Graceland Tours Tickets Hours Parking

The new Elvis’s Memphis Museum

Elvis died in the bathroom of Graceland in 1977 of a heart attack. The property is now owned by his daughter Lisa Marie, who lived in the house for the first few years of her life.

As noted earlier, you cant go inside the mansion unless you purchase tickets. And ticket prices have shot up dramatically in recent years.

In 2011, you could get a basic ticket for $31, but the cheapest ticket as of 2021 is now $45.50. And thats for something called the Memphis & Planes Tour, which doesnt even include a tour of the mansion!

The cheapest Elvis mansion ticket is now a whopping $73 for adults and $42 for kids. Thats the Elvis Experience Tour, which includes a mansion tour and full access to the Elvis Entertainment Complex, which includes museums and a tour of his custom jets.

Some Graceland tours include access to the Presley Motors Automobile Museum, which is a collection of the Kings old cars. That includes his famous pink Cadillac! Plus his Rolls Royce, his Mercedes Benz limo, and more.

These massive prices explain why so many people are interested in just visiting the meditation garden at Graceland for free without paying for the full mansion visit. VIP mansion tours range from $112-184.

The most expensive tour includes access to VIP exhibits and random perks like a free meal and an exclusive photo opportunity. That really doesnt sound like anything work paying extra for, to be honest. Find tix here.

When You Can Visit Graceland For Free

Every morning from 7:30-8:30 am, the gates open and visitors are welcome to walk up the drive to the Meditation Garden. The mansion is at 3764 Elvis Presley Blvd. Guests must leave before the daily tours begin.

Outside the gates, youll see the historic marker dedicated to Elvis Aaron Presley.

Graceland, of course, is where the King of Rock N Roll lived. Elvis bought the 13.8-acre mansion in 1957 for just over $100,000. That was a massive sum at the time! But he could afford it thanks to his extensive track record of hits.

The brick wall around the property has been decorated with messages from thousands of Elvis fans over the years.

As you walk up to the Meditation Garden, you can get a good look at the mansion.

Fun fact: Graceland is the second-most visited house in the United States, behind only the White House. Cool!

NOTE: As of early 2021, the Graceland website says that morning access to the meditation garden is on hold due to the current health crisis. There is no word on when visitors will once again be allowed to visit Elvis Presleys grave for free. We can probably expect that as the country opens back up and things return to normal, the Meditation Garden will re-open as well.

We Absolutely Loved Graceland

We absolutely loved Graceland. I had heard that it is very tacky but I thought it was beautiful. It was amazing to see his house keys, wallet and other personal items belonging to the King. The memorial to Elvis in the garden was very moving. Unfortunately, there are crowds to contend with but I guess that is to be expected.

A Grand Welcome at Graceland

What better place to stay during my visit to Graceland than at The Guest House at Graceland, a luxury hotel that opened in 2016? After a 10-minute drive from Memphis International Airport, I stepped out of my taxi humming Blue Suede Shoes.

The next morning, as the tour bus took me up the sweeping driveway to what is probably the most famous residence in history, I was excited to learn more about Elvis life. This house meant the world to Elvis, and he loved to share it with his family and friends.

As I crossed into the marble foyer, I imagined being greeted by the King himself and escorted into the living room, complete with a custom 4.5-meter sofa, white carpets and a black baby grand piano. I was then led into the kitchen and saw the first microwave oven ever sold in .

Of course, visiting Graceland and Memphis for Elvis’ 8th birthday celebration was an unforgettable experience. We were thrilled to be involved in the celebrations and amazed by the development since our last visit in 2008.

Tips For Visiting Graceland And Elvis Presley’s Memphis

Beyond the exhibits: Graceland during the summer and during Elvis Week in particular is a fun and fascinating place to visit even for those on a budget. Don’t want to spend much money? Loaded with both quality and kitschy representations of the King, with import record albums, with examples of the ways in which an artist and celebrity can be made into an icon and “brand,” the souvenir shops function as Elvis and Americana exhibits in their own right. “Elvis tribute artists” sometimes perform impromptu mini-concerts on sidewalks and in parking lots, and Elvis Presley Boulevard outside Graceland on “Candlelight Vigil” night is an outdoor folk-art gallery, as fans create mixed-media tributes to the King in the street, using chalk, candles and other items.

Planning your visit: Give yourself plenty of time to explore Elvis Presley’s Memphis, the sprawl of restaurants, shops and museums located across the street from the Graceland mansion. Opened in 2017 and perhaps still underappreciated, the best of the exhibit spaces devoted to costumes, vehicles, music and movie memorabilia and other artifacts from the Graceland archives compare favorably with similar showcases at the Country Music and Rock and Roll halls of fame.
