We will invite a variety of experts to speak on the issues that arose throughout the exhibition production process from those related to art such as the relationship between artists and contemporary art museums, the history of the possibilities and limitation of contemporary art, and freedom of expression and the artistic independence of art museums, to a wide range of social issues behind them – in addition to the exhibition of the works below.

It would be difficult, if not impossible, to find a museum professional who got into the arts for the money. But even curatorial assistants have to pay rent.
A new survey conducted by the Association of Art Museum Directors provides hard data on the average salaries for curators, conservators, registrars, and other museum staff membersas well as which roles in this notoriously poorly paid field have seen the biggest salary bumps in recent years.
The AAMD teamed up with the consulting and analytics firm Stax, Inc., to survey 219 museums in the US, Canada, and Mexico about what they pay their employees. The AAMD launched its first salary survey way back in 1918 and began collecting the data in a more formal way in 1991, but this marks the first time it has made its report free to the public.
Unsurprisingly, top administrative positions are the best compensated: The highest-paying museum gigs are director , deputy director , and chief operating officer .
Chief curators and chief conservators two roles that require either an advanced degree, lengthy training, or bothalso fall towards the top of the salary hierarchy. The lowest-paid positions are: security guard , education department assistant , and curatorial assistant .
The second fastest-growing salaried position? Curator.

What Does A Curator Do
Curators are the people that make the important creative and business decisions. They decide what gets exhibited, where it gets displayed and how it is presented. Moreover, these guys look after their institutions collection, working behind the scenes and making sure everything is meticulously catalogued.
Curators also manage the budget for their institutions exhibitions. They might be attending exciting auctions or pottering around antique stores in search of treasures and other finds. If you want to become a curator, you will need to have a certain amount of commercial acumen and a shrewd eye for a bargain. You will effectively be the buyer for the museum or art gallery. You will be spending other peoples money, so youll have to get it right. Youll need to know what is authentic and what would be a good addition to the collection.
Curators are also required to build up a network of contacts and liaise with clients on a frequent basis. Some curators may even commission artworks for specific exhibitions from well-known artists.
Its highly unlikely that you will begin your career as a senior curator. The normal entry-route would involve working as a junior or assistant curator. However, these opportunities are few and far between and competition is incredibly fierce.

Education For Archivists Curators And Museum Workers
Archivists. Archivists typically need a master’s degree in history, library science, archival science, political science, or public administration. Although many colleges and universities have history, library science, or other similar programs, only a few institutions offer master’s degrees in archival studies. Students may gain valuable archiving experience through volunteer or internship opportunities.
Curators. Curators typically need a master’s degree in art history, history, archaeology, or museum studies. Students with internship experience may have an advantage in the competitive job market.
In small museums, curator positions may be available to applicants with a bachelor’s degree. Because curators have administrative and managerial responsibilities, courses in business administration, public relations, marketing, and fundraising are recommended.
Museum technicians. Museum technicians, commonly known as registrars, typically need a bachelor’s degree. Few schools offer a bachelor’s degree in museum studies, so it is common for registrars to obtain an undergraduate degree in a related field, such as art history, history, or archaeology. Some jobs may require candidates to have a master’s degree in museum studies. Museums may prefer candidates with knowledge of the museum’s specialty, training in museum studies, or previous experience working in museums.
Art Gallery Career Education
Most art gallery employees have at least an undergraduate degree in art history. A bachelors degree should qualify you for entry-level positions at most galleries, though many professionals earn master’s or doctoral degrees as their careers advance. A Ph.D. is increasingly important for career advancement.

It is a combination of Pierre Huyghes recent retrospective at the Georges Pompidou Centre and Philippe Parrenos survey at the Palais de Tokyo, both in Paris.
