Museum Of Fine Arts Bans 2 Members Who Made Racist Comments

Founded as the Boston Museum of Modern Art in 1936, this museum moved to its current waterfront building in 2006 and features contemporary art in the form of film, music, video, literature, and performance. Artists whose work has been introduced to America by the ICA include Georges Braque, Oskar Kokoschka, and Edvard Munch. The Seaport Studio includes a Teen Gallery featuring artwork by Boston-area youth. The seasonal ICA Watershed at 256 Marginal St., added in 2018, is a 15,000-square-foot space where visitors can experience large-scale art. Guests can take a water shuttle between the two buildings.

Hours: Tues., Wed., Sat., and Sun. from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thu. and Fri. from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Music Textiles Jewelry & Photography

In addition to prints, drawings and photography, there are also galleries dedicated to musical instruments, textiles and jewelry. The musical instruments come from around the world and range from ancient times until the 20th century. Textiles on display include haute couture fashion, needlepoint embroidery and tapestries as well as Middle Eastern rugs and African Kente cloths. Featuring Egyptian broad collars to contemporary studio pieces, the jewelry collection comes from almost every culture. The Printing and Drawing Collection is one of the finest in the world with works dating from the 15th century as well as an extensive grouping from the American Civil War. MFA was one of the earliest museums to collect photographs. There are works by Alfred Stieglitz and Georgia OKeefe.

  • To reschedule timed-entry special exhibition or any paid tickets, contact us in advance of your visit date by calling 1-800-440-6975 to exchange your tickets for another date. Tickets are non-refundable, but can be exchanged prior to the visit date. A $4 exchange fee applies.
