9/11 Memorial And Museum Not Seeing Usual Crowds After Reopening

The 9/11 Memorial and the Museum are right next to each other, but whilethe memorial can be accessed free of charge , you need to buy a ticket to access the 9/11 museum in New York .

A limited amount of people can visit the museum at the same time, so all 9/11 Museum tickets, no matter if bought online, at the windows, or as part of a tour, are timed. You need to get to the museum 15 minutes before the time indicated on your ticket. BUY YOUR TICKET HERE

The only exception is on Tuesday evenings, when admission to the museum is free between 5 PM and 8 PM . If youre visiting the city at this time, of course this is a good way to save some money, but you need to plan your visit in advance.

You can try and reserve your 9/11 Museum free tickets online these tickets are sold two weeks in advance starting at 9 AM. Remember that the quantity is limited. If you dont manage to reserve the free tickets for the 9/11 Museum online, you can also try at the ticket windows on the same day you want to visit, where they give away tickets starting at 4 PM. You can only reserve 4 tickets per person.

How Is The 9/11 Museum Different From The 9/11 Tribute Museum

To put it simply, the 9/11 Museum located on the memorial site is the official museum. The 9/11 Tribute Museum is run by the September 11 Families Association and focuses more on the personal experiences of those impacted by the attacks.

Both are informative and compelling, but if you have to choose one, I would recommend you spend your time at the 9/11 Museum.

Guide tip: Make sure you get the right ticket. While the 9/11 Tribute Museum is a quality exhibit, many guests will buy a package deal for One World Observatory and the Tribute Museum thinking that they are getting tickets to the museum inside the memorial and end up disappointed. If you choose a combo ticket instead of going with a tour, make sure you read the information carefully to ensure you know what you are buying.

When You Have Already Bought The Tickets

Since you already have the tickets, you can skip the line at the ticketing counter .

Look for time-based entry lines where everyone with tickets gets to stand.

At the time mentioned on your ticket, you will be allowed to enter the Museum. Yes, no waiting!

How To Get 9/11 Museum Tickets

Getting 9/11 Museum tickets is easier than you can imagine. This post will highlight the various options available.

9/11 Museum and Memorial is one of the most popular attractions in New York.

As you may already know, I was in New York on 9/11. Back then I worked at the United Nations, in the headquarters building in 1 UN Plaza. That was a very sad day for New York in fact, for the world. And one that should never be forgotten.

New York got back on its feet soon after the attacks the World Trade Center has been rebuilt and where the Twin Towers once stood, there now is the 9/11 Museum and Memorial, where you can learn more about the history of those horrible days, honor the many victims, and be warned about the terrible things humans can at times do.

This post will tell you what to expect when visiting 9/11 Memorial and Museum, and how to get tickets.

Is The 9/11 Memorial & Museum Appropriate For Kids

Families visiting New York City often want to bring their kids to the museum. However, it may not be suitable for all children and families. Prior to purchasing your 9/11 Memorial Museum tickets, determine if your children will be able to handle the museums content, exhibits, and nature.

While the museum is not recommended for visitors under the age of 10, Id increase the age to 12. With so much information to take in, it can be frightening and overwhelming for children, especially those with limited information about the tragedy. And while no gore or graphic images are explicitly shown, the exhibits do not sugar coat the events.

If possible, speak to your kids about the 9/11 attacks in NYC prior to your visit. Gauge what theyve learned in school and answer any of their questions truthfully and honestly. If you do believe your children are mature enough to experience the museum, also be prepared to answer their questions throughout your museum visit.

Also, keep in mind the museum is somber and quiet the entire time. Younger children who cannot handle a 2+ hour visit to a silent museum will not do well inside the 9/11 Museum. It may also be in your best interest to have a conversation with your kids about expected and appropriate museum behavior prior to entering the museum.

Visiting The 9/11 Museum With Children

If youre wondering if the 9/11 Museum is appropriate for kids, well thats a totally legit question. The museum recommends the historical part of the exhibition only to children over 10 years old, for the emotional impact that the exhibition can have. I mean, its heavy.

When I visited, there were a few older children . I personally feel like children over 10 can learn a lot from visiting the museum, and youll be fine bringing them, but itd be better if you talked to them about the events of 9/11 before visiting the museum, so it wont be shocking for them. Here youll find some tips from the museum on how to talk to kids about terrorism and 9/11.

If you download the Explore 9/11 app, youll find on there a specific childrens tour, where the events are narrated from another child in very simple and appropriate terms.

The museum also features some activity stations for children, where kids can play and learn from the educators at the same time. Activity stations are offered every Saturday during the school year. They take place in the Museum Education Center from 10 AM to 12:30 PM and 1:30 to 4 PM.

You can also book a 2-hour, kid-friendly workshop where kids will go through the exhibitions and learn in an interactive and non-shocking way about the events of 9/11. This activity is affordable and loved by kids, so a very good choice if youre visiting the museum with children.

First and foremost give yourself plenty of time for your visit and I guarantee you`ll get completely immersed in the tragic event. We went in at 3pm on a bright, sunny Monday afternoon and next thing we knew it was 7:30pm and dark.It doesn’t seem quite right saying that the a Museum and Memorial to such an awful event was tastefully done but it was and extremely respectful to everybody who was caught up in the day and those still affected by it to this day. What struck me was how quiet it was considering the number of people visiting, I guess like me they were just respectively reflecting on the magnitude of the tragedy.A must see if you’re in New York.
