Ball Pits And Airplanes In The Outdoor Playground
We didnt see anybody outside, so we thought that part of the museum was closed. But eventually we spotted a door that led to the outside.
Known as MonstroCity, the outside part of the City Museum features two large Saber 40 aircrafts suspended in the air. You can crawl through wrought-iron slinky tunnels to reach these planes, where you can visit the cockpits or stand on the wings.
Climbing through the iron slinky from one plane to another was a bit scary, but in a good way, like a thrill ride. The tunnel felt wobbly, but we knew it had to be safe, otherwise they wouldnt let people climb through, right?
While climbing through the tunnels, I noticed a vintage clothing store on one of the floors inside the building.
But I never figured out how to get there thats one of the drawbacks of a museum where navigation so difficult. I later learned it was called The Baleout. It would have been cool to check it out.
The outside playground also had a giant ball pit with lots of old rubber dodge balls. While digging through the balls, we found lots of weird items, like earrings and, bizarrely, a half-eaten bag of baby carrots. Youll want to make sure you wash your hands after leaving this place.
Has Anyone Stuck In City Museum
Visitors have suffered concussions in museum tunnels and caves and broken legs and ankles on its three-story indoor slide. Most cases have been settled out of court, including the case of 18-month-old Tobey Munari, who slipped through a small gap in a MonstroCity seating area and fell some 14 feet.

Attend A Musical At Municipal Opera
The Muny
The Municipal Opera, also known as, “The Muny,” is the nation’s largest and oldest outdoor theater, with live performances at this Forest Park theater being a summer tradition for nearly a century. Each year, The Muny stages seven musicals starting in mid-June and ending in early August. More than 1,400 free seats in the last nine rows at the back of the theater are available for every performance. It’s first come, first served, with gates opening for the free seats at 7 p.m. and showtime starting at 8:15 p.m.

Do You Need To Pay For Museums
Despite a long history of restrictions, several prestigious museums and galleries in the United States remain free to enter. A visitor to the remarkable Smithsonian museums in Washington, DC, would not be surprised to learn that they are all free. They include both the popular Air and Space Museum and the American History Museum, which have been around for decades. Slides And Hamster Wheels Inside The St Louis City Museum
It took a bit of wandering around, but we found the stairs and headed up to a human hamster wheel, where we took turns trying to get the thing going.
We also found some of the giant slides. If you venture deep into the Enchanted Caves, youll come to the Shoe Shafts room, where workers used to send shoes down slides when the building was a shoe factory.
If you have the patience and stamina to climb up 10 floors, you can ride a spiral slide all the way back down.
The spiral slide was fun, but we enjoyed the smaller 3-story slide by the entrance more. The front slide features bright colors all the way to the bottom.
The museum also houses the worlds largest pencil, a 76-foot-long, 21,000-pound monstrosity that actually contains graphite and a working eraser.

Day One Evening: Delmar Loop
6 p.m.: After a busy afternoon in Forest Park it’s time to refuel with some dinner. The Delmar Loop just north of the park has a nice variety of restaurants for any appetite. Salt + Smoke at 6525 Delmar Boulevard serves up delicious BBQ with fall-off-the-bone ribs and gourmet mac and cheese. Beer lovers will enjoy the craft brews on tap at Three Kings Public House at 6307 Delmar Boulevard. The pub satisfies its hungry customers with upscale bar food made from locally sourced ingredients. For a family-friendly option, there’s Fitz’s at 6605 Delmar Boulevard. Fitz’s bottles its own root beer and other hand-crafted sodas. It offers typical American fare like burgers, sandwiches, and salads, but save room for dessert. The giant root beer floats are worth a splurge.
8 p.m.: The Delmar Loop is a popular destination in the evening. You can take in some live music at the legendary Blueberry Hill at 6504 Delmar Boulevard. There are concerts most nights in the Duck Room, the same spot where Chuck Berry used to play. The Loop also has newer live music venues bringing in top national talent. The Pageant at 6161 Delmar Boulevard and Delmar Hall at 6133 Delmar Boulevard feature some of today’s most popular bands and artists. For a more laid back evening, you can see the latest indie or arthouse movie at the historic Tivoli Theatre at 6350 Delmar Boulevard.

Day Two Afternoon: Anheuser Busch Brewery
1:30 p.m.: After lunch, it’s time for another of St. Louis’ most famous attractions, the Anheuser Busch Brewery at 1127 Pestalozzi Street, just south of downtown. The brewery offers free tours seven days a week. Advanced registration is not required unless you are bringing a group of 15 people or more. The tour includes a visit to the Budweiser Clydesdales and a walk through the brewing and bottling areas. It ends in the tasting room with free samples of freshly-made AB products. For those wanting a more immersive experience, there are also Beer Master and Beer Museum Tours, as well as Beer School.
3 p.m.: The tours include quite a bit of walking, so afterward you may want to sit and enjoy another drink in the brewery’s Biergarten. The Biergarten also has food if you need a snack to boost your energy, or you can stick around for specials and live music during happy hour.
Travel To Outer Space At The Science Center
In the heart of downtown St. Louis on Market Street between 8th and 10th Streets lies Citygarden Sculpture Park, a metropolitan reprieve filled with fountains, wading pools, a sculpture park, and year-round activities. Dennis And Judith Jones Visitor And Education Center
The Dennis and Judith Jones Visitor and Education Center, formerly known as the Lindell Pavilion, was built in 1892 as a station for the Lindell Railway. Designed by , the Visitor Center is in the style. In 1904, it was occupied by tenants of the World’s Fair. In 1914, the building opened as a golf shop and locker room, which it remained until the early 2000s.
After the renovation of the adjacent Forest Park Golf Course, the building was converted into the park Visitor Center. The $4 million conversion project restored the and installed new heating and air conditioning systems, public restrooms, and locker rooms. Part of the 22,000-square-foot facility is available as an event venue known as the Trolley Room, which can accommodate up to 400 guests, while Forest Park Forever, a local non-profit group, operates its headquarters in the building. Other groups in the building include the and Older Adults Services and Information Systems . The restoration included establishment of the Forest Perk Cafe, a coffee and sandwich shop. The building is the base of the World’s Fair Bike Rental, which rents cruiser bicycles for public use in the park.
Saint Louis Science Center
The Saint Louis Science Center, across Interstate 64 on the southern edge of Forest Park, received slightly more than a million visitors in 2010. Part of the science center, the , is located within the park and is connected to the main building by an enclosed . In addition to the Orthwein StarBay show featuring more than 9,000 stars on an 80-foot ceiling, the facility offers exhibits about living in space. It also hosts monthly public events co-sponsored by the St. Louis Astronomical Society.

St. Louis has so much to offer sounds trite to say but it does. One of our iconic gems is the St. Louis Art Museum , located in Forest Park, on the western edge of the city.
Though originally established in 1879, SLAM moved into the Palace of the Fine Arts building, built for the 1904 Worlds Fair, later that same year. Its regarded as one of the principal U.S. art museums, displaying paintings, sculptures, cultural objects, and ancient masterpieces from all corners of the world. A favorite of mine-and my kidsare the mummies in the Egyptian section.
