How To Get There

Located on the eastern side of Highway 99 , the Britannia Mine Museum is roughly 30 miles north of Vancouver and 7.5 miles south of Squamish, with ample parking available on-site. Public transit options are limited, but some tours of the scenic Sea-to-Sky Highway stop at the Britannia Mine Museum on the way from Vancouver to Whistler or Pemberton.

In The Footsteps Of The 100 From Vancouver To Whistler

The 100quickly became one of our favorite shows with its twisting story lines and fierce female characters, so upon returning to Vancouver we were determined to find some locations to visit. We already had an overnight in Whistler planned and turns out, on the way up there there are several The 100 locations within easy reach that also offer lots of fun exploring and activities.

The drive alone is well worth your time. The Sea-to-Sky Highway offers 75 miles of breathtaking views as it snakes from Vancouver to Whistler, nestled between the Pacific Ocean on the one side and steep mountains on the other.

Weve also included a few stops along the way that, while not directly related to The 100, are definitely worth checking out if you have the time. All the stops are listed here in order from South to North, but to fully experience all that this amazing route has to offer, youll be best off dividing them, some on the way up to Whistler, the rest on the way back.

Britannia Mine Museum is a National Historic Site and internationally recognized tourist and educational destination, located on the Sea to Sky Highway, between Vancouver and Whistler. It provides an insight into the 112-year history of the Britannia Beach community, and encourages mining awareness through experiential educational programs, exhibits and entertaining events. You will not only enjoy the exhibits and engaging favourites like the underground mine train, the historic 20-storey concentrator mill and gold panning, but can also learn about Britannias history as one of the most productive copper mines in the British Commonwealth in the 1930s.

The underground mine and train ride take you deep inside a mining tunnel, where you can experience what it was like to mine back in 1914. Youll learn about the drills and machines the miners used and gain an understanding of the mineralization process, and rich colours produced as minerals are exposed to water and air. The historic mill building is one of the last remaining gravity-fed concentrator mills in North America. The 20-storey building has been the symbol of Britannia over the years, perched upon a cliff overlooking Howe Sound, and was restored in 2007. The Beaty-Lundin Visitor Centre houses several theatrical mining displays, a gift shop and mineral gallery.

Whistler And Superfly Ziplines

Upon first arriving in Whistler, we were stunned by the beautiful fall foliage and the quaintness of the main village. We checked into our hotel, the Summit Lodge Boutique Hotel, which is conveniently located in the heart of Whistler. Its a great base of operations for any activities you have in the area, and if like us, you just wanna relax and chill after a long day, theyve got you covered too. The rooms are equipped with a kitchenette so you can prepare your own meals and the outdoor pool and hot tub were perfect for soaking our tired feet.

The 100 In Downtown Vancouver

We begin our journey in the heart of Vancouver. Though The 100 is most often filmed in more rugged surroundings, in season 3 the City of Light needed an urban setting. Most of the action takes place inOceanic Plaza, a central square which has been used in several other productions as well.

Things To Know Before You Go

The Britannia Mine Museum is great for families with kids the mine train and gold panning exhibits are especially popular with children.
If youre joining a tour of the museum, arrive 20 minutes early.
Temperatures in the mining tunnel can be chilly bring an extra layereven when the weather is warm.
Some exhibits are outdoors, but there are enough inside activities to make this a good rainy-day destination.
The visitor center, exhibit hall, gold-panning pavilion, and store are all wheelchair accessible, but the underground areas and historic buildings are not.

Your Questions And Feedback Are Important And We Would Like To Hear From You

The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District is holding its October 25, 2017 monthly Board meeting in Britannia Beach at the Britannia Mine Museum. As part of this Board meeting, a Town Hall meeting will be held, and the SLRD Board invites local residents to the Board and Town Hall meetings.

The Town Hall meetings will be held in the Assay Building from 2:30 PM until 4:00 PM and in the Theatre from 7:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 .

Town Hall participants must go into the admissions area and will have access through the gift shop . There will be no charge to attend the Town Hall or SLRD Board meetings.

If anyone is interested in arriving early in order to take the underground tour and site exhibits, the Britannia Mine Museum is offering a special rate of $26.50 – please ask for the SLRD rate.

If underground train rides, big mining machinery and panning for gold doesnt keep for your kids entertained, theres always the playground. Set your kids loose at the sandpit, or watch them drive the wooden boat. While the mine is great for young kids, it is also a blast for kids of all ages. The interactive museum exhibits, gold panning and underground tour are great adventures for all ages.

Now this place is a bit tricky. We wont even give you the exact location because technically we werent even supposed to go there First, our map app told us to go to the wrong place. When we figured out the right place thanks to Google Maps it was still quite a long walk from where we could park the car. When we finally found the right spot that looked familiar from the show, we also spotted some NO TRESSPASSING signs all around and panicked. But given the two separate drives to even find the place, not to mention the miles of walking wed done, first looking in the wrong place and then to get here, we just couldnt leave without a couple of sceneframes! After we snapped our photos we quickly and quietly made our way back to the car, certain that we could be seen by some hidden security cameras and that the police would soon be after us.

Luckily we managed to escape without an encounter with law enforcement but out of respect for the owners, there are two things wed like to say: 1) We sincerely apologize for trespassing on your private beach. It was lovely though, and we hope we didnt disturb you. 2) We strongly discourage anyone from following in our footsteps. Instead, enjoy these sceneframes that we took and go explore all the rest of the amazing places the Sea-to-Sky Highway has to offer!
