Adam Eve And The Dinosaurs

Evangelical Christians make up approximately 25% of the U.S. population. A majority of them think the Bible should be read literally and that evolution is false.

The Creation Museum, about which we wrote a book in 2016, promotes a very specific version of this belief, which holds that God made the universe in six 24-hour days about 6,000 years ago.

The first four chapters of the book of Genesis tell the story of Adam and Eve, who were created on the sixth day and given two jobs: to obey God and populate the Earth. When they disobeyed God and ate fruit from the tree of knowledge, they were banished from the Garden of Eden and became mortal.

Adam and Eve did better on their second assignment, though. Eve gave birth to two sons, Cain and Abel, and, according to the Creation Museum, to a daughter who later became Cains wife.

According to Genesis, humans eventually became wicked and violent. In response, God sent a global flood that drowned everyone on the planet the Creation Museum says the dead numbered in the billions.

Only righteous Noah and his family were saved. They, along with some animals including, according to the Creation Museum, dinosaurs were safely housed in the ark that God commanded Noah to build.

Since opening in 2007, the Creation Museum has told this story with an abundance of dinosaur displays and life-size dioramas of the idyllic Garden of Eden to more than 4 million visitors.

See How Answers In Genesis Finances Its Creation Museum And Publishing Operation

Creation Museum

PETERSBURG, Ky. — How does Answers in Genesis, the Petersburg, Kentucky-based apologist for a literal reading of the Bibles creation story, finance its operations?

To put it simply, through a combination of admission charges, book sales and donations.

WCPO.com exclusively obtained a copy of Answers most recent Form 990, an informational return that nonprofits file with the IRS in lieu of an income tax return. Answers filed it in May.

Answers hasnt finished tabulating its financial results for the fiscal year that ended this past June, chief financial officer James Hatton said. But he added that he didnt think the numbers would be significantly different from those on the Form 990 filed in May.

It shows that for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2015, or Fiscal 2015, the ministry received $7.6 million in contributions or grants, which amounted to about one-third of its total revenue of $21 million.

A quarter of total revenue, or $5 million, came from admissions to the Creation Museum itself, which charges $30 for adults. Answers reported museum attendance of 287,000 for Fiscal 2015, a slight increase over the 281,000 reported the previous year.

The museum, the sales of resources, the monthly magazine Answers and its website are the nonprofits primary tax-exempt activities.

Bill Nyeken Ham Debate

In February 2014, Ham debated American and on the topic of whether young Earth creationism is a viable model of origins in the contemporary scientific era. Critics expressed concern that the debate lent the appearance of scientific legitimacy to creationism while also stimulating Ham’s fundraising. Nye said the debate was “an opportunity to expose the well-intending Ken Ham and the support he receives from his followers as being bad for Kentucky, bad for science education, bad for the U.S., and thereby bad for humankind.”

Ham said that publicity generated by the debate helped stimulate construction of the theme park, which had been stalled for lack of funds. The Ark Encounter opened on 7 July 2016, a date chosen to correspond with Genesis 7:7, the Bible verse that describes Noah entering the ark. The following day, Nye visited Ark Encounter, and he and Ham had an informal debate.

David Menton Speaker Writer And Researcher For Answers In Genesis Died Wednesday At Age 83

David Menton, a key player in Answers in Genesis for 20 years, passed away Wednesday at age 83 after a brief illness.

Several videos featuring Dr. Menton have been recorded and will preserve his legacy of research.

Dr. Menton served full-time with Answers in Genesis for 20 years as a speaker , writer, and researcher. A few months ago, he semi-retired from AiG but remained on call to speak and write on occasion.

Dr. David Menton

Last year, a pro-life exhibit at the Creation Museum Fearfully and Wonderfully Made, which he directed, opened. It was largely based on his talk on life before birth. An expanded version of this exhibit will open at the Creation Museum next fall.

A museum exhibit on the so-called apemen was based on decades of his research on the fossil record. Other exhibits benefited from his scientific research, including one on homology and how this field of science is carelessly used by evolutionists to proclaim their worldview.

Dr. Menton earned his PhD in biology from Brown University, one of the prestigious Ivy League schools. He served as an award-winning professor at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis . He was elected Professor of the Year in 1998 by the Washington University School of Medicine Class . Dr. Menton retired from the school as an Associate Professor Emeritus. During his professional life, he was a consulting editor in histology for Stedmans Medical Dictionary, a standard medical reference work.

Legal Action By Creation Ministries Int’l

Addressing False AiG Claims

On May 31, 2007, Creation Ministries International filed a lawsuit in Supreme Court of Queensland against Ken Ham and Answers in Genesis seeking damages and accusing him of “unbiblical/unethical/unlawful behaviour” in his dealings with the Australian organization. Before the split, the Australian group had been producing periodicals, Creation magazine and Journal of Creation, which were then distributed in other countries by local groups. The Australian group had no access to the list of subscribers in the US. AiG discontinued the distribution arrangement, and produced a new magazine of their own, called Answers, and represented that to subscribers as a replacement. Creation Ministries International claimed $252,000 in damages for lost revenue by misleading and deceptive conduct in relating to lost subscriptions.

An editorial analysis of the situation, including reference to estranged co-founder John Mackay’s allegations in 1986 of necrophilia and witchcraft against Ken Ham’s personal secretary is offered in an account in the Reports of the National Center for Science Education. In February 2009, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit ordered Australian-based Creation Ministries International into arbitration with Answers in Genesis over copyrights and control of affiliates in other countries. In April 2009, the ministries reached a settlement and ended their dispute.

In your article, you ask if the Creation Museum is fun. Our answer is – NO! We attended with a friend who has a daughter that was about 7 at the time. My friend was genuinely annoyed that there was nothing for her daughter to experience or do at the museum. She was expecting something like Cincinnati’s excellent Children’s Museum, but there were no interactive displays or any other displays oriented for children. She complained to the staff that the museum had some nerve charging younger children admission but offering them nothing interesting or interactive!

Biggest Creation Museum Opens

The new Answers In Genesis Creation Museum is the biggest of its breed, and the most lavish in the world. Its cost — $27 million — dwarfs all earlier, comparatively modest attempts to refute evolution via a tourist attraction.

Construction Has Already Begun

Updates are coming to the Creation Museum! As Ive previously announced, were upgrading and expanding at both the Creation Museum and the Ark Encounter to better accommodate the many thousands of guests who visit every single day, as well as to provide even more teaching on Gods Word and the gospel. And Im excited that construction has already begun on some of these upgrades!

You may have noticed there was no Answers News last Wednesday or today . Thats because Answers News is temporarily moving to the lower level of the Answers Center, down at the Ark Encounter. Legacy Hall, where Answers News is normally hosted at the Creation Museum, is now under construction.

Were updating to better present Gods Word, and we are planning to put in additional seats so more people can hear our important teaching sessions.

You see, one problem were addressing at the museum is the older technology that is becoming hard to repair in Legacy Hall, our 900-seat auditorium at the museum. Were updating to better present Gods Word, and we are planning to put in additional seats so more people can hear our important teaching sessions. Thanks to generous donors just like you, we have already raised around half of our $17 million end-of-year goal, enabling us to begin work on various needed projects at both sites. Praise the Lord!

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,Ken

The Creation Museum The Ark Encounter And Americas Problem Of Anti

Answers in Genesis is known first and foremost for trying to give widespread appeal to its pseudo-scientific doctrine. The purpose of the Creation Museum, according to its website, is to show why Gods infallible Word, rather than mans faulty assumptions, is the place to begin if we want to make sense of our world. It contains many elements of a typical natural history museum, such as fossils of dinosaurs, an insectarium, and a planetarium, along with exhibits on the Garden of Eden and on Noahs Arkits attempt to conflate its religious beliefs with scientific fact. The Museum presents the biblical story of Genesis in a scientific guise, whereby it depicts the Earth as approximately 6,000 years old and rejects the theory of evolution. The museum depicts, for example, a world where dinosaurs coexisted with humans. This narrative has reached a large audience: as of mid-2015, the museum had seen 2.4 million visitors. In 2016, an article in Slate reported that public schools, even from out of state, were sending field trips to the museum, invoking the Freedom from Religion Foundation to challenge the constitutionality of such trips.

Paleontologists Brought To Tears Laughter By Creation Museum

For a group of paleontologists, a tour of the Creation Museum seemed like a great tongue-in-cheek way to cap off a serious conference.

But while there were a few laughs and some clowning for the camera, most left more offended than amused by the frightening way in which evolution — and their life’s work — was attacked.

“It’s sort of a monument to scientific illiteracy, isn’t it?” said Jerry Lipps, professor of geology, paleontology and evolution at University of California, Berkeley.

“Like Sunday school with statues… this is a special brand of religion here. I don’t think even most mainstream Christians would believe in this interpretation of Earth’s history.”

The 27 million dollar, 70,000-square-foot museum which has been dubbed a “creationist Disneyland” has attracted 715,000 visitors since it opened in mid-2007 with a vow to “bring the pages of the Bible to life.”

Its presents a literal interpretation of the Bible and argues that believing otherwise leads to moral relativism and the destruction of social values.

Creationism is a theory not supported by most mainstream Christian churches.

Lisa Park of the University of Akron cried at one point as she walked a hallway full of flashing images of war, famine and natural disasters which the museum blames on belief in evolution.

“I think it’s very bad science and even worse theology — and the theology is far more offensive to me,” said Park, a professor of paleontology who is an elder in the Presbyterian Church.

Answers In Genesis Responds To My Critique Of Their Museum

  • Get link

Answers in Genesis’ Ken Ham and Georgia Purdomhave posted responses here and hereto my blog post critiquing their museum. I encourage everyone to go read their short replies.

Before we respond to this piece from them, lets take a moment to recall all the things Ham and Purdom simply have not attempted to address that my blog brings up:

1)Anachronistic Moses:They were silent about their display with Moses holding the Ten Commandments in a script which wasnt adopted by the Jews until the 5thcentury and dotted with vowel points which were invented in the Middle Ages. A museum should be interested in avoiding anachronisms in their exhibits like this.

2)Leviathan:They have not defended or mentioned their identification of Leviathan as a literal fire breathing marine reptile. This is a claim Ham is famed for. I cant emphasize enough how much Ive seen expressions of this idea articulated in evangelical circles. Leviathan cant be a plesiosaurbecause the Psalms tell us he has multiple heads . Psalm 74 demands Leviathan is a west Semitic chaos deity because it inserts YHWH into the Babylonian account of creation as a literary polemic. Job tells us he breaths fire. Isaiah tells us he was killed in conjunction with the creation of the world but that he will be killed again at the eschaton. That notion is contradictory if Isaiah has a member of the animal kingdom in mind.

At The Evangelical Creation Museum Dinosaurs Lived Alongside Humans And The World Is 6000 Years Old

Summer travel in the United States has slowed but not stopped due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Among those destinations that have recently reopened is, as of June 8, is the Creation Museum, a museum dedicated to promoting the Biblical story of Genesis as historic and scientific fact.

More than this, the Creation Museum offers a window into the ideas and workings of the American religious right.

A Giant Ark Is Just The Start These Creationists Have A Bigger Plan For Recruiting New Believers

Reviewing “In Six Days” and the New 4D Special Effects Theater

WILLIAMSTOWN, Ky. Ken Ham built an ark, a Noah-sized ark, in the verdant, landlocked hills of the American heartland.

At the sight of the wooden vessel, tourists decidedly more than two-by-two, a caravan of buses surrounding the site gasp in wonder. Christian school students storm the ramps, many completing science quizzes based on anti-evolutionary teachings. Admission is $40 for adults, $28 for students, but school groups often pay less.

The founder of Answers in Genesis, an online and publishing ministry with a strict creationist interpretation of the Bible, employed 700 workers to erect the $120 million Ark Encounter, which is five stories high and a football field and a half in length, and packs a powerful whoa punch. He had the massive boat designed by a veteran of amusement park attractions, commissioned an original soundtrack to enhance the experience, and stocked the interior with an animatronic talking Noah, along with lifelike models of Earths manifold creatures. Including dinosaurs.

And he saw that it was good.

The ark opened last summer and is on target, Ham says, to attract more than a million visitors in the first year.

But Ham did not rest.

The 65-year-old Australian and his partners, Mike Zovath and Mark Looy, have launched an ambitious 10-to-12-year plan to re-create a walled city from the time of Noah and a 1st-century village from the time of Jesus.

Why not, indeed?

He acknowledges that his views arent commonly shared.
