Y Photos Of The Week: Montreal Museum Of Fine Arts Gala

This article was published more than 6 years ago. Some information may no longer be current.

The 55th edition of Montreal¹s beloved Fine Arts Museum Gala on Nov. 21was a swinging success. I¹m not surprised ¬ the museum has been on aroll, and blockbuster shows like a recent Rodin retrospective andfashionfocused fare like the Jean Paul Gaultier exhibition have made itCanada¹s only art museum to top the one-million-visitor mark. It¹s alsothe Canadian museum with the most members, close to 100,000 and counting. Also interesting is that the museum is largely self-funded andboasts one of the highest levels of self-funding in the country eventslike this latest sold-out gala, which raised an impressive $1-million,are vital to the success of future exhibitions.

Surveying MMFAs galas past, this one felt, to me, the most modern and inclusive. The gen-next heavy committee, chaired by Tania Dupont, included 15 movers and shakers from the art, culture and business sectors, and the event celebrated and included the future of museum supporters by making 100 tickets for a post-dinner dance available for the first time. On the creative front, a crop of local up-and-comers in expressive fields were invited to transform 15 of the museums galleries into one off-dining spaces inspired by the event theme, Live Art Loud.

S Inside Fte Champtre: A Countryside Gala Benefitting The Montreal Museum Of Fine Arts

Gorgeous Museum of Fine Arts Grand Gala Ball is a record breaker ...

A couple of Sundays ago, as summer came to a close and the slightest hint of fall could be felt in the air, scores of Toronto-based philanthropists and art enthusiasts headed toward the Ontario countryside for an art- and music-filled afternoon. Hosted by arts patron Bruce Bailey in his country home, the first-of-its-kind luncheon gala brought together these art lovers in support of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, marking the first time Ontarians have participated in a gala benefitting a Quebec-based arts institution. Dubbed Fête Champêtre after the famed 18th-century garden parties of Versailles, the afternoon event involved musical performances by the Canadian Opera Company and Juno-winning musician Liona Boyd, a family-style country feast by Chef Cory Vitiello, and silent and live art auctions on a collection curated by Mr Bailey. The event raised $400,000 in support of the MMFA, and also gave guests an opportunity to don their finest fancy dress regalia for a lively day of activities. Whats not to love about that?

THE SETTING: Over 300 guests recently attended the Museum of Fine Arts Grand Gala Ball in the brand-new Nancy Rich Kinder Building of the MFAH. Art patrons walked into an event space, with pandemic safety protocol in place, that was brimming with brightly hued flowershot pink peonies and a cascading staircase garland of peonies, garden roses, bougainvillea, and orchids. It was an inspired design collaboration between the chairs and Richard Flowers of The Events Company.

Mfahs Kinder Building Hosts First Gala And It Was Truly Grand

Rich and Nancy Kinder Phoebe and Bobby Tudor

SINCE IT OPENED in November, the Nancy and Rich Kinder Building has been a buzzed-about addition to the Museum District. It is newly home to not one but two restaurants helmed by Michelin-starred chefs, and last weekend finally hosted its first large-scale event, the Museum of Fine Arts’ Grand Gala Ball.

The gala offered an opportunity for 300 supporters to raise a glass to the stunning new building, which for that evening was decked out by The Events Company in swaths of shimmering grays and beautiful pink blooms. Chaired by Phoebe and Bobby Tudor she wore a one-shouldered magenta number that perfectly matched the cascading floral arrangements of the centerpieces and on the staircase banister the Grand Gala Ball featured a three-course dinner by City Kitchen and accompanied by the sounds of Divisi Amp’d. Flowers even adorned the appetizer of Spanish artichokes, and Sweet Nation crafted an amaretto cake in the shape of the building for dessert.

The evening included remarks by the museum’s director, Gary Tinterow, along with Mayor Sylvester Turner and building namesake Rich Kinder, who is also the chairman of the MFAH’s Board of Trustees. And DJ SoulCirque, an “interactive DJ band” incorporating live instruments and visuals into funky DJ sets, got the crowd grooving after dinner.

In all, the Grand Gala Ball raised more than $1.7 million. Grand, indeed!
