Cleveland Museum Of Natural History Adds Four Board Members
The century-old Cleveland Museum of Natural History has four new members of its board of directors.
The four John Baco, Laura Duda, Mike Esposito and Albert Green, Ph.D. each will serve a four-year term on the board of the museum. The new members bring the museum’s board to 39 people, a spokeswoman wrote in an email.
Sally Sears, the museum’s board chair, said in a statement that the four new board members “bring to their roles a unique set of talents and passions, which will lend themselves well to the museum’s current initiatives.”
Baco is vice president and wealth director of PNC Private Bank, overseeing the client’s team of private bank professionals for the Cleveland market.
Duda is senior vice president and chief communications officer of Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.
Esposito, who is the auto product development leader at Progressive Insurance, has worked at the company for more than 20 years.
Green is the founder and managing principal of the AMG Consulting Group, which focuses on technology commercialization, new-product development, go-to-market strategies and executive mentoring. Prior to founding his consulting practice, Green was CEO of Kent Displays and led the formation of the Boogie Board e-writer.
They join the museum as it’s implementing a strategic plan, called Where Science & Imagination Meet, that has four areas of focus: audience engagement, scientific leadership, lifelong learning and organizational excellence.

The Cleveland Museum of Natural History is a natural history museum located approximately five miles east of downtown Cleveland, Ohio in University Circle, a 550-acre concentration of educational, cultural and medical institutions. The museum was established in 1920 by Cyrus S. Eaton to perform research, education and development of collections in the fields of anthropology, archaeology, astronomy, botany, geology, paleontology, wildlife biology, and zoology. The museum traces its roots to the Ark, formed in 1836 on Cleveland’s Public Square by William Case, the Academy of Natural Science formed by William Case and Jared Potter Kirtland, and the Kirtland Society of Natural History, founded in 1869 and reinvigorated in 1922 by the trustees of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History.
Donald Johanson was the curator of the museum when he discovered “Lucy,” the skeletal remains of the ancient hominidAustralopithecus afarensis. The current Curator and Head of the Physical Anthropology Department is Yohannes Haile-Selassie.
In 2002, the new Fannye Shafran Planetarium was built near the entrance to the museum, containing displays on the planets in the Solar System, and historical instruments of exploration, such as compasses and astrolabes.
Great Lakes Science Center
The Great Lakes Science Center sits along the harborfront in downtown Cleveland. Exhibits include over 250,000 square feet of hands-on learning experiences plus an adjacent Omni-Max theater. Members get free admission to the GLSC, free passes to the Omni-Max theater, a discount at the museum store, and reciprocal admission to over 200 other science museums across the US.

Cleveland Museum Of Natural History Announces Free Sunday Admission For Cleveland And East Cleveland
The Cleveland Museum of Natural History announced Thursday admission will be free for residents of Cleveland and East Cleveland on Sundays, beginning Jan. 23.
A $3 million grant from the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Foundation will support that program for three years as well as a new community space, according to a news release.
It is imperative that learners of all ages and backgrounds have access to scientific information to help them make informed decisions both about their own lives and as part of the community. Together, the weekly Mandel Community Days and Mandel Community Space help us advance these goals which are central to everything we do,” said CMNH CEO Sonia Winner in the news release.
CMNH also offers $1 admission for participants in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program .
The Mandel Community Space will be a resource center in the museum’s new education wing, which are both part of the museum’s $150 million transformation in progress.
CMNH is still open while construction is underway on new and refreshed spaces. The museum plans to reveal changes in phases over the next few years, beginning later this year.
Amidst the transformation, the century-old institution also has been celebrating its past with an exhibit, 100 Years of Discovery, which runs through July 24, 2022.
Sundays Will Go Free At Cleveland Museum Of Natural History For Cleveland East Cleveland Residents Thanks To Mandel Foundation
The Cleveland Museum of Natural History looks at its impact over the past century in its new exhibit “100 Years of Discovery.”
CLEVELAND, Ohio Every Sunday for three years starting Sunday, Jan. 23, residents of Cleveland and East Cleveland will be able to visit the Cleveland Museum of Natural History for free, thanks to a $3 million grant from the Cleveland-based Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Foundation.
The gift will enable the museum to waive adult general admission of $17 and youth admission of $14 for children aged 3 to 18 for residents of the two cities.
The gift will also fund a new community space named for the Mandel brothers that will host community-oriented programming.
Sonia Winner, the museums president and CEO, said the gift is part of the $108 million raised so far to fund a $150 million expansion and renovation, scheduled for completion in 2024.
The Mandel Community Space will be part of the Education Wing, a major component of the expansion.
The $3 million gift is the largest provided to the museum from the Mandel Foundation, established in 1953.
The foundation is named for the late Mandel brothers, Jack, Joseph and Morton. They established the charitable organization after launching a highly successful Cleveland-based auto-parts business in 1946.
The business grew into Premier Industrial Corp., which through a merger later became Premier Farnell PLC.
