1860s and wrote countless diary entries about. These monuments were spectacular then and remain so today. The trails still are visible too, as swales that indicate a deep roadbed created from wagons traveling along a single path through Mitchell Pass.

As farmers and ranchers began to settle the North Platte valley and irrigation became available, they grew wheat, sugarbeets, dry edible beans and potatoes. On the High Plains, agriculture is different from much of the states corn and soybean country. Thats why the Legacy of the Plains Museum in Gering, located in the shadow of Scotts Bluff and directly in line with the history of the Oregon Trail, is such an important gem.

When these two world-class collections joined forces to become the Legacy of the Plains Museum in 2013, a one-of-a-kind museum providing comprehensive historical displays for visitors was formed.

The Legacy Museum: From Enslavement to Mass Incarceration displays the history of slavery and racism in America. This history includes the enslavement of African-Americans, racial lynchings, segregation, and racial bias.

The Equal Justice Initiative founded the museum. It is a counterpart to the National Memorial to Peace and Justice, which is dedicated to the memory of the victims of lynching.

The museum displays a collection of soil from lynching sites across the United States. Researchers have documented about 4400 racial terror lynchings in the post-Reconstruction era between 1877 and 1950.

Most lynchings took place in the decades just before and after the turn of the 20th century.

Its exhibits include oral history, archival materials, and interactive technology to show the horror and terror of enslavement, lynchings, and legalized racial segregation in America.

The museum leads the visitor from slavery to racial oppression in its many forms, including terror lynching and mass incarceration of minorities.
