In the class search, select enroll to register your child online, or use one of our other ways to register. Early Explorations and Contemporary Creations are offered two times, from 10 a.m. to noon or 2 to 4 p.m. Fees are $15 per session or $10 for members of the Nerman Museum. All necessary information is included in web registrations.

How Many Students Can You Serve With The Mobile Museum Program

The number of students we serve is dependent upon your school schedule, class size, and NHMLAC staff availability.

The Mobile Museum: An Archaeology Experience can serve a maximum of 36 students per program, and we typically facilitate 8 10 programs per week.

The Mobile Museum: An Ocean Experience can serve a maximum of 40 students per program, and we typically facilitate 8 9 programs per week.

How Much Space Does The Mobile Museum Need To Park

Mobile Museum of Art

The Mobile Museums are large full sized semi-tractor trailers. We require a paved, level parking space that is 65 ft. x 20 ft. with a 14 ft. vertical clearance, and can sustain the weight of the trailer. Once your request is approved, the Mobile Museum drivers will conduct an in-person site check to confirm that your site is accessible for the Mobile Museum. We require a person who has authority to sign off on parking to be present during the site check, such as the event site coordinator.

The Mobile Museum will be positioned to ensure maneuverability for the driver and easy access for your event attendees. We make every effort to park the trailer in your preferred spot.

What Do Teachers Need To Do In Preparation For The Mobile Museum Visit

Two weeks before our residency, teachers and administrators are required to attend a 45-minute in-service orientation at your school with NHMLAC staff.

During the in-service teachers will:

  • Participate in a skills-based workshop.

  • Review the required Pre-Visit activity.

  • Review logistics such as scheduling of programs, classroom/mobile location, and preparing a Program Roster.

The NHMLAC staff member leading the in-service will also meet with the school administrator and assigned Program Contact for 15-minutes to review logistical details of the residency.

The structure of the typical school year conditions us to view summer as a time away from learning. Whats great about being an adult is breaking that pattern and turning Mobiles steamiest season into your own educational greenhouse.

The Mobile Museum of Art has a range of classes perfect for picking up new skills, running the gamut of creative mediums.

In late May, Val Webb teaches botanical illustration, in which participants will learn how to tone and texture paper, then paint with gouache and colored pencil. The class includes tips on creative hand-lettering and creating narrative sketchbook pages. The class will work from actual plant specimens, including heirloom flowers, vegetables and herbs. All levels of art experience are welcome those enrolled should bring a sack lunch for the Saturday class.

An illustrator of 11 childrens books, Webb is best known for her drawings of garden and nature subjects. Examples of her work can be seen at valwebb.com.

She will teach two sessions: Friday, May 22, from 1 until 4 p.m., and Saturday, May 23, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Cost is $180, $150 for museum members. A list of needed supplies can be found on the museum website.

A puppet-making class taught by Elizabet Elliott and Susie Bowman will take place in mid-June. The multidisciplinary workshop will incorporate drawing, sculpting, painting, set design and performance.

How Early Will The Mobile Museum Arrive At The Event Site

The Mobile Museum: An Archaeology Experience will arrive approximately 2-hours before the start of the event. Our drivers will spend this time parking the vehicle in the designated space and setting up the ramp/stairs to access the Mobile Museum.

Nerman Museum Of Contemporary Art Regulations

  • Please refrain from bringing toys, games, trading cards, or electronic devices to class.
  • Children must stay with the class group at all times.
  • Students are encouraged to look closely at, but not touch, the artwork, including the outdoor sculpture.
  • Students are asked to walk slowly with no running or wild movement during the tour.
  • Shoes must be worn at all times during class. Shoes with wheels are prohibited.
  • No touching the art or the cases that protect the art.
  • Food items and liquids are not allowed inside the museum, except in Café Tempo.
  • Visitors are kindly requested to silence their mobile telephones when entering the museum.
