How difficult is to park near the Spy Museum on a weekend?

Thanks!

You can park in a parking garage. That will be your best bet.

can help you.

Sounds like you need to start studying a map. If you are staying at the Residence Inn Capitol Hill, as you said in your other posts, the Spy Museum is only about a mile and a half away. Taking a taxi would be faster and much cheaper than parking, and unless you’re traveling with a very large group, the metro would also be cheaper. You could even walk there in about a a half hour, and it would be a good walk too because you would go past many famous sites on the Mall.

95% of tourists don’t need a car in DC, and in fact it is a burden because it is unnecessary for getting around but very expensive to park.

Edited: 10 years ago

We will have car since we are driving from Toronto.

We can’t easily fit into a taxi since there are 5 of us including 1 y.o.

I’m planning our last day when we have to check-out and leave the hotel.

My idea was to drive to the museum from the hotel, spend there about 3 hours, have lunch nearby and drive to the Zoo. Spend whatever we might / want to spend there and then go back home.

5 people can definitely fit into a taxi, especially if one of the people is a 1 y.o. who would fit into somebody’s lap.

I don’t know how it is in Canada, but here in the States cabbies allow somebody to sit passenger side next to the driver.

Try To Go During Off Hours

Try to go during off hours! We went towards the early evening, which was crowded and full of younger kids. This made doing anything interactive almost impossible, as they tend to hog the interactive stations/screens. But if you want to just walk around and read/look at interesting facts then you will like it just fine. So much to see! Definitely need at least 3 hours to really look through everything. The gift shop has nothing really impressive or attractive though.

Looking For A Hotel Near The International Spy Museum

We’re looking for a hotel that is somewhere near the International Spy Museum, that’s either walkable, drivable or near a subway station in mid June of 2022. Two seniors who really can’t walk a long way. Must have a parking garage, free breakfast included.

Thanks

10 replies to this topic

Yes, theres a Hilton 400 feet from the museum.

Youll probably have to pay for breakfast though.

That area is great for subway and driveablity: right off 395 and Lenfant plaza station takes you everywhere. Walkablity is ok, it’s easy to get to the national mall and to museums , and the Wharf is only around a 12 min walk away, and has lots of great restaurants, ice cream places and piers, and there’s also a mall right underneath the hotel.

But, be advised, it isn’t in the super dense urban core of DC, and other than to the Wharf and the National Mall , it isn’t a really fun place to walk in

Do you plan to drive here? The parking cost alone may be more than $45 a day at any hotel in DC. Hotels with free parking will be far outside DC and require a long subway ride.

The Lenfant plaza parking lot is $23 a day and right underneath that hotel . Expect parking to be 15-25 dollars per day, not 40+ unless you use hotel valet.

Edited: 14 October 2021, 18:34

The LEnfant Plaza garage is not 24 hours. It closes at 10:00 pm. The hotel valet parking is $55 per day.

Edited: 14 October 2021, 18:57

Yes, we have to drive because we are stopping here for a day or two before going somewhere else.
