We set out on a quest to visit 7 science centers in Ohio over a span of 4 days, and our 3rd stop was the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. We wanted to put our Kentucky Science Center reciprocal membership benefits to the test and enjoy visiting all 7 museums for FREE.

Our first stop was Dayton where we visited the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery and the National Museum of the United States Air Force . Earlier in the day we went to the Great Lakes Science Center before heading over to our second stop of the day, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History.

We stopped at the ticket counter and presented our Kentucky Science Center membership card and photo ID . Then we were given our FREE tickets and a map and were free to explore the museum on our own.

Admission to the Cleveland Museum of Natural History for our family of 6 wouldve been $90. So far the total museum admission savings for this trip is $254.70. Definitely worth the $97 we spent on our Kentucky Science Center membership!

The Cleveland Museum of Natural History is Ohios largest museum focused on natural science. There are more than 5 million research specimens and artifacts that are a part of the museum.

The first exhibit that we saw in the museum was a room full of dinosaur fossils. There were so many different ones to see, and so many various sizes.

Find The Hidden Easter Eggs Around The Museum

Experience 100 Years of Discovery at Cleveland Museum of Natural History’s new exhibit

All Over the Museum

Okay, this isnt exactly an exhibit to see, but the Cleveland Museum of Natural History loves to hide things throughout the museum to find!

First of all, outside the Smead Discovery Center on the lower level of the museum there is a display of beetles on the wall. Amongst them is a tiny little Volkswagen beetle!

Also, there are always at least 6 plastic cheeseburgers hidden throughout the museum at all times. I know there is one inside of the sharks mouth that hangs in the Kirtland Hall of Prehistoric Life. As for the rest, youll have to visit to find them yourself!

There are Easter eggs all over the museum, including in display cases. These are just some of the more popular ones that people have seen! This makes for a fun scavenger hunt with kids, or for those young at heart.

Pro-tip: If you are visiting with kids, be sure to also visit the Smead Discovery Center for interactive activities like the play fossil dig!

Kids Love The Natural History Museum Of Los Angeles

For families seeking indoor-outdoor fun, head to the Natural History Museum in Exposition Park, just south of downtown. Children can see dinosaur bones and other nature-themed exhibits inside, then run around the gardens out back theres even a dedicated Get Dirty zone, where kids can dig in compost bins and play inside a house made from willow branches.

But the NHM will appease all nature enthusiasts, not just young ones. One of the oldest museums in Los Angeles, its expanded several times over since it first opened in 1913, and it now houses more than 35 million specimens and artifacts as well as wildlife dioramas, much like those at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. The scenes are spread across two floors and provide a life-size look at African and North American animals, such as gorillas, lions, and elephants. The dioramas are nearly a century old, but new specimens are added each year.

And for architectural buffs, the museums original rotunda surrounded by marble columns and topped with a stained-glass dome still stands as one of the most striking gems in the city.

Tickets range from $7 for children to $15 for adults.

Sundays Will Go Free At Cleveland Museum Of Natural History For Cleveland East Cleveland Residents Thanks To Mandel Foundation

The Cleveland Museum of Natural History

The Cleveland Museum of Natural History looks at its impact over the past century in its new exhibit “100 Years of Discovery.”

CLEVELAND, Ohio Every Sunday for three years starting Sunday, Jan. 23, residents of Cleveland and East Cleveland will be able to visit the Cleveland Museum of Natural History for free, thanks to a $3 million grant from the Cleveland-based Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Foundation.

The gift will enable the museum to waive adult general admission of $17 and youth admission of $14 for children aged 3 to 18 for residents of the two cities.

The gift will also fund a new community space named for the Mandel brothers that will host community-oriented programming.

Sonia Winner, the museums president and CEO, said the gift is part of the $108 million raised so far to fund a $150 million expansion and renovation, scheduled for completion in 2024.

The Mandel Community Space will be part of the Education Wing, a major component of the expansion.

The $3 million gift is the largest provided to the museum from the Mandel Foundation, established in 1953.

The foundation is named for the late Mandel brothers, Jack, Joseph and Morton. They established the charitable organization after launching a highly successful Cleveland-based auto-parts business in 1946.

The business grew into Premier Industrial Corp., which through a merger later became Premier Farnell PLC.

Going To The Getty Is A Whole Experience

The entrance to the Getty Center begins at the bottom of the Santa Monica mountains, past the frenetic 405 freeway in Brentwood, where youll hop on a three-car funicular and ride about 900 ft to the start of the museums sprawling 600-acre campus.

Inside, theres a vast collection of European paintings, drawings, sculptures, illuminated manuscripts, decorative arts and photography to explore, while beyond the art are several gardens and fountains, including the 134,000-sq-ft Central Garden, designed by artist Robert Irwin and featuring more than 500 varieties of plants.

While the ocean can be spotted from the Getty Center on a clear day, the Getty Villa, perched above the Pacific Coast Highway at the edge of Malibu, has prime Pacific Ocean views. A replica of a Roman villa built in the 1970s, this oceanside museum now features art from ancient Greece and Rome, dating from 6500 BCE to 400 CE. Four gardens surround the villa, and theres also a 450-seat classical-style outdoor theater, where art-related performances are often held.

For both museums, general-admission tickets are free but do require a timed entry.
