Amulets And Roman Glass Jewelry

Amulets derive their power to aid and protect from the various names of G-d that are written on them in code, abbreviation, or acrostic. Browse the Israel Museum’s stunning collection of Jewish amulet replicas. There are dozens of necklaces, rings and bracelets to choose from. Some of our most popular selections include a replica of a 17th century magic square amulet from the Jewish community of Afghanistan.

Besides amulets, we carry a whole line of jewelry based on ancient designs as well as original designs set with Roman glass. Roman glass dates back as early as the 1st century C.E. and has been excavated from sites all over Israel. All Roman glass has a lovely iridescent patina, slowly acquired over the centuries.

Echo Park Pottery Designed By Peter Shire: Short Splatter Mug

This mug by Los Angeles-based artist Peter Shire makes an outstanding gift for any creatives in your life. I like the balance between the purposeful, exaggerated forms of the object and the playful, kind of thoughtfully haphazard splatter of the glaze. The production process means that no two mugs are alike. Functional, unique, and sculptural what more could you ask for?

The Jewish Museum Shop

One of my favorite gift shops is the Jewish Museum gift shop in New York.

I met with Stacey Zaleski, Director of Merchandising and the brains behind the shop, this past spring. What was supposed to be an hour-long walk-through easily turned into two hours.

Camouflage Dreidels in blue or army green

Once you enter the shop and begin looking around, its difficult to leave and even more difficult to leave empty-handed.

The Jewish Museum gift shop is the place to find that one-of-a-kind gift you just dont see everywhere else. The museum works closely with artisans both locally and abroad to develop exclusive products that have a modern design aesthetic. And theyve got more than just Judaica. Its a great place to buy jewelry and accessories and gifts for the home, too.

Theyve actually got two gift shops. The Cooper Shop offers an extensive selection of merchandise reflecting the museums current exhibitions and permanent collection as well as general gifts, museum reproductions and adaptations, jewelry, books, music, toys and inspired objectsall relating to Jewish life.

Celebrations, is devoted exclusively to high-quality, innovative and artist-designed Jewish ceremonial objects for every holiday and occasion.

Theres so much good stuff in the shops that Im splitting this post in two. Today will be all about Hanukkah and next week Ill feature beautiful jewelry, candlesticks and more.

Dreideltooth Bow Tie by Geltfiend: Mustard and Navy

Geo Dreidel And Stand By Nambe

Jewish Museum of Maryland Review

I love the sleek design, weight, and timeless feel of this dreidel. The well-crafted wooden stand elevates this object from a more traditional childrens toy to a statement piece accentuating my home. It also comes at an affordable price point, making it a perfect gift for friends and loved ones who invite us to their Hanukkah parties!

The South African Jewish Museum, which incorporates a synagogue built in 1905 into a modern complex made of glass, wood, and steel, pays homage to Jews who died during the Holocaust and also to black South Africans who were oppressed during the apartheid era. Nosh Menorah By Modern Mensch In Rose Gold

Although I dont technically celebrate Hanukkah, I always celebrate beautiful objects. This metallic, bagel-shaped menorah caught my eye over a year ago as a gorgeous tabletop piece, but also because it came in all the iPhone colors: silver, gold, and rose gold. As a millennial tech nerd, it has since become my go-to holiday gift to friends who also celebrate beautiful objects, Hanukkah, or both.
